Players Not Getting A Look In

How is it exactly that we can be this bad week in, week out, concede this many goals, score so few, lose ten in a ******* row at home, and yet some players literally just cannot be given even half a chance? What sense does it make to keep playing the same woeful losers who let us down over and over again whilst leaving others to rot? How could others who don't get a chance possibly do any worse?

The way Sierralta has been treated all season is a joke, now it's Etebo's turn. Baah is fit and can't get a look in as we flood the bench with centre mids, Kalu not even in the squad, Nkoulou now actively fit and available and not involved.

I am so ******* sick of seeing the same dross like Kucka (who is then replaced by the utterly awful Cleverley every week) stink up the pitch every single game. At least replace them with some different dross ffs. Play Etebo, play Sierralta, play Kalu, play Nkoulou (by far our most accomplished centre back) and play Baah. They physically cannot do any worse.

Stop rewarding failure and making terrible players untouchable. It's lunacy.

Nkoulou is a very strange one to me, as he can't even be being held back by any contract-related bollox, presumably.

Sierralta is being frozen out for going on international duty when the club didn’t want him to and getting injured

Etebo won’t come on as they don’t want to pay appearance clauses to Stoke

Nkoulou probably has appearance based fees in his contract as well

    Baah, who knows

Kalu was just a bank transfer to you know who

Even if this last one is true, who cares? He cannot be any worse. Sarr looks like a competition winner since he's been back and Pedro to me looks about 4 years away from being close to ready for Premier League football.

Just try something ******* different and give others a chance.

Kayembe played well when he first came in. Nothing spectacular but played it simple and helped retain possession. All of a sudden he can’t get a sniff off the bench. Same **** different day but expecting different results. The definition of insanity

At least kind of understandable then (see also Etebo), although there certainly is no good reason to have seen so little of Sierralta, Baah, Kalu (and **** it, why not Forde?)

Tbh of all the things I'm pissed off about, which of our ****** losers gets picked to humiliate our club each week isn't high on the list right now.

  10. NathWFC

    NathWFC First Team

It's not understandable, because they're better players than the ones starting games, which may give at least a 1% better chance of not being humiliated every single week.

Some of them would be punts and just throwing them in and seeing what happens. In the cases of Nkoulou and Etebo it's Nkoulous > every other centre back at the club and Etebo > both Kucka and Cleverley. I still say Sierralta is better than all the other centre backs bar Nkoulou as well. He's not a proven loser, at least.

For a start we should be desperately trying to retain Etebo for the Championship.

There is probably a variety of reasons - but the main one that sticks out for me is the bar the players have set. Roy won't change things up, he's an old man who is stuck in his ways. Besides, if he did that we might actually play better and win a few of our final games. Cannot have that now can we? I also think, like you and others have said, it's purely down to his personal squad now, and he doesn't care if we go down (which is 99% likely now) or survive.

Players he has at his disposal are ones that are set in their ways and have been for the last few seasons. We keep signing over-the-hill players and cheap bargins that would not look out of place in League Two, and he will continue to line up with the same formation next week - where we will get hit for six or seven. Players' will shrug their shoulders and Foster will grin. It's so frustrating, and you want to kick a few @rses yourself, but our hands are tied.

He probably has the ability to piss the Championship, but he was hardly outstanding for Stoke, and has spent more time away from the club than actually at the club in his time as a Stoke player, so I wouldn't be so keen to make that loan permanent, rather take a punt on TDB and see if we can keep the likes of Louza and Kayembe (Kucka to play the Carlos Sanchez role at best)

When he's played he's looked good enough for this league to me (without being spectacular), never mind the Championship. He's also expressed being keen to stay.

We absolutely should be looking to retain him, and we absolutely should be playing him now.

Was in a google search hole the other day and found myself seeing where Jerome Sinclair was these days…… No club, 25 and no club, he has gone from 16 year old wonder kid to no club in 9 years. We have an entire squad of Jerome Sinclair's, players who if we tore up their contract would struggle to be offered a new one by league two teams

There is a difference between being in the Prem and the Championship though tbf, sometimes players who feel they should be in the Prem feel demotivated in the Championship. Just out of interest, when did he say he wanted to stay? And did he say he would be willing to stick around in the Championship?

Shame Etebo got injured, he looked decent early on, but then so did Kucka.

Sierralta must be a unfortunate combination of Covid, international duty fiasco and injury, seems odd not to have seen more game-time given his performances last season. Although he wasn’t up to much in his career before last season, so maybe he’s been deemed not to PL standard by the decision makers? If that was the case, you’d think we’d have signed a centre half in the summer. Still would have preferred to see him ahead of Cathcart this season. Hopefully he’s still here next year.

Nkoulou would have seen alot more game time only for his injury, unlucky for him and us.

Kalu one is just odd. Hardly signed him only to then realise he’s sh1te?

Quite so. Things are looking healthy and we can also reinvest Sarr and Dennis money according to financial boffins on Twitter.

What I don't get is why we then offered him a new 5 year contract? Makes no sense to tie him down long term if we've got no interest in playing him.

If the management structure at any workplace is flawed people will lose heart.

Some will fight against it for a while and then leave if they receive a better offer.

Others will simply carry on,do what they are paid to do and ride it out as they can't afford to make a stand.

I don't blame any of the players, they're merely pawns in the Pozzo family game of football chess. Like Olivier as Zeus and err Hilda Baker as Hera they sit on their version of Olympus and move the players around whilst we all watch on in horror.

    Πόλιν ύβριν.

We were told when Roy joined that he doesn't like to change his team. I think he is that kind of manager that can use just 15 players throughout a season provided they are fit.

Our model is not only to sign the wrong players, it's to ruin the careers of as many others as possible along the way as possible.
