We all know what we need but will we get what we all want? I would not be surprised if all we get is a bunch of our current players that are out on loan being recalled!!! However lets look on the bright side and trust that The Pozzo's will actually invest in some decent talent early in the January window to plug the gaps left by our AFCON bound players and our serious injury problems too. Therefore if they do invest in some new talent who would you realistically like to see brought in, be it on loan or permenantly?
What we need, in order: CB LB DM FW - either striker or left-wing, capable of more goal threat than King, JP and Cucho Good to have, in order: Goalscoring AM (but might just recall Zinc) RB GK
The article actually suggests Vida and another CB are close. So that’ll be 4 new signings. 2 x CB 1 x LB 1 x DM We can question the quality maybe. But at least they are strengthening in the right areas.
Say what you want about Vida, but I reckon if he's on the pitch today we get a 0-0. Desperately need someone to command the defence.
It’s more that it’s just another signal to me that the club can’t be bothered to properly scout CB’s that’s all. We have seen this type of signing so many times before. I’m happy a defender is coming in, of course I am. It’s just such an underwhelming choice, that’s all.
I think Kamara was one a lot of people wanted but don’t know about the DM. Vida and maybe somebody like Rodon would be ok
It’s an open-ended question really because we don’t know what the budget is. I’d have been heavily in for Kim Min-Jae in the summer and also be enquiring about him in January. I really can’t believe (Gino pig-headedness about defenders aside) that we weren’t heavily in for him in the summer considering he went to Fenerbahce for under £3m. I’d be pushing hard for Joe Rodon. I just fail to believe there isn’t a better option within whatever budget we have than Vida who is clearly being pushed out at Besiktas. It comes across as lazy recruitment IMO.
Positive proactive start to be fair to the owners. I feared they would penny pinch wasting time but it seems they understand the gravity of the situation.
"Ohh the gravity of the situation. It's only my will power that keeps this thing in operation. But we're gonna crash that's for certain The pilot is too busy flirting And he ain't aware there's a bomb down there And if we don't do something it's curtains". Name that song...
We will be in exactly the same situation in the summer with this sort of signing. Completely agree in this regard.
I presume either Masina or Rose will be up for sale if the Left Back comes in? Image there would be more interest in Masina due to his age and wages (likely to be less than Rose?)... Personally I'd rather Rose went. At least Masina appears to care.
True. It's difficult to imagine Gino having 3 first team Left-back's at the club. Seems like a waste of wages
Given Rose’s fitness/shape, the fact that Ranieri has commented on it publicly and he lost his place to a known battle-shirker like Masina, I really think the club will be trying to get Rose out the door. He commented that he was on the verge of a move abroad and it was all agreed, before we came in at the 11th hour… I do wonder if he could resurrect that move. I doubt we would even ask for a fee. But he is homegrown so that would work in his favour. If he could get in shape, I’d rather Rose as left-sided midfield option and get Sema gone.
It's just about finding a club who will pay his wages. Would be surprised if he was on less than £40 k a week.
He'll go there on loan with us paying his wages, then Udinese sign him for nothing in the summer and immediately sell him back to Bologna for €5m. It's a good deal for everyone except Watford. And Bologna.
Lazy or not investing properly. Both imo. Amazing how Kim min jae cost so little, peanuts for a player scouted supposedly previously by us. You pay more for some loans. Rodon is the one I want. Imo exactly what's needed. Would bring balance nicely to our defence and a good age. Not seen him play for Spurs but was always Swansea's stand out player in the Championship. Vida who I believe we are trying to get for nothing is a desperation signing that imo isn't going to work.
Yeah. A Vida style signing 5 windows ago, fine. Now, however, it's beyond the point where we can patch over our defensive holes with a 29 year old, possibly competent style signing. Plus, we all know we will rely on him for 3 years longer than we should.
Interesting it says "Will be backed by incomings". I wonder if Claudio has given Gino a list of his possible targets, or is this simply within a restrained budget. It's obviously our final throw of the dice now to retain our premiership status - and going by what we saw yesterday, shutting up shop is the first thing to address. I've actually never seen us that defensive since QSF.
I do hope you don't think Vida is 29. You'll have a heart attack when you find out how old he actually is!
There’s no chance in the world Ranieri has gone to Gino and said ‘I want this KAS Eupen midfielder. He’s a Mogi Bayat client too Gino, easy enough for you.’
I think Rose is the type of signing Gino is just going to have to take a hit on. We’ll probably have to pay his contract up or hope some overseas club is happy to take him. Let’s face it, any PL or even championship club would be mad to take him on after what has happened at Newcastle and now us. If he wants to carry on playing now the only realistic option is for him to waddle around a sub standard league like Turkey, the US or Saudi Arabia for a year or two. Buy cheap, buy twice.
Cripes alive, he is 32?! We really don't stray too far from 'the model' when it comes to defenders do we? Heaven forfend we ever actually invest in some long term thinking, rather than just buy in more and more tired, mediocre or substandard waifs and strays and hope some coach will cobble together a unit out of them. We literally NEVER learn anything
