No! Henman is on the Wimbledon Exec. This is dull old Hertfordshire. In any case I don't believe TH choked,he did brilliantly given his abilities to be # 4. Unlucky with the rain break v Goran and only in England would a tournament committee change the surface to hinder our best player ( helped Murray though). Would that every WFC employee 'choked' like Henman. CR failed last night, Woeful William as ever and poor old Kafka is not a magician. However we know who is culpable, pity they don't.
Against Burnley, pick WTE, put him in a Burnley shirt and tell him to play as if he was an opposition player. Watch every pass find a Watford player and every decision nullify a Burnley attack. We will then romp home at a canter.
Is the Coach and Horses the one on Kew Green, not far from the bridge? If so, I had birthday drinks there 32 years ago, and part of my stag do 16 years ago. There used to be a pub actually attached to the tube station. Has that gone?
He's only 22 and taking time to adjust to the PL but I've personally seen enough to think he'll fulfill his potential once he adapts. It was Troy who mentioned the £50m in relation to Nate, he was superb for us in the PL before his injury. Sadly, the injury changed everything for Chalobah.
JP can play on the right no probs, Dennis has also said he's happy to play anywhere across the front 3 although given he's our biggest goal threat it makes sense to play him where he'll be most dangerous.
We could easily turn a profit on Louza, eventually. I don't think anyone is disputing this. The question is whether buying a backup CM was the best use of extremely limited resources.
Yup, it was absolute madness not to spend that money on a centre back. Similar to when we spent the £30m that could've massively upgraded our defence on Sarr. Exactly the same mistake repeated again.
Will cost the club more in the long term. Bizarre decisions. I wonder how much Gino pays head coaches in relation to other EPL teams? He clearly expects them to overachieve
As little as possible I'd imagine! It's nigh on impossible to understand what Gino is thinking or planning. It's hard to get your head round a man who can pick up over £50m of attacking talent in Dennis and King for less than £5m and then allow us to regularly put out what is essentially a championship defence in the PL. Based on performances this season our 1st choice back 5 is arguably Foster Femenia Cathcart Nkoulou Masina (theoretically Kabasele and Sierralta are better options than Cathcart but they've yet to prove it this season). I wish we could start those 5 against Burnley but I'm also thinking: WTF Gino WTF !?!?!??!
I understood the change in all honesty. I think it was more to combat Brentford from throw-ins and set-pieces as they're quite physical and attack the ball well. That said, it went against us as Louza would've given us much more composure on the ball.
Some doughnut on here also spoke of Chalobah being a £50m player at back end of last season before he was promptly released. Can’t remember the offender. The drivel just washes over me these days. Last week someone claimed we had the 3rd best attack in the premier league
Sigh. King + Dennis would not be sold for £50m currently. Do you genuinely believe that if we tried to sell them both in January?
I can corroborate this, someone definitely said it on here as I remember the conversation. I remember arguing against it and laughing, never imagined for a second insisted of £50m, he’d in fact end up being given away for free instead though.
This is not realistic. A player 29 years old with 18 months left on his contract, who joined Watford on a free and previously joined Everton for a nominal fee is now with £15m after 5 goals (3 of which in one game).
You're entitled to your opinion and your logic is sound. However, I'd be disappointed if we sold him for that amount. £15m is half what United were willing to pay for him 2 years ago which sounds about right to me.
I think it’s even slightly early days to he saying we could get £40m for Dennis. Most clubs would probably want a bit more to go on before splashing out that sort of money, plenty of players like Papisse Cisse and Igahlo have looked incredible for a few months then disappeared off the face of the earth.
Arsenal were willing to pay £15m for him when he was unproven in the PL on the basis of his performances in Belgium and the CL. None of the big teams were willing to match Brugge's asking price of £25m. £25m is looking cheap now though . He's quick, has amazing technique, scores and assists and has incredible hunger and desire. I'd imagine some clubs would want to take a chance in him rather than miss out later on. But yes the big question is can he maintain it over the course of his career.
MOTD “Watford’s defence just seemed to dematerialise” Perfect summary and our players seem to have adopted it as this season’s mantra... What I saw (second half only), it was Div 1 defending at best. I still can’t believe what I was watching and I’ve had 24 hours to calm down. Rancid. Insipid. Amateur. Awful. If we don’t bounce back with a brighter display vs Burnley I fear for our season. CR can only do so much.
The Fullers pub at Kew Gardens station is still there. We used to go there sometimes back in the 90s when we lived down that way. It was a Firkin pub then.
Do you think the absence of Sarr likewise was a factor? Just watched the two Brentford goals and both originated on their left (for the first, their first attack led to a corner that wasn’t sufficiently cleared). Without Sarr to make them wary of attacking down that side, it made them more confident in chasing the game as Cucho doesn’t provide his level of threat.
I guess his pace on the counter attack might have been useful Yes we lost the ball three times before the penalty which is appalling at any level !
