    One.

    Plus:

Liverpool want rid of Phillips permanently for at least £15m.
Winks is staying at Spurs as confirmed by Conte and is getting game time.
Arsenal aren’t going to let Nketiah go on loan with less than 6 months on his deal.
Dean Henderson is on 120k-150k a week…and Ragnick has said he won’t let him go.
Lucas Digne is on £100k+ a week and is wanted by West Ham and Chelsea.

So as much as I’d take any of them, I’d say they are all pipe dreams when you see the names of the players we are actually linked with.

As great a player as Eriksen is, does he suit us? He’s not really a CM, more a #10. He wouldn’t give us much defensive cover. We’d have to change our entire system to accommodate him and even then he may only be at his most effective in a team that dominates.

Or does it not matter? When a player is that far out of our league are these questions just overthinking it?

    As in ‘one more’?
Surely the cap isn’t a single domestic loan? And we have Etebo from Stoke already so if that’s the case we’re already out of the running.

    So pretty unrealistic!

Like you say we are shopping at a lower level .

We have signed a dross DM from KAS Eupen specifically so a world class talent like Eriksen can flourish in our team - you heard it here first.

I know I’ve been away recently but are we really seriously suggesting signing Christian Eriksen who hasn’t played since the incident last summer to help us in our relegation dogfight? And STILL banging on about Phillips, Henderson and that Arsenal kid?

    lol

Our pitch side medical team are excellent, as proved against Chelsea and Spurs. Should convince Eriksen he's in safe hands at our club.

Maybe I’m wrong and need to research more - but wouldn’t Eriksen’s device make it more, not less, safe to sign him? Surely the only risk is that he doesn’t have the confidence himself in his own body?

I really think he will go back to Ajax anyway. Been there before, they love him - and already have a player on their books in the exact same scenario as Eriksen so they know what they will be getting kinda.

There would be absolutely no harm in signing Eriksen on a pay per play deal, as long as we weren’t relying on him in any way. I can see only upside as long as the deal was structured right, and he was seen as a bonus player, if he can perform anywhere near his previous levels then great, if not then to doesn’t matter.

I’m sure he’s going to be fine health wise to play. But he won’t be fit, will likely need weeks of getting up to speed and is simply not the type of player for a relegation fighting team.

Just surprised he’s even mentioned. But I guess the Watford fans love a good ‘big name’.

To be honest, I don’t think it’s as outlandish a suggestion as yourself. Sissoko was in France’s euros squad and came to us a month later. I don’t think it’s silly to suggest Eriksen - I think it’s probably more silly to assume he wouldn’t have any number of clubs before us in the queue.

I do agree more so with your first paragraph though. Although we do lack a decent option in Eriksen’s position. Sure we need steel more so, but a creative type can just easily do a job down the bottom of the table as he can at the top.

Seems odd to say ‘he will leave this summer’.
He’s on a 2yr deal so unless there’s a break clause, I don’t see why we would wait until summer to get him out the door? Just do it now.

Yeah, just pay him up now assuming we’re paying him for this year and allowing him to leave a year early. The only thing I can think is we’re keeping him around for extreme emergencies, but we’ll see if he’s named in the squad or not.

Well, I doubt they will even use him in an emergency if he’s been told he won’t play again.

The danger here is Danny Rose sat around at Spurs quite willingly doing nothing and running his contract down.

Yes, sounds like another Deeney/Gray situation and one we do not need or want especially right now. Get rid ASAP, even if we have to play Morris out of position as backup when needed. There still is a decent player in Rose, but I fear his personal issues, whatever they may be have been holding his confidence back coupled with weight/fitness issues. He needs time to sort his head out and perhaps a bit of time out of the game is what he needs.

  25. simpleMASH

I expect we’ll have to pay up his contract. Given his previous issues and lack of fitness in the summer, you would hope that we inserted some clauses that allowed us to terminate the contract after just 1 season unless he made x number of appearances. That would seem far too practical for our recruitment team though.

Given he actually got a great rep last season for being around the Spurs U23 setup, I do wonder if he’s better off retiring and taking up an early career in coaching. He’s said himself he enjoyed it and maybe given his history, that’s the best place for him right now.

Spurs may even take him back under such a plan given Mourinho has moved on.

Being I supposed Gooner there's some talk that they may make Smith-Rowe available for a loan. They're insane if they do but what a player to snatch for half a season.

Yeah, no offence but there's literally no chance in hell that happens - would be honestly less surprising if it's a false rumour made up by a team of researchers investigating how easily/far total transfer bollox can spread, just like that old 'eating spiders in your sleep' chestnut.

Think it's worth highlighting this to show even the better recruiting clubs sometimes make massive **** ups:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59892199

Locadia leaves Brighton on a free, three years after signing for £15m and after making 35 appearances for them in all comps.

What's truly crazy is how little impact he had in MLS whilst he was there:

    upload_2022-1-6_11-45-18.png

Any time I watched him play for Cincinnati he did absolutely nothing, and as a Premier-League-club-owned 26 to 28-year-old that's just unacceptable.
