Nor have they included the players who’ve been on holiday to African countries.

Or players who would have been called up to Afcon if they hadn't picked a different country to play for: King (Gambia), Sissoko (Mali) or players who missed out on not qualifying for Afcon by picking a different country to play for: Kaba (Congo), Sema (Congo). Or eligible to play for a country that failed to qualify but was never selected: Ngakia (Congo). Or wouldve gone to Afcon if he hadnt retired from international football: Nkoulou (Cameroon).

Something good for WFC could come out of this latest Covid scare? As our players may not have to go To AFCON if the travel ban remains to African countries.

Nigeria have sacked their manager. Think that means Dennis is more likely to be called up.

Oh, ****. Wasn't calling Dennis up one of the things supposedly attributed to the new prospective manager being touted last month when it was first rumoured? It's all coming up very much the opposite of Milhouse.

Sarr crippled and Dennis going to AFCON? Definitely time to hit the Deulofeu panic button.

And unless the new manager turns out to be Steve McClaren or Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, far more likely that Captain Troost-Ekong won't be called up!!!!

I don't think it will go ahead or clubs will kick up a fuss and try not to release players.

That's the double-whammy isn't it? They take Dennis and leave us with WTE.

Can we not send WTE pretending to be Dennis? Maybe the new head coach hasn’t met WTE yet?

Sky Sports have announced they have purchased broadcasting rights to all 52 games - so I imagine there will be a financial pressure to keep the tournament going now rather than cancelling it.

Lot of chat going round on the footballing interwebs that it's being postponed indefinitely this morning, although Cameroon's head of Comms 'Lux September' has denied it - hmmm.

How odd, I thought BBC had the rights but turns out they only have the rights to 10 of the games (inc the final), that's disappointing.

Isn’t this likely to be Covid impacted with many players based in Europe?

Gino knew AFCON would be cancelled, and loaded our squad with African talent at a discount with other clubs assuming they’d be missing for a month.

    Business done properly. Again.

Lets hope it's off otherwise I fear the worse as we could lose up to 10 players for January, and even if we bring in some new players I fear that could still prove fatal for our PL survival.

The Athletic's round up a month or two ago counted five, and that was including both Sarr and the potential (suddenly worryingly closer) of a Dennis call up. As it is, even if that happens it can't be more than four given Etebo's status, indeed.

There are actually more than ten WFC players who are eligible to play at AFCON, but some of them are youngsters who unlikely to be selected, there are also some out on loan and others are injured which means they would obviously not be available to play for us either.

Therefore the players we could well be without in January due to AFCON and injuries are: - Peter Etebo; Troost Ekong; Imran Louza; Adam Massina; Nicolas Nkoulou; Ismailia Sarr; Emmanuel Dennis; and this does not include our youngsters or those who are out on loan.

I would say that would leave a big hole in our squad don't you think.

Nobody is denying that the first teamers we are likely to lose will be a negative however people are criticising you for including the U23s/U18s in your numbers - as they simply aren't going to get called up for a major international tournament without playing a single minute of first team (or in some cases U23s!) football.
