Transfer Talk & Suggestions

People confuse "revenue" with profit and ignore debt and relative owner wealth. Our revenue will be higher than most but we will also lose more money than most after allowing for our slightly-slimmed prem cost base.

£35m was operating loss. Total loss was £15m after player sales I think.

I’m not a football finance expert but as far as I know for EFL P&S rules the primary metric is losses over a three year period and not wages/revenue. Also considering the latter would be a wise approach in my view given how many clubs are spending over 150% of their revenue on wages in pursuit of promotion.
I hope you don’t mean me? I am pretty familiar with revenue, profit and debt. Have you looked at Forest’s finances? Or the transfer buckets they and almost every other championship side did last year?

The EFL P&S rules limit how much an impossibly wealthy owner can run up losses. Peter Coates is perhaps the wealthiest owner of an EFL club but had Stoke sell him the ground and training ground in order to keep them below the aggregate losses amount.

No I didn't mean you. I have seen many posts that suggest that because we will have parachute money next season we will have the funds to strenthen our squad, ignoring the financial position that we are in, and that we don't have the owners who are likely to be able to throw money at the problem even if FL rules allowed us to.

Wouldn't surprise me if we go back in for Jason Knight at Derby in the summer.

From what I've seen of him it would be another terrible use of our likely limited funds.

I mean I doubt he’d cost much given Derby’s relegation and that he has a year left on his contract. He’s still young and has a lot of experience for such a player and has attracted a lot of PL interest in the past.

    Would rather Bielik though.

Has had bad luck with injury but is superb when fit. Worth a punt in my opinion.

Probably just paper talk. I'm not sure he'd even be good enough for our bench. We already have the likes of TDB, Quina and even Hungbo who I'm not sure he'd be any better than.

I've wanted him a few times in the past, but his injury record is of course beyond abysmal. He also still has 2 years on his deal so will cost money.

If he can stay fit then someone would be getting a cracking signing still, and in a role we definitely need filling, but with our terrible record with signing crocks in the past I'm not sure how wise it would be for us.

He has two years left but given his fee and pedigree I would imagine he wouldn’t be willing to play in L1 and stands to be the highest earner in the division. He will cost money but probably a fairly low amount.

  12. Chumlax

Absolutely, he's a very talented player, but it goes beyond having bad luck with injury - he hasn't reached half the league appearances possible in each of his last three seasons - in only one of those three did he even reach one-third of possible league appearances. There's a reason he's playing for a team that's just been relegated from the Championship, and, indeed, it's not his ability.

If we spend any money on him at all, it won't be able to go elsewhere and Fuxbury will use that sole outlay as his excuse/emblem of a total sea change, immediately before he's ruled out for the season within the first 72 minutes of play.

I am no expert on injuries but it seems that at least two have been freak impact injuries and none of his injuries have been recurring issues. But I totally understand your reticence.

Like the new nickname for a certain somebody...

Classic, isn't it. Have to be open in that I can't claim any credit for it - as far as I'm aware I first saw it from @Lloyd, but I can't attest to whether it came in turn from his eyes or mind.

With his injury record, would Bielik signing a cross between Janmaat and Prodl.

Jason Knight is more than paper talk. There’s genuine and long-standing interest from us.

I've said it before and i'll say it again - Antoine Semenyo at Bristol City, 22 years old and has 8 goals + 12 assists for a dire Bristol City side. Would be a very smart pickup.

It would be a smart pickup…for a club willing to spend £8m+. That’s not us next season. Hell, it wasn’t us this season.

Rumour is Falcao is coming in the summer. Ticks all the boxes and some. Will help Asprilla settle in as well. Looking to move into coaching. Player manager as well then.

Wish we were the type of club to go and pick up a player like Scott Twine, but we'll leave that to a team with proper ambition. File under signing Murray instead of Toney.

Doubt we could afford him - and when you think he’s a League One player and we have had 6 of the last 7 seasons getting Premier League money. That’s quite some financial work.

One season left on his contract and seems pretty keen on a move. They're are going to have to find money from somewhere. Frustrating if they can't find that kind of money.

Linked to Timo Hubers of 1FC Cologne. No chance we get him of course as he has other suitors that can offer more money and a better surrounding playing wise.

He's reminding me quite a bit of Adam Armstrong - similar style, and his all-round game is a bit lacking, but he has a cracking strike.

I wouldn't be against us picking him up and helping fire us to promotion, but then like Armstrong he'd prob be a bit of a luxury player at PL level with it not being quite clear whether he's a second-striker, attacking mid, or left-winger, and he'll need to improve his defensive game a lot to get minutes.

If Forest get promoted and MK Dons don't, then using money from selling Zinc on him could make sense.

Free transfer though - with Deeney and Gray gone we've maybe got room for one more old striker on massive wages.

If Okoye and Falcao both pitch up here next season we will be miraculously transformed from a team of nondescript clogger orcs content to hide their shame in the darkness to the most rakish, dashing group of sweet bois the Championship has ever seen. Get him in.

Carney Chukwuemeka has 12 months left on his contract. Linked with moves to Germany, but he might drop down to get the chance to play more football.
