Can’t be bothered to go through all those pages, this looks likely enough now we know how the club works, not our first new manager rodeo.

    Anyone know anything about him?

He’s the Howe type we’ve been looking for. Or something.

Thanks for creating the thread - it would be good to have one where we can actually discuss the manager, as opposed to just regurgitating the sour grapes PR from the owner of his former club.

I already posted this first bit yesterday based on my initial observations:

"As with Manning he seems to favour an approximate 3-4-1-2.

An initial glance though indicates his style of football at Forest Green seems a bit more direct and high-octane, as opposed to Manning's slightly more measured possession-based style (albeit they still focus on playing proper football quickly on the ground - they don't seem a long-ball/kick and rush team).

The most stand-out feature of Forest Green's team stats this season appears their pressing ability - in line with their high-octane style they seem to favour pressing very high up the pitch and allow their opponents few opportunities to play out from the back.

Another tick in Edwards' favour is that unlike some of the other candidates we've been linked to he's actually managed to win the division he was in with his team."

    ----

@LouOrns also posted this article which is a pretty good read, and seems in line with my initial observations above.

    https://www.gloucestershirelive.co....r.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar

The additional bit of information from this article which I did like though is it stating that he's happy to make changes and substitutions as early as half-time if things aren't going to plan. I'm sure it was a major bug-bear of plenty on here that some of our recent managers, especially Ranieri, have been so tardy with substitutions.

Given his 3-4-1-2, I reckon we already have a fair few players who would suit such a system. Kamara and Femenia (when fit) should both suit the attacking wing-backs he likes to deploy. Though I do reckon we'll need another backup for Kiko should he stay as Ngakia is not up to it. Ebosele would be good if he comes here, if not then we could sign Kane Wilson on a free (FGR's RWB last season, still 22).

We also have plenty of CBs already to cover a 3 at the back system, albeit not all of them are especially good. Hopefully it would mean Sierralta being nailed as a starter again, and we may also look to bring in at least one other additional quality player in the role.

Central Midfield, we lack quality for the 2 roles, but Louza will probably take one, meaning hopefully one more quality addition there.
For the number 10 Zinckernagel is an obvious solution, though he could depend on if Forest go up or not and whether we want him still even if they don't.

The main question mark I think will be in the 2 forward roles. He seems to use more Centre Forwards than wingers, which isn't necessarily bad as we're losing our best wingers anyway. However, the CFs he had a FGR were both quite big lads who were good in the air and scored a fair few headers from crosses. He also requires his forwards to press a lot. JP might be alright for one of the roles, but I reckon he'll want at least one other more aggressive goalscorer in addition. Cucho might have some issues finding a starting spot unless Edwards adapts his system and style a bit.

Just seen he only won 4 of his last 17 matches. Sounds like a Watford boss already.

FGR super pissed about this. Typical Watford way of doing business no doubt to avoid some compensation or fee. As if Watford are not hated enough at the moment.

Maybe this could be a good move. There is a lot of toxicity and negativity around the club, and it needs someone fresh, with lots of energy and positivity, who can raise the morale of everyone. Hopefully the club backs Rob and brings in some players that enable us to do well next yr. Rob was out of contract next month, so not sure we have broken any rules, although it would have been good etiquette to speak to Forest first

If true that we approached him behind their backs, that's a really poor show after the song and dance we (rightly) made over Silva.

Some FGR fans think Edwards only had a 1 year contract with them anyway.

"Maybe RE did really only have a 1 year deal. Quite possible as he seems to have walked as a free agent - no mention anywhere of compensation for breaking his contract."

But sure - Pozzos are evil, we're all that's wrong with football. This isn't as bad as Silva but somehow just as snake-like. Grrrr!!!:mad::mad::mad:

If his one year deal was really to expire in June. Having just got promotion why didn’t FGR expect an approach from a myriad of clubs?

If he had said I am not renewing my contract because Watford are making me an offer, how could FGR trump that? Not with salary or football expectations. It really is a case of being too small a pond. After all there are more empty seats in the SEJ stand on match days than there are seats at the FGR stadium.

Anyway the more I read up, the more excited I am to see how he approaches next season. For me if he sticks with his preferred formation. It is critical he gets the spine of the team right. Could be a better close season than I initially feared.

But sure, many of the posters on here are somehow trying to claim it's the same as Silva and Everton.

We've appointed a promising new manager and still all people want to do is come here and find a way to criticise, even if it makes little sense.

I appear to operating under the misapprehension that I'm posting on a Watford message board, but it must have been hijacked by Everton or FGR fans or something.

If he is under contract, it is.

If he is not or it is about to expire, it isn't.

The pertinent fact here is whether or not he was under contract with more than 6 months to run.

I have no idea whether he was under contract or not, and he might well not have been (in a couple of months or whatever) but if that was the case, it's pretty strange on FGR's part - what were they planning to do next season, having just been promoted? I suppose they'd say 'negotiate a new contract', but that seems quite late in the day, doesn't it?

Silva was a few months in to a season and lasted for weeks. Edwards has already his finished his season at FGR and the rumours/discussions moved quickly over a few days. That's a huge difference already with how much of a potential effect it has in destabilising the other club.

It's not unusual for FGR though, even if a bit foolhardy somehow - quite a few of their better players were only on short-term contracts that are expiring this summer. Even their 22 year-old player of the season, Kane Wilson, was only a one-year deal and is certain to leave.
