It's football, with the greatest respect surely success is finishing as high as you can otherwise what's the point in going. Success this season will be promotion, not anything else. I go to watch my team hopefully win and nothing else. I think comparing Pozzo to the Newcastle ownership is a little bit far fetched

You're not allowed to praise the ownership for the success we've enjoyed on the pitch, got it.

Can we safely assume that no criticism will be thrown Gino's way if we finish 20th this season, as long as we cut ties with Mogi, keep Edwards, and Gino does a weekly podcast updating fans on every detail of the club?

They wouldn’t have been that bad had he not sold them and then pocketed the money himself of course.

I’d settle for 19th and bi-weekly. Anything less is dismal failure.

So finishing as high in the table as possible is more important than anything else to you? You don’t care how it’s achieved or what’s sacrificed, that’s the be all and end all to you?

Can I ask why you support Watford instead of someone like Man City?

This is where he is really struggling imo. 6 years of TV revenue, plus an unhealthy stack of debt and look at the playing assets. Sarr/Dennis we will presumably be able to sell for £30m to £40m even if we are struggling at the moment. Cucho was £10m seems fair enough. But let's say we fail to go up. Then the final round of assets is JP, Louza, Kamara. The new keeper and Sierralta at a push? £40m total maybe? After that? Just dross. There is no depth - everyone else is an asset with no value. Cathcart, Kabasele, Cleverley, Gosling, Fletcher, Kayembe, WTE, Kalu, Kiko, Masina, Peneranda. Just a horrible, horrible collection of worthless players on contracts nobody else would pay. How can you arrive at that after so may years of high income and debt usage on top of that? It's criminal.

Football fans want to win games and have success more than anything particularly with the big clubs .

Football doesn’t have a lot of morals unfortunately and certainly money and glory comes first .

It’s why Newcastle fans don’t care who their new owners are if they win things .

Yes, but presumably not all football fans as wouldn’t we all just support Man City if that was the most important thing?

Surely nobody who supports Watford is in it for the glory, so you’d imagine how the club is run would be relatively important too?

What difference does it make who somebody supports, they all want their team to do well. I support Watford and don't really get the Man City question. Yes, finishing as high as possible is the most important thing. It's called a competition for a reason. I'm aware we have a ceiling of where we can go. Do I care how it's achieved? Not massively no, I would not like the owners of Newcastle and it would be nice to see some of our youth players make the step up. What are you suggesting I sacrifice to get this success?
So I've said I class success this season as promotion. What would you class as success this year?

If you went to Bright the day we got promoted or wherever you were at that moment, did you celebrate? My best moments supporting Watford are achievements on the pitch. We've never has open top bus parade because we broke even or Sean Murray made his first team debut

Wow, I really think you’d have a better time supporting someone like City.

So if we sack Edwards after 10 games, end up with three different managers, but get promoted you really wouldn’t care? Promotion is the be all and end all for you, even though you support Watford?

Success to me this season would be seeing my club gain back a bit of identity and soul, I’d happily finish mid table and not get promoted of it meant we gave a promising young manager a chance to implement a playing style and philosophy on the club.

If we get decent signings and everyone kicks on - playoffs / promotion
If we still have what we have - survival. I honestly feel with the morale at the club right now and the general outlook it is going to be a season of struggle otherwise. Not suggesting we will get relegated, but we are certainly going to find it much harder than other established clubs like Middlesbrough and Norwich - who have a much more settled and together squad. It feels too much like the Ivic season right now. A lot of "what's going on" and "who is going?" situation.

So basically success is based on league position

I don't get this City thing. You think I should support another team because I class success as where we finish in the league. I hope they do give Edwards a chance as chopping and changing hasn't really worked over the last 3 years. I'll give you this season, it would be nice to have some stability but then what? Season after this what would you want? Would you want promotion or would you be happier meandering around mid table like we did in the 90's.

Completely agree with your last paragraph, but are you saying you wouldn't celebrate if we got promoted in that manner? Assuming you didn't celebrate in 2015?

Knight is completely right that supporting a football club is, at the end of the day, about memories and moments, and the last 10 years have provided plenty.

I was thinking more of the off-field assets, including the value of the club itself.

Personally I would say the training ground and stadium improvements are immaterial compared to the external debt and associated offsetting playing assets (I know they revalued the stadium/land and doubled it in value just to stop the balance sheet looking ridiculously negative, but that was more an out of date valuation rather than Pozzo improvement).

Not sure what you mean by "value of the club itself". We still have the same location, fanbase, catchment area so I don't think are worth more in that sense than when Pozzo took over.

How much did Pozzo buy the club for? Do you think anyone would be able to buy it for that much now?

Wasn't it around 125M? I'm not sure what it's worth now. Possibly a bit more with the stadium upgrades - but the debt will be added to that of course.

The debt is a problem (as it was for Bassini). I mean, our balance sheet is terrible assets v liabilities, and the playing stock is poor quality.

Potential turnover is if we get promoted. Why would that be any different to any other club because of Pozzo? Personally I think our brand is awful now - horrible seedy little club with questionable business practices and associations. However, I can see that 6 years prem exposure to global audience can wipe that out and be a positive so yeah guess it's gone up.

I've got no idea. The Watford Observer say it was around £500k. Not sure how accurate that is, but if true I'd imagine it's worth a lot more now.

It is if in premier league. There was a bid that valued the club at effectively £350m. Being in championship (+ debt and lack of sellable playing assets) makes a huge difference to that of course. If we don't got up the next 2 years, parachute money runs out and remaining assets are sold while debt remains, I don't see why we wouldn't be a similar proposition to before. i.e. a new owner would clear the debts rather than pay Pozzo much for it?

Arguably while we have the parachute payments and theoretically a better side than we had under Dyche who excelled in keeping us away from the trapdoor. However as Jumbo says if we are still in the champ when the parachute payments stop, we are almost back where we started.

    The Pozzos can’t win.

On the one hand, they are criticised for unravelling all of their good work through strange, dodgy deals, their staff and close business contacts getting in trouble with the law and signing useless players who are no where near good enough from a single agent.

On the other, they offer a weird emotionless letter that doesn’t really attempt to connect to the fans, tell them anything they don’t know or make it sound like they are at all in their rights to be annoyed at the circus the club has become.

Really stuck between a rock and a hard place.
