He's still got the biggest ears though. In fact he's got the edge on Jodrell Bank as well. Here's the proof...
All the important words. Been learning online with a school in Belgrade for about 10 months, though I did speak a bit before that.
What is it with rich footballers dressing like children? Deulofeu was probably the worst for it, looked like a toddler in every picture not in club kit.
It is a pretty tough language to learn. Especially when it comes to grammar. A lot of native speakers struggle with it. Why did you start learning it, if you don't mind me asking?
Most men have very poor taste in clothing/style as it is - or, at least, have never really engaged with the concept outside of whatever clothes they are 'required' to wear to be considered appropriately attired for school, or work, or wherever else those expectations are coming from. Clothes are a functional means to an end as much as anything else - for men, broadly speaking, societal expectation clothing-wise comes down to being dressed appropriately, rather than well (as it is far more for women). Now imagine you are that, but incredibly rich out of nowhere, and in an environment where being ostentatious about said richness is often prized, as a sort of competition. There are vast swathes of semi-designer, or even designer, brands out there, that are basically aimed squarely at that Eurotrash-esque (and I include the UK in that) 'look how much money I'm wearing' vibe over any semblance of actual 'style'. You could get further into it and say it takes influences from streetwear and pop culture and blows it up, etc etc, but in general that's why so many footballers (and more broadly sportsmen in general) are terribly dressed despite having the money to spend on the kind of brands that those who are interested in clothes can often only dream of.
I would disagree with "most men" but agree with "most British men". Even the poorest Italian/French/Spanish person will have beautifully tailored garments, not expensive but made by a tailor in their town or possibly even village. Most European men and women are elegant. Mr IBB, despite climbing out of the slime that is Croydon,is a dapper chap. Silly old sod in many aspects but very well dressed.
RC was merely adopting the Serbo-Croat spelling variant I'm sure, all part of his cheery welcome for this incoming footballing megastar.
This does sound like a little bit of a Victorian peasant fantasy - I've seen plenty of poorly dressed French, Italian and Spanish men, despite their undeniable statuses as fashion capitals when it comes to Paris, Milan and to a slightly lesser extent Madrid - they're all countries that have helped shape that idea of Eurotrash style too!
That's me,a Victorian peasant! Well, poetic license possibly and of course there are exceptions here and abroad. However I do believe generally our continental cousins are sartorially superior, just as most are linguistically. Up the Greeks!
Here's one of your Greeks obviously on the catwalk in his Sunday best, proving your general theory... Don't tell him he looks like a bag of Athens spuds, he might just hit you.
Without meaning to derail the thread, which site are you using? I've been learning for a couple of years informally and on italki and keen for something formal!
Are you learning Serbian? I just found this place on Google - do a 1 hour Skype call a week, works out about £14 a lesson if you buy in bulk. https://www.srpskijezik.edu.rs/
Yet another example, as if any more were needed, of football mirroring life in general. Methinks you haven't just conjured up these views on the spot, but maybe they are part of a broader set of considerations. I don't disagree, by the way.
I imagine it’s a bit of an echo chamber as well. If anyone ‘normal’ dressed like some footballers do they’d get ripped to pieces wherever they went. I wore some pretty embarrassing stuff when I was younger, but within limits. My mates wouldn’t have let me go too far off piste, nor would anyone in the places I frequented. Footballers are essentially left to their own devices, and nobody but people on their social media feeds are going to tell them they look like a ****.
That’s because the hanger on’s / gold diggers don’t want to criticise and upset their footballer friends by saying that the garment’s that they’re wearing look like total sh*t.
