Well the team tonight is rather average and limited but maybe more committed.

There has been plenty to react to, chum. And if Edwards was out of contract it would still have been courteous to have informed FGR, not least to avoid yet more bad publicity.

As I posted elsewhere, it could also be that he wanted and/or the club wanted to give him, a look at some of the fringe players whose futures are unclear, to help decide which he likes the look of and which are deadwood we can get rid of.

We already know who are the players we have that are definitely worth keeping.

That's my hopeful view of it anyway.

Dale Vince is someone who clearly craves publicity and his whole modus operandi is to act "holier than thou"; whatever happens had we taken their manager he'd have found a way to cry foul.

Their chairman is none too pleased as you would expect. The bit about telling him not to let him know he was in discussions sounds just like the MO of Gitto and Fuxbury.

Forest Green chairman Dale Vince currently on Sky Sports News confirming that his manager Rob Edwards has been negotiating to become the new boss at Watford. "He's not our manager anymore. I feel disappointed with him, let down. Watford encouraged him not to tell us. We move on."

Another club the two twits have upset. You would never have this in GT's day. Everything was done in an upfront and correct way.

That's what an ambitious manager will say. Who trusts the lying snake Fuxbury.

One will he back the manager in the transfer market ? Two will he and Dolto Pozzo let him coach as he wants.

If neither is true expect another sacking when we are struggling in mid table or even on the fringes of the playoff spots two to three months into the season. These **** do not learn their lessons. Their overweening arrogance will be their downfall. Hopefully.

I am not sure about Edwards, I think it is a big step up from Forest Green. For me it seems similar to us plucking a manager from abroad who has never been a manager at the level we play at. I doubt it is a new approach and he will be sacked by christmas and we will have an Italian we have never heard of managing us by New year. Cannot see why Forest Green are making a scene though I am sure Robert Edwards contract expires in June? He was never going to stay there anyhow.

    FGR supporter here.
Need to get this out of the way first - namely how this sorry story of his move to Watford has been handled.
Rob was contracted to May 2024 and there was no "talk to other clubs" clause in his contract - confirmed by FGR Chairman in writing earlier today - so many FGR supporters are very unhappy about the way Watford and Rob have conducted themselves; very poor and underhand.

Anyway Rob and Richie inherrited a talented, but very unsettled and fractured squad that had been built by Mark Cooper, that had just missed out on promotion the previous year. The squad was then augmented fairly early on with a few additional signings - majority from scotland to bolster our midfield area (our talent is scouted by our director of football). Rob, through his contacts, appeared to be involved in bringing several players in - only one of which really worked out - Kane Wilson; the rest were at best occasional fringe squad players. The majority of the team was as assembled by Mark Cooper. the previous year.

So what will Rob bring you - his team facing skills undoubtedly brought the squad together - but remember Cooper had got rid of any big egos that had previously existed - not sure how he is going to handle what Watford have left in your dressing room. Rob is a good PR person - talks the talk, especially with the fans, he is personable and outwardly likeable (now blotted his copy book! - but who could blame him by accepting a multi million life changing deal at his age). Hope that Watford have a good stream of talent set up for him to work with - his football is a high pressing style - passing out from the back, quick and incicive football - its good to watch when it works. Not sure what happened the last 1/3 of our season but we just scraped over the line when we should have had it sealed by the end of Feb. We were on relegation form for the last 12 games, with our very small squad and lack of depth (see comments above) now causing a significant drop in performance - Rob and Richie seemingly unable to turn things around, but thankfully we got there (thanks Port Vale!).

With Rob going we at FGR are now becoming resigned to losing three of our better "out of contract" players - Ebou Adams and Kane Wilson (suspect they'll be at Watford shortly); our other wing back Nicky Cadden will probably end up at a bigger name L1 club. Had Rob stayed maybe things would have been different - who knows?

In summary - Rob, and Richie have made their bed - we will watch with interest as to how things progress; the exciting and ever eventful ride at FGR continues!
Really do hope we get Watford in the cup next season!!

If Scott thinks we are going to get automatically promoted, he’s going to have to bring in some big hitters in the summer. Unless….he thinks the current crock of ***** are good enough

Decent video from Watford Analytics on Edwards. Although after watching this I have no doubt that the club will fail to get him the players he wants.

"Ball playing centre back you say? Meet William and Christian. Now get on with it and win us the title."

Excellent post and thank you for the information. It would be good to have a FGR supporter to chat to about his methods etc. I hope you stay with us for now and future endeavors, and welcome to the forum. :)

Don't blame the club Watford as is Boss. Or the fans. Direct your ire towards the two twits we have in charge Fuxbury and Gitto Pozzo. They have besmirched the name of the club. Yours is not the first club they have upset relations with and until they are gone they won't be the last. Your club has just joined a rather long list.

By the way I just wanted to say well done on your promotion. Forest Green Rovers are one of the most forward thinking clubs in the land. Many other sides could learn a lot from them. Ours included. But not while we have these two pillocks around.

He has already intimated that to his bosom buddy Ucko. It'll be done on the cheap again and we'll fall flat on our faces. Ucko is the equivalent of GMB interviewing Blair, Cameron or what ever shyster is running the land. No chance of getting them infront of Paxman instead.

Vegan pies , burgers and sausage rolls - all competitively priced. The food is actually really good - many FGR players are vegan (i'm not - i'm a meat eater!)
Good selection of ales as well.

Thanks for your input - and not coming on and tubthumping etc. refreshing.

Trust us when we say we know how our owner/club go about things a lot of the time - we aren’t proud of it.

What I will say though is - your chairman had options here and his words are a bit contradictory. He was on radio this afternoon and got shifty when asked how long was left on Edwards’ deal - but then knows it’s 2024 a short while later? Plus, for all our owners faults (there are many), I don’t see why we would just invent a clause that we know doesn’t exist?! It would be easily disproved by yourselves if it didn’t….

I don’t think just because your chairman, who is clearly smarting, says there was no clause and his deal ran for 2 more years, that it should necessarily be held up as fact. Why didn’t your official statement say that? Why no mention of you reporting us? Why didn’t you put Edwards on gardening leave? As far as I can tell, FGR had the power to at least stop him joining Watford so quickly - but haven’t used that power. Why?

Your chairman seems to be shooting off and leaving more questions than answers from what I can read/see/hear.

As for the rest, I’m happy with the appointment. But seems silly for us to make any predictions about what will happen really as our squad etc will be dramatically different soon enough so could end up in many different ways.

    Thanks again.

I suppose he is with Edwards contract being up very shortly. But it would have been nice if the club or rather the two idiots that purport to be the club had approached FGR directly and stated their interest in him and could they start negotiations. A little courtesy doesn't hurt and goes a long way as well. I cannot wait to see these two charlatans out of the club.

I feel for Edwards. Sure he'll get a nice payday at some point but with these two dolts unlikely to change tack he's been given a thankless task.

Our Chairman works quickly - and responds quickly, the contract statements all clarified on social media once the story hit the press (see Dale Vince twitter or BBC Glos Tv as well) . On Monday when he first spoke to Rob it became immediately apparent that Watford and Rob had the deal already done behind the clubs back. Our Chairman is a mature and sensible bloke (I might not agree with his bonkers politics and associated stunts) but he is sensible when it comes to managing people/businesses and simply became resigned to Rob going so why make it difficult and ackward - best to get rid. This is exactly what Dale did. In the years that i have supported the club i cannot recall a single occasion where Dale has not told the truth - we may not like it on occasion but he is smart chap and certainly no liar.
(witness the Christain Doidge transfer sage with bankrupt Bolton - Dale was correct, had teh contract off verbatum, Bolton were wrong and it cost them a lot of money)
PS - apparently Watford dont want Rob to start until first of July to avoid paying him - hahahha!

Very much so. Until very recently there's been a Welsh connection at Vicarage Road. Good to see it being revived. Bet Tom Walley is proud too.

I've just had a horrible realisation. We're going to approach this in a sensible way for once, getting a young up and coming British manager in, giving him some input into who's in the squad, play some youth...

And it's going to be a ******* disaster and Gino is going to think 'why the **** did I bow to the pressure of these idiot fans, I've got us out of the Championship with a couple of random foreigners and a heap of Udinese reserves twice before'. And that will be that, back to the chaos.

But don’t you see the problem here? It’s just his words - if he truly wanted to have people believe this, he would have said he was reporting us and tried for compensation. He’s leaving it very open as to why he hasn’t done that. And given his reactions all over the media today, I’m not sure I am seeing the views of a rational, mature and sensible man.

I’m not saying he’s lying at all. I am saying I don’t think just because he’s shooting his mouth off (unwisely in my opinion) on Twitter, that therefore makes what he’s saying true. It could easily be said he feels like he’s been outmanoeuvred and is trying to save face.

It was also said (I think) that we DID want him to start before July 1st hence why 6 months salary is being paid to you. This is a truncated summer and the season kicks-off on July 30th. I suspect we want him in place before July 1st.

Plus he’s not your manager anymore - I’m sure he can start whenever we want him to. And as much as we have just been relegated, I’m sure we aren’t going to haggle over a few weeks pay for what will be a low-paid manager. If you believe that, I don’t know where to begin!

I’m not saying you guys are right or that we are right - we have bad form, but your chairman has muddied the waters in my opinion.

I just think it’s a dangerous road to go down when you think just because your owner said something, that means it must be true.
