3.5m profit for Mogi though so does it really matter?

Is Steve Beleck still around? Paired with Vakoun Bayo they will destroy this league.

You never can tell, can you? He could be as talented as Dennis was at the beginning of last season, but most probably he's just a waste of a space. Get him and loan him straight away, tidy business, money laundering etc etc

Genuine question here — would people be happy if we signed a player from League One that had 48 goals and 18 assists in 119 games at the age of 25?

  10. NathWFC

    NathWFC First Team

I counted 27 league goals, so the other 21 this bloke's got must be in Micky Mouse cups.

I don't think there's any way of spinning 27 career league goals at the age of 25 as being in any way impressive, especially the level he's played at. The highest level he's scored at is the Belgian league, in which he has a whole 7 goals to his name.

But to answer your actual question, I'd probably have more faith in that working out, yes. Particularly as it wouldn't be a Mogi Bayat client and therefore there'd far less likely be an ulterior motive behind the signing.

Depends how they were weighted - if the numbers were increasing each year then yes. We tend to pick the ones that are decreasing, hoping for a rare return to previous form.

Why has he only played 119 games at the age of 25?

He’s got 48.. but Vydra got 11 goals in 50 games before signing for us in the Czech Second Division — Marlon King got 5 goals in 36 before joining us, Danny Graham got 40 in 113 before joining us, Ighalo got.. you know where I’m going with this. Ability and league standard aren’t hand in hand. I’m all for calling out things n all that jazz. But scoring goals in better leagues than some of our best strikers in recent seasons isn’t a stick to hit him with imo. You’re a massive fan of Sierralta right? Couldn’t get a game for love nor money in Serie B — a standard far lower than the leagues Bayo has played in

Far too logical for some on here - much easier to slag them off sight unseen

Watford FC Head of Sports Medicine Dr. Quacko McClueless spoke to the Watford Observer to answer questions about why new superstar signing Vakoun Bayo has only played 119 games so far. In answer to fans claiming that the new striker was far from a star signing but yet another dud from the Mogi Bayat House of terrible deals Quacko stated that Vakoun was suffering from Kaluitis. The affliction is peculiar to players that have signed with Bayat but can be cured with periods of long rest and relaxation.

An outward sign of the affliction is and has been noted by Hornet's fans along with Quacko's medical maestro's as having a physical appearance far in excess of their chronological age. Quacko stated that this should have no real effect on the players performance so long as those strict rules on rest are followed. He expected after a period of settling in that his team could get Vakoun fit for at least five appearances this season.

This sort of thing happens regulary to many young South American players and is a real problem for those nations. Sierralta had clear ability as witnessed at the u20 CONMEBOL tourney.

  17. LouOrns

He didn’t play because the style of play was possession based with a high line — something Sierralta can’t do because he turns like a bus and can’t pass a football very well

Well that's their fault the clubs for not doing their work. He's a defenders defender. Leave him in tandem with a reader/distributor. Nothing wrong with him in that set up as a defender. You witness it at the highest level. Otamendi is a defenders defender having a bit of an Indian summer but hardly the greatest distributor which is why Lisandro Martinez is being considered a partner to Romero for Argentina. Romero does the defending but is the orchestrator from the back.

Ditto for Sierralta at Watford except we have aside from Nkolou in a cameo no defender of any class comfortable on the ball.

All well and good. But the fact is it’s a transfer with two Bayats involved so until he proves otherwise I’m going to assume that wasn’t done with Watford’s best interest at heart. Hope he knocks the lights out though.

Yeah that’s fair enough. The Bayat thing is disgraceful.. but it’s not the players fault. Like you say hope he smashes it

If we pay £4m for this fella, it’s peanuts. If we went for someone who was proven and was consistently scoring 20 goals in the championship, he would be £15m plus. We take bigger risks with our signings, and we look for players that could make the step up. We will need 4 strikers, so it’s pretty obvious we are going to be looking for bargains

I think you’re doing Otamendi a disservice there. Sierralta is a good box and space defender, but one v one he’s poor — you can only play one way with him

Yeah, but there's always a few positive examples - there's always that chance it does click and work out - but I'd bet good money on the fact that for every one of those sort of signings that manages to step up, there's a hell of a lot more that fail miserably, otherwise everyone would be doing it.

Didn't we sign Vydra at 19/20, for a start? Very different having done little of note at that age than someone who is coming up 26. In fact, isn't Bayo older now than every one of those players were when we signed them? Maybe a very similar age to King.

Everyone gets it. You are just too simple to follow the arguments. Limited finances, yet we pay high agent fees, have high operating expenses and offer endless contract extensions to obsolete garbage. That is what people are questioning, especially when the same agent is involved yet again. People aren’t questioning why we don’t buy a player for £15m.

  25. LouOrns

Yeah Vydra was a lot younger, but Bayo at the same age was scoring in leagues Vydra failed to. It could go horribly wrong, or it could be another Dennis and we get lucky. My main two points are league quality and player quality aren’t mutually exclusive and my issue is with Bayat rather than the players he’s bringing to us

I just would have expected him to have played at a higher level by now if he was capable. There are cases where that's proven wrong, but I'd be surprised if this is one of them.

£4.3m for yet another Mogi Bayat client with the record he has, as a team who's just been relegated and under the financial strain we appear to be under, seems bizarre and dodgy. As per.

Not worried about the fee. The video looks good. But a striker who fails to score hatfuls in Scotland….. for Celtic ? Wow is that possible ? Liam Henderson would have scored for Celtic.

Same applies to you . People aren’t anti the player. They are anti two Bayat brothers being involved in the transfer. The club is actually getting worse.

Like I said, hopefully this is a Bayat player who actually benefits us. Should be easier to contribute at champ level so fingers crossed.

We're signing him right off the back of his hottest streak in his career against terrible opposition.

Plus at 25 he should be coming in to his prime as a striker.

If he can keep his hot streak going then could be an Ighalo.

How much have we spent on agent fees and contract extensions to over the hill players this summer?

Let’s wait and see what this player is like, rather than jumping on the same old band wagon, and endlessly moaning. At £4m he looks like a decent player, if he’s not then fair game to criticise. We have done very well under the current owners in our 4 years in the championship. I think this year may be more difficult given the number of changes we are making, but I wouldn’t bet against us being up there again. Frankly I don’t give a flying feck about what agents we use, I’ll judge on how we perform. These are the most successful owners we have ever had, in terms of league positions, so I am prepared to cut them some slack.

Except unlike Kalu, Bayo actually does look his chronological age.

Also, the fact that a player has actually not played that many games so far should be more likely to indicate they aren't above their true age and should have some left in the tank, By contrast players like Rooney who were racking up the games early often get burned out sooner as well.

He scored for them in the League Cup and SFA Cup. He only actually got 207 minutes for them in the league.

They only played one up top mostly and that was Odsonne Edouard. Leigh Griffiths was most often used as the sub.

It's not ideal, but he is/was still at an age where he could have improved.

    Steady on now.

Just ask Pukki, he ended up being alright in the end though, so fingers crossed for Bayo.
