You are just lapping your whatever duxbury tells you. The point is a simple one. On field success is not everything. Surely even you can agree on this. Which is why I am asking to see where we are in 3 years with our largely valueless squad, contract commitments and large external debt. With regard to Pompey If you think that on field success trumps any financial peril then I don’t know what to say. Not much point in us continuing to discuss. I’m not getting into a 50 post back and forth like you had with Nath this week.
No not really - but clearly you dont either. Everybody on here assumes a lot (in both directions) and then takes supposition as fact (in both directions) i have no problem with that (in either direction) but i do have a problem with tone (in both directions) always happy to have a debate, just without the name calling
Am I? How so? I'm making up my mind based on what I've seen both on and off the pitch. On field success is not everything, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the past decade even if it means we've got £50m/£whatever debt. I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed it. I didn't say it trumps everything, I asked if you think Pompey fans would trade their success? Do you?
Sorry I’m not engaging. I read the ridiculous back and forth you had with Nath and not up for the tedium. My point was simple. If we are in a good spot in 3 years (assuming no promotion) them I am wrong. Leave it at that. Have the last word then claim whatever victory you wish.
You already said that. Are you in a bad mood? You're usually good for a decent debate, and I didn't think this was anything other than that? No name calling or silliness? Apologies if it came across in any way other than that!
My god you really are dull, do you have to infect every single thread with this? If you want to keep banging on about the finances do it on the finances thread, this is tranfers and relates to Keane Lewis Potter. Just give it rest, or, as you once suggested to another reasonable poster, 'go tell you mates down the pub'.
Well that’s made me feel better. A) threads move on from initial topic B) we’ve (maybe) made a lowball bid for this chap so I wouldn’t keep your hopes up we are signing him. C) our finances “infect” everything we try to achieve so is pretty much relevant in everything except the new kit threads.
You fact checked that we make pointless bids for players we have no real intention of buying ? In 30 mins ? ffs
Fact checked that West Ham bought every player via one agent. One year sample admittedly but vast amount of fees last year not with that guy. I must be going mad or it seems like people can no longer follow flows of threads anymore.
I understand your feelings but: A) they do and it used to be into things like cheese, classic/little known band tracks, helpful gardening hints etc... now it is debt and Mogi Bayat every time, usually by you. B) that is part of negotiation, if we value a player lower than the other club it may p!ss them off but you start low and work from there or just simply have your own limit. C) agreed they do, however, there is little we can do to influence that and constantly banging on about it without current detailed information doesn't add value. Those discussions should be had in the finance thread, not every thread. Ditto Mogi Bayat. I used to quite enjoy your posts but you seem to have had the blinkers on subject wise and have resorted to unnecessary swipes at people who don't deserve it for a while and it takes away from some of the genuine things you do say. Happy enough if you think I'm **** but this should be an enjoyable place for people with a mutual interest to come together and chat **** in good faith and it hasn't been recently.
The last time Jumbolina was good for a decent debate was about 2-3 years ago. He used to be a decent poster, but has seemingly been in a "bad mood" constantly ever since.
Yeah but that's irrelevant to whether or not they behave like absolutely manipulative babies, using GT, Luther and others to paper over an abysmal PR operation for the past 4 years. Success on the pitch doesn't mask the fact that IMO they are completely capable of seeding stories to placate the loyal podcaster minions to try and quell discontent from the wider fanbase.
The cheese threads were a deliberate attempt to quell the moaners and trolls that kept peppering posts in a deliberate attempt to start arguments. Quite enjoyed them if I'm honest. I wish someone would Brie ing them back
Don't pay adequate tribute to Luther and they're bastards, pay tribute to Luther and they're bastards. Can't win! I'm sure they're capable, just not sure why they'd be arsed. If Watford fans were of a mind to protest, I'm not sure an Athletic article about us maybe making a bid for a player 5% of the fanbase has heard of would do anything to stop that
Moyes has lessened Salthouse’s influence as I understand but agents influences on clubs and transfers goes beyond just the players they sign…
The debt is £139m as of the last figures, with a large portion of that external. To be quite honest, I have no idea how much trouble that puts us in long-term, whether it means we'll do a Portsmouth or just go back to being a mediocre Championship club again, but I don't think it's a fair comparison when Portsmouth actually won a trophy and got into Europe
I think their behaviour towards Luther is dastardly frankly. They treated him like **** and then tried to ambush him with a PR release that they hadn't told him about at all. It's not quite the "they can't win" situation you portray. They could win by not treating him with contempt and referencing GT's values whenever they need to cover over something that is the complete antithesis of it. I'm not saying I want Luther to run our club, but if you've spent 2 minutes in the man's company, he's fundamentally decent and Watford to the core. The fact that he doesn't see eye to eye with Dux and co tells us a lot. I think you have a reasonable perspective on the whole, but I think there's something disgusting with the way our club behaves. For some people that's ok because it has left us with some level of on pitch success, but for me and others it's empty, because I can't support a club which has no values or connection with me as a fan. As Jumbo already said, trying to assign logic to our club seems redundant. Why would a club that got relegated twice for want of a premier league defence continue to spend money on non playing wingers and not good enough midfielders instead of learning and buying a solid defence to give us a base? Who knows what thinking goes on. We can't know because our owner never speaks, our DoF only speaks to the Italian media and our CEO cannot be trusted.
Has Luther even accepted the role and was he even consulted about before they announced the offer and pushed Luther into a corner. Luckily I've spoken to Luther on so many occasions, from a very young 7 or 8 year old to well into my 40's and he always stopped chatted and treated us with respect. He and Bobby Downes even stopped the car and had a kick about with us kids in the late 70's. They memory will never ever leave me.
Genuine question because I feel like I'm missing something here - how have the club treated Luther with contempt? There was the Andre Gray interview quote which clearly irritated him, but have there been other things? At the Vic I sit not a million miles away from Luther and every game he always looks delighted to be there, enjoying himself.
If he's not the love child of CS Lewis and Beatrix Potter I'll be sorely disappointed. What a story that would be.
