This game was a throw away. The crap players getting their last chance to show some metal, the developing players to show if they are near ready, then the better players using it as a runabout as there's big games coming up....
Typical recipe for that sort of performance...?
It's the next few games that will define where we're heading....

Yes but that's my point, I don't understand why we don't have that plan! It's so simple especially for clubs like us that can't compete financially at the top level anymore.

Is there any chance our brainless fans can stop singing about Luton being battered everywhere they go until, I dunno, we stop being battered everywhere we go?

We haven't looked anything like a team with a plan since the summer Silva joined. Since then it feels like we have just bounced from one crisis and it is a bit like trying to plug holes on the titanic.

Why would a young promising player want to sign for a club when they have no idea who the coach will be in 2 months time, that tried to withhold bonuses from their players because the owner was upset we lost a cup final and has tried on numerous occasions to prevent players from going on international duty.

I would be surprised if agents are not telling their players to stay the **** away which is why we are forced to rely on dodgy Mogi.

Was he that cheap though? End of contract signing on fee plus I imagine £25k a week over 5 years. That’s about £7m flushed away over 5 years on nothing. Small fry admittedly but when everyone says how limited our finances are then why just waste this money?

Him being cheap was literally the only thing he had going for him.

Dont try take that away as well.

Apparently Mark not so Bright told a friend of Mr IBB's that Palace are really worried about their academy, this was in July.

If we had a half decent academy, we could be filling the back-up squad positions with players we develop. That's what, I imagine, many similar placed clubs would do.

I agree, in what other business would you buy a machine that was going to cost you 7 million over five years only to be used three or four times a year and then no guarantee it was going to get you the required output from it?

I think the clubs view is that it is more cost effective to sign players like Pedro, Cucho, Asprilla, Suarez, Estupinan from South America than it is to run a Category A academy.

If you dont have a Category A academy you are just going to get stripped of every player with the potential to be PL quality.

A good point. The way the system works is that you either have an academy where the best players are bought off or you run a very expensive one where you may keep them.

Those money mad **** suckers at the FA have bent over for the big clubs to allow them to rape the football league clubs, so why bother.

Yeah they are just selling their dinner to buy their breakfast. Its working a treat now as all the best youth from all over the country is being funnelled into the top four or five academies and getting the best education they can get. However I suspect it will cost England in the long run as more and more clubs stop investing in their academies as they cease to be a source of first team players.

Well, I was there today and was disappointed that my dream of seeing Watford lift the Cup was shattered for another year. Just three points to comment on:
The game was really open, just like the league game had been, only with somewhat lower quality players. At 2-1 it was there for the taking but our players didn’t seem to have the conviction to go on and score.
I was really surprised that none of the new signings featured at all. Are they just going to be pitched in to the big three games next week, or will they be deemed ‘not quite ready’ in which case it will be too late.
It was disheartening that Ranieri gave up at 3-1 with the second round of substitutions. With plenty of time left, a 3-2 score line would have made a win still possible. I understand the reasons why he did it, but getting through would have given a big boost to the squad. Maybe that’s just me. :(

That is true they have a very large catchment are but if little Jonny has the chance of superstardom and enormous wealth their parents will take them wherever. I understand Chelsea nab loads of them.

This is just regularly shown to be nonsense though isn’t it? (No offence meant to you)

But these crap players aren’t being given their last chance? There’s too many of them for a start. And they are being used every week - what’s going to suddenly change? Expecting a lightbulb to suddenly switch on in Gino’s mind is a fruitless wish.

    Developing players? Cracking joke that.

Just read that Rogers wants to postpone the game against Everton as he has only 8 senior players to pick from.

It’s pathetic that we lost so heavily to a side with so few players to call on and a measure of how **** we are that Rogers didn’t consider cancelling the match with us because he knew he’d win easily with a makeshift side, which is exactly what happened.

Or he don't really give a **** about the FA Cup. To be honest Rodgers chats ****. They actually had quite a strong side out. They had better players than we had. If they call off the Everton game its a joke.

Why is it that every club other than us has a ‘very large catchment area’?

You make a good point on players leaving but if an academy is well run, seriously develops young players and has a credible pathway to the first team, you’d keep more players than you’d lose.

The Leicester midfield wasn’t too shabby at all and Lookman /Perez aren’t bad on their day .

They were worried about the defence mainly but didn’t really need to.

Unfortunately our defence give up so many chances any half decent set of footballers will score goals .

It must be a wind up. My curiosity was piqued so I took a look and he’s posted about it being unlikely anyone we sign in January being better than Cathcart!

And they come up against Fletcher who looked like he had never played football before. Although their defence also give up a lot of chances but we couldn't finish.

It’s not the fact we lost, but it’s the manner of defeat. Leicester are a good enough side, but they’ve been on a difficult run, then we rock up and they smash us for four yet again, this time with a patched up side.

We are just cannon fodder for everyone to play against. After the initial bounce we had under Ranieri, where performances looked on the up, that’s all over now.

We’re now going backwards as a side. I just don’t see the improvements. The evidence seems to be pointing the other way.

Munoz actually picked up 7 points from 7 games and a cup win against Palace.

Ranieri has managed 6 points from 11 games and a cup defeat. It’s just not good enough.

Maybe, but how many of the players we have lost do you honestly think would have made a significant difference to us in the PL?

Leicester also have incredibly wealthy owners who put staggering amounts of money a lot of money in to the club, including their youth team. Their training facilities alone cost them £100m.

Just have a google of what Leicester, Chelsea or even Sunderland's training facilities look like and then look at ours. What youth player in their right mind would go to Watford when they could earn significantly more, in considerably nicer surroundings and have a better chance at getting game time.
