Sad news regarding the death of keyboard player Andrew Fletcher. Of one of my all time favourite bands. RIP.
A special place in the hearts of Watford fans, though we didn’t hear ‘Just can’t get enough’ much this season. I loved the early 12 inch remixes, but they were often better as time went on and the music took on darker, more challenging themes. You don’t hear them much on the radio because of they are not happy radio, but they did loads of good stuff.
I wonder if we will see the long awaited return of Alan Wilder now? Admittedly I had the violator album playing yesterday. Still one of my top 5 albums of all time.
Only just caught this, very sad news - Depeche Mode are not among my favourite 80s artists (they would include The Cure, Sonic Youth and Kate Bush, and I prefer the Stone Roses’ s/t to Violator) but I love Violator and their 86-98 singles compilation - probably more so than New Order, they’ve shown electronic music can have heart and not be just machine-like. Inspired some great listening to do this week. And I know bands have to originate from somewhere, but it’s funny how some of the great ones come from quite unglamorous and you’d think uninspiring locations - The Cure from Crawley, XTC from Swindon, DM from Basildon etc…
Two of my favourites were Reg Presley and the Troggs from Andover and Tanita Tikaram from Basingstoke.
Not very flattering photos here of Simon le Bon - not sure why the Daily Mail felt the need to show them... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowb...-60-sports-TINY-pair-Speedos-emerges-sea.html
