Might as well put a random animal from London zoo in goal instead of Bachmann. It would have the same outcome, cheaper wages and maybe a higher resale value....

At least a ghost wouldn't pass to the opposition or mess up a simple through-ball. A ghost would send shivers down the spine of the opposition not it's own fans and players. He has the gravitas and wisdom of a vacuum and the poise and athleticism of a container ship. No wonder the Turkish national team is in a downward spiral when you can count him as one of your experienced internationals. Another one of Team Poxbury's "inspired" signings.

Giraffe would be good on crosses.

Elephant would fill the goal well

Lion/tiger would have cat like reflexes

A skunk would put off the opposition.

    We would sign a sloth.

Last time we had a ma-hassive PL relegation 6-pointer, we conceded 3 very bad first half goals against a battling West Ham and sacked our head coach with only 2 games to play in a hushed-up bust-up. I sincerely hope history does not repeat itself.

Absolutely. We deserve a public bust up. On the pitch if at all possible.

There was an elite back then, it was just that (apart from Liverpool) we streamrollered over them and brushed the remains aside. Teams getting a proportion of the gate money made it a more level playing field and a well run club both on and off the pitch was often rewarded with success. The formation of the Premier League put a stop to that.

Every club makes mistakes on transfers. The clubs with little resources trying to keep up with the massive corporate entities get punished far more for their mistakes than the big boys, who can hire top accountants and lawyers to overcome the financial fair play rules and write off hundreds of millions. We have done ok in the last decade, but more recently, we are struggling to secure the right type of player in the defensive area.

How? It'll surely be Samir - Sierralta (please Claudio).

Vida seems possible still as well.

Ah we lost. That’s a shame. How good were Morris, Forde and Conteh ?

I dont disagree with all that, but my issue isnt so much with the hits and misses. My problem is that the overall strategy to so much of it seems shambolic.

We scrape round in the bargain bin for free transfers and loans for players out of form and shape for our first choice, but we are happy to spend an enormous wedge of our limited budget on a player who won't even play for us this season. Surely that £6m would have been better spent on signing Kamara, Doig or an actual midfielder at the start of the season?

Players that have proven themselves not good enough at our level and/or are coming towards the end of their careers like Success, Cathcart, Cleverley, Cathcart, Sema, Prodl, Britos, Gomes, Holebas are showered with contract extensions "to protect their value".

We blow our transfer record on a £30m winger when we have just signed our coach who plays a system that doesnt use wingers to a 7 year deal.

Feels like it’s worth saying again - Samir, whilst playing more regularly this season, hasn’t always been first choice in poor Udinese defence. Indeed, there’s been times when our own WTE was selected ahead of him.

He’s not a certain improvement at all. Pinning hopes on Sierralta seems a bit worthless at the minute too - hopefully he improves but have we really got time for him to get to grips with it? At the minute he looks anything but PL quality.

    We need better.

What a waste of time it was of time it was driving all the way to Leicester to see that. Although in fairness it's what I expected.

The more I watch Fletcher play the more I am baffled about signing him. He was extremely ineffective. Couldn't really see the foul for the penalty but apparently it was stonewall. Looked like they they should have been down to 10 men at the end of the first half.

We were completely battering them in the second half at 2-1 but weren't clinical enough. They ended up sucker punching us on the counter attack. I knew it was time to go home when Ranieri subbed Joao Pedro and Sissoko off for Goslingand Sema although, Sissoko was poor today also.

    Positives;
    James Morris looked good.
Pedro and Cucho linked up very well and JP looked quality.
    We rested King & Dennis.

Morris didn't disgrace himself but is a million miles away from being able to play in the Premier League, looked really slow throughout.

It's so depressing that not only is our first team squad stocked full of crap, overpaid shiiiite but we have pretty much no youth prospects either.

Morris over Masina please as backup to Kamara.

But ideally Doig brought in and Masina pushed to anyone that will have him.

Conteh showed for the ball and looked like he wanted to get involved.

Morris did ok, he needs some bulk though and perhaps licence or confidence to push up and overlap more.

    I didn’t really notice Forde.

What I like to call "the Brandon Mason effect". A couple of semi decent balls into the box and tackles in a humiliating defeat when surrounded by useless senior professionals make a young player's contribution easy to overrate as we search for some sort of positive.

He was fine, didn't disgrace himself. Looks lightweight and incredibly slow though.

Fletcher is such an odd player. He is built like a big target man, but looks totally incapable of playing with his back to goal.

He has a reasonable knack of getting on the end of chances, and manages it almost every time he plays, but I have absolutely no confidence he can finish them

No idea what the scouts saw in him other than he was cheap - which seems to be enough for Pozzo.

Playing 90 minutes without disgracing himself is more than Masina or Rose can manage.

That win over United came at a heavy price in terms of injuries. I wonder who will be available first, Nkoulou or Sarr?

I will never understand why a club the size of us haven't found a way to get youngsters into the first team picture. It's pretty easy as well, just copy Brentford. We're practically a London club, Arsenal and Chelsea have fantastic youth teams, think of the released players that we could be hoovering up. Then give them proper games to play, not taking part in the U23 league playing against the likes of Colchester. Morris has captained the U23s and is clearly the best of the current bunch, today he can be very proud of his performance but it shows the enormous gap we have to close.

Even the stripey Nigels have invested heavily in their academy. It will pay dividends one decent player and costs are covered.

We just seem to poach ones from other clubs and lose badly each week .

Morris will probably be sent out on loan when Masina comes back .

  32. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Because we can’t develop players at the club. We can’t be bothered with a decent academy and have a different coach every 6 months so there’s no plan of action. We farm any decent potential around Europe and act surprised when most of them come back disillusioned or want to leave. However, if we sell them for a minor profit, we laud our system as amazing despite putting any money towards 30 plus mercenaries.

And of course, there’s the odd high natural talent outlier like Richarlison and JP, who the usual suspects will claim mean the other 99% of failures don’t count.

Because the talented players leaving their academy like Lamptey or Guehi know that their development is far better served going to a club like Brighton or Palace with a coherent plan.
