    Oh fair enough .

Thought you meant the players themselves.

TBH think it’s more doubt towards board and Mr Pozzos rather than Edwards .

I mean we have been these fancy videos before then a few months later it’s the corner flag .

How many of us could say with certainty that we rated or respected our boss after less than a week?

Respect and trust are built. They don’t appear at once. It will take time to purge the club of the negativity and bad vibes of last season. It will take time for the players, and indeed all of us, to see whether the club are genuine that Edwards and his coaches are here to stay, or if they will just be the next names to exit the revolving door at the first sign of trouble.

I get that we are all anxious. We don’t have real football matches to review or vent our spleen over. All we have is the daily drip feed of transfer rumours, plus as befits a selling club just relegated, an incessant stream of players departing us, some more controversially than others. All we can do for now is debate why exiting players didn’t go for an extra million or two, and pore over the club’s training video, minutely looking for any perceived signs of unrest, of boredom, psychoanalysing Edwards words and the players’ reactions to them. I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t doing the same. But...

    It’s day four of pre-season.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. (It was mostly built at night).

If Edwards is indeed out of his depth, then he will be found out in good time. And if, hopefully, he isn’t then in time he will command the total respect and approval of the squad, and we will have much to look forward to ourselves.

Only by staying patient will we truly know.

    It’s not easy though eh!

I seem to remember, back in the day, everyone use to complain when we played Pat Rice who was old, slow and past his best. But we always used to win when he played. I’m not a big fan of Cleverly, but Edward’s wants someone with leadership/organisation skills and is a role model. That said he will need a vice captain as there is no way Cleverly has the legs to last 46 games

Haha! Yes, we could never understand why he didn't get roasted by umpteen wingers but it didn't happen, maybe occasionally someone would get past him but he'd take it in and it wouldn't happen again.

Good points. My personal vote for Vice Captain be Ngakia. Yes he isn't known for his leadership (as far as I am aware), but he's a solid player and the Champ is his level. It's a real shame we never kept hold of Hughes looking back, he was always
captain material. Since Deeney's departure, we haven't really had a leader on the pitch - especially last season. Sissoko was alright, but he was never vocal apart from pleas to the fans' to "get behind the team"... then that said team got wrecked.

    Ngakia???
You are joking. He treats the ball like a hot potato, loses his man with ease. He looks frightened when he is on the pitch.
Any extra responsibility will have him in a meltdown.
Cleverley should not be captain. His legs have gone. He will be a passenger in a league where you cannot hide. Then again, we have Cathcart and WTE. They both like to hide,so maybe Cleverley can get away with it.
He should have been released, but who would sign him?

Not our problem if we hadn’t extended his contract for no good reason. He’d be a free agent now scrabbling round for a club of the back of last season’s dreadful performances.

Thought he came across ok in the video.

I liked his interview in the Observer.

He came across very well on the Sky Sports interview today.

Getting a good feeling about him, and glad we are giving him more of a managers role (on face value). Seems like we could actually build something.

Success could all come down to which strikers they bring in for him though.

As long as one of them is not Issac Success, then yes, I fully agree. ;)

Let's be honest, none of these players are his players! He pretty much said that to them in the meeting.....

IF given time (huge if) to build in his image then I think there's reason to be excited.

Sadly I just think it's a fairly poor group of personalities at his disposal. None of them are 'winners' or 'characters'. I'm sure there's ability there, but you need leaders in the team, we have zero!!

We need 2 or 3 Championship hardened leaders in quickly!

In defence of the players, I guess it's same sh*t different day, seen it all before, heard it all before!

Yeah, we don’t have a Eustace, Deeney (in his prime) or Watson type character to lead the dressing room and make sure things are right among the players.

Cleverley has been a decent servant, as has Cathcart, but I just can’t see either of those guys being the type of character to demand respect and ensure people fall in line.

Certainly not Cathcart - nice guy I suspect and a solid career at times but hardly heard him speak in his whole time here!

Agree with all the comments above, which outline how important it is we give Edwards time, and I mean at least 18 months, to fix things. Even if that means a mid table finish this year.

This squad needs a complete overhaul, and we won't be able to adequately achieve that in one transfer window.

I’m fine with that but I don’t trust the idiots to actually release Cleverley, Cathcart and Gosling next summer so we will be back to square 1. Their absurd policy over contracts to ageing obsolete players always compromises any attempt of a rebuild,

Hopefully this shift in tone with Edwards seemingly having more power at the club isn't just fan appeasement. We shall see

Again saying all the right things.

“I think any football fan that takes the time and pays their money to come and watch you play football wants to see a totally committed team. They want to see players who are giving absolutely everything. As the head coach, I also want to see that,” he said.

“I want to attack teams. I want to score goals,” he said. “Clearly you’ve got to stop them at the other end, but with an organised and committed team you can do both of those.

“I expect our players to show heart and compassion, and commitment, and I believe fans like to see that too. I want players who are prepared to take risks, and a team that reacts the right way when things go wrong or we make mistakes.”

“I believe Watford fans want to see a team that attacks, is organised, that plays with bravery and above all else is committed to Watford Football Club. That is definitely the message that will be coming across from me and my team of coaches. We will be driving that home every day in training.”

Edwards is getting me way to hyped up for the season ahead. I seriously hope the board keep their word and back him through thick and thin. We need this culture to be embedded throughout the club and that takes time.

Edwards has told the BBC we don’t need to do a ton of business. I know many will be disappointed by this but given the Piroe and Lewis-Potter links perhaps we’re going to be trying for 2 or 3 expensive top quality signings and then leaning on the returning loanees rather than signings 7/8. It’s an interesting strategy. Of course it could just be Edwards being coy.

Personally think we’ll need at least 3 after Bayo. Another striker, a partner in midfield for Louza and a half decent CB. After that you start to get into the wants rather than needs (Another striker; HG Gk to challenge Okoye after Bachmann leaves; an extra wingback who can preferably cover both sides; another half decent CB). But if we go all out to secure quality future PL level players for those first 3 slots then maybe that obviates the need for decent backups somewhat.

It could just be Edwards not wanting to say openly 'we desperately need a raft of new signings to replace the dross we've got left.'

He has been told we have an “excellent squad” so probably thinks what we have is almost enough .

Edwards will probably soon find out the reality !

A slow start and he will be the one as manager who will be blamed .

    I agree.
He must surely know that the squad is pure pants. Half of them should go and most of the rest are not good enough.
We need new signings and fast.
Let's hope Edwards is playing a good game with the media and not letting Duxbury & Co fill his head with their inflated views of the playing staff.
