Any club would be mad to take him off our hands now. We'll have no choice but to reach a very expensive settlement with him and hopefully he leaves. If he stays for his whole contract it's bad for the wage bill and potentially squad harmony, as I'm sure he still has a lot of mates in the squad.

Best we can possibly hope for is pay off the remainder of this year, giving him the opportunity to immediately sign for someone else. Problem is the only way he’ll make the money back is going overseas somewhere, so the options are limited. There is a fair chance we have to pay most or all of his deal up.

I’d say there’s a fairer chance he would refuse any attempts to pay him off. Just like he did at Spurs.

I said when his arrival was first talked about NO.
Some said it was worth a punt, it never was, his attitude to playing football was clear.
A complete waste of time and money.

    You are totally correct.
He will sit tight on his contract. I warned of this once we signed him.
He had/has no plans to play football. He signed a contract, can't blame him for that, but probably knew at the time he was mentally and physically shot.
Watford should have employed a specialist Employment lawyer before signing him. Caveats should have been inserted into his contract regarding his mental state and physical fitness.
Surely the club should have seen that his fitness was poor.
He is no fool, he would have known his legal position regarding his contract. He signed and then did nothing to justify being a professional footballer. He is probably being advised by Eniola Aluko.
He will do the same to any club he signs for and he is toxic in the football World.

Not a chance in the world you can put a clause in a footballers contract relating to mental health.

Then where do you draw the line?
You and l plus most football fans knew Rose had issues.
The Club can't insert a mental health caveat, but 6 months later he reverts to type.
I don't wish to downplay mental wellbeing, but Rose would have known his own mind.
He should accept his position, tear up his contract, say thanks to Watford for giving him another chance.
I doubt another will sign him.

Seeing as he loves being at the club so much, as well as being “such a great influence on our U23’s”, why don’t we give him a new contract as an U23’s coach on a tenth of the wages he’s currently on

Arrogant of Gino to think he could change Rose's attitude?
Possibly but what a dismal state of affairs from the player to stick around and claim the cash.
If he loved playing football he'd seek another club.
The contract should be cancelled by mutual consent if there was an honour but as there isn't, we're stuck with him I expect.
Take him on a tour of local schools to warn against the dangers of obesity.
    Fraud.

I have no issue with Rose's stance. The club gave him a 2-year deal and they are obliged to pay him for the entire length of contract. As long as he shows up to training and does the things he's contracted to do, then he's entitled to stay.

If the club pay him the two years in advance or he finds himself another club of similar salary, which is doubtful, then that could change, but if you sign mercenaries, don't be surprised if they do mercenary things.

Of course he loves being at the club, he has a lovely two year deal.
He will sit on the deal, as predicted by many before the season begun and not play.
There is zero upside from this for the club.
Rose should tear up his contract, come clean on his mental health & physical fitness and then move on.
Will this happen? No chance, Spurs and Newcastle fans have commented on the very same issue. Yet, Rose can continue to sign deals of which he has not intention of fulfilling.
The club has a choice, sell him, pay him up or just let him see out his contract (gardening leave)
More fool Watford on giving a two year deal without any clause to a player who most fans felt didn't want to play football any more.
He and his agent would have known of his legal position regarding his contract.
This could become ugly for Rose and Watford.
Ps: Read the comments by Roy Keane
3 to 4 years ago on Danny Rose. It appears now that he was right.

“I’ve had enough,” Rose said. “At the minute, how I programme myself is that I just think: ‘I’ve got five or six more years left in football and I just can’t wait to see the back of it.’ Seeing how things are done in the game at the minute … It’s just – whatever, isn’t it? I just want to get out of it.

Racism is a terrible thing and has to be eradicated from football and society.

But getting fat, being unfit and taking money under the pretence you will make yourself fit to play is not the way to stop being criticised / abused.

How amusing to see people blaming Rose for this and not the numbskulls who gave him a 2 year deal on high salary when he was miles out of shape.

Why on Earth should he tear up his contract if he is available for selection??

Um, it shouldn't be upon black people to stop racist incidents happening, he could be 100 st, it doesn't mean that it's in any way acceptable to be racist to him--criticise his fitness all you like, but you cross the line when you bring race into it!

Couldn’t agree more. He was out of shape at Newcastle and barely played, he was still overweight when we signed him. The club somehow decided he’d miraculously want to turn his career around by signing for us despite all available evidence suggesting otherwise. If the club were daft enough to sign him, there is absolutely no blame on Rose for simply continuing to be the player he was when they signed him.

  26. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Yep, they should pay Rose what he’s owed and get rid of him. As I said in the Ranieri Out thread, as usual the blame falls upon the wrong people. Blaming the symptoms rather than the virus.

Yep. And now we pay the £3m/£6m penalty depending on salary. Actually I hope he has the new 50% relegation salary cut that Duxbury hard balled at Hughes!

Not saying you have, but Rose's weight has nothing to do with it, if you're inclined to racially abuse Rose because of his weight, I dare say that people will actually respect black people any more even if he were in tip top shape

Fully expect Rose to stay and fight for his place. I can imagine that he will shortly be running up mountains backwards, with weights strapped to him - or is that his gut. Either way go Danny

There has to be some measure of honesty from both parties.
Rose knows he is not in the position to play mentally or physically. He should accept his situation and resign from his contract. He doesn't want to play.
No point in Rose bleating to the press.
Watford should let the fans know what is going on with Rose. Are they going to just let Rose see out his contract? That just takes the piss.
I know that people say "well, what would you do?". Rose has history and history is repeating itself. At some point, a club should say enough.
