OK. Another clue. One of the Carradines is involved - not grasshopper.

Agree kind of - but that was both his strength and weakness. At times it seemed like he was trying to run the show, doing whatever he could do to get us in the game against a team that had 26 shots and 77% possession, even back defending on one or two occasions, but he should have made his teammates more aware of his intentions (not easy in fairness when against a team of City's movement and passing accuracy most of the team has to be defending rather than attacking a lot of the time).

Completely Danny Rose's fault, poor touch, forcing him to a weak & pathetic clearance then just walks back when immediate danger is obvious. MOTM doesn't mean a flawless performance when you've lost 3-1 by the way, It was hardly a 10/10.

No, I agree, that's why I included this part:

But even when we were in the situation of fielding an attack that included Deulofeu and Sarr together that problem was still very evident, and these same players weren't doing this under the competition winner, so I'm really just saying it's something we now have to learn lessons from and keep in mind when it comes to any future appointments.

Don't agree with that, maybe the scoreline and the fact this wasn't a game on the big stage has influenced my judgement, and yes we could barely get a kick during the first half after they scored their second, but we were about equal on chances with more shots on target despite having less possession than in the final. At least we won a fair few corners and were more willing to stop them playing, whereas in the final we basically gave up towards the end. And yes, tonight City missed chances to make the losing margin bigger, but then so did they at Wembley.

Ranieri made the point that we were cautious and sat off them because if you commit then they pick you off. I'm a little dissapointed we didn't do what we did from the off v Chelsea. But yeah I might have erased how bad the cup final was from my memory.

I certainly have, I have never watched the game back on T.V., didn’t read the programme, and have never worn the special shirt again (of which I two bought one for the wife), as far as I am concerned we have only had one cup final and that was in 1984, the other one was a non event. Do others on here feel the same?

Like I said earlier, I don't know the details of Rose's mental health history but as someone with first hand experience of being a full on mentalist, it doesn't work that way. It's not like he'd have thought 'oh, I'm gonna go into a long term depression, eat terribly and lose motivation to do my job' when he signed.

The issue for me is that, as a club, our powers that be have seen this guy much closer than us but haven't seen any signs to take action to intervene and still thrust him into the pressure cooker of a premier league game.

If there are signs that idiots like us from the stands can see (for example, being a good 2 stone overweight at nearly halfway through a top flight season) then how are the coaches, fitness experts, tacticians and other professionals at the club just blithely watching him go about his day and thinking, 'it'll be fine, he used to play for Spurs innit.'

I've read a few comments on here about Danny Rose and it is true he had a poor game and against the better teams they set him up. Yesterday he caused himself and the team issues as he dropped off 3 to 5 yards in the thought it would give him a chance but in fact it was making it worse and the defence couldn't hold the line they wanted, in fact I was really surprised he wasn't hooked at half time. He still has ability against lesser teams but his fitness and pace appears to have gone at the highest level.

Where I would argue against others on here is his attitude. The other week against United he wasn't playing but he was fully supportive of the team throughout the match and at the end as well. He does have the right attitude to be around the squad even if he becomes only a squad player.

I really wish that negative and abusive comments about players are stopped, preferably by the posters rather than the monitors who seem to do nothing to change the culture that keeps people from taking a full part in this forum. Those comments are completely unnecessary so please think of others before posting.

Simply no excuse for Rose. This is what I was talking about last night - he’s played at higher levels in his career for a sustained period. There’s no way he doesn’t know exactly what he should be doing here - and I suspect if you put a Spurs or England on him, he’d have done it.

But he’s got a Watford shirt on against City - so why bother doing the absolute basics?

Look at my post immediately after yours with the screenshots - he may be ‘supportive’ of the team. But his attitude is rightfully being questioned - how else can you explain him just watching Sterling jog past him into the box? It was literally minutes into the game and showed total neglect of the absolute basics of his role.

If a player plays badly or is unprofessional (which Rose is right now, whether it’s on purpose or something deeper), then it comes with the territory for him to get negative feedback on that.

You're right. Theres 3 conjoining points though.

Is he good enough, is he mentally fit enough, is he physically fit enough?

Is it his or the clubs responsibility for his or any players poor performance? How should it be managed?

If its ok to call his performances crap or abysmal or Sunday league, what level of name calling and accusations or abuse is ok and what is not ok?

And then at the end of the day, who have we got fit that is better?

I was annoyed initially that we didn’t start like we did against Chelsea, but then hearing Ranieri’s interview it’s actually pleasing to hear a coach who actually has a plan, he had a plan for Chelsea and it almost and probably should’ve worked, and he had a different plan for City, and ok it didn’t work, but in actual fact it may well have worked if it wasn’t for yet more individually disgusting defensive displays, that he cannot possibly legislate for.

It’s just nice to have coach that can think about what we should do, think about what the opposition might do, and then also think about how he can change it if it’s not working.

Yeah it's really poor, he can see everything in front of him and makes no effort to get in and cover. I know Sterling is freakishly quick and I don't expect Rose to keep up with him but come on man, at least try and get in there and block him off. In the second half Sterling was running at Cathcart 1v1 and even Craig managed to hold him up.

I'm getting tired of reading all the negatives. Yes we could of got humiliated but we didn't!
The encouraging signs for me was we kept at it and our heads never dropped. So all in all it's encouraging.
Hopefully now we can start a little run against teams in and around us. Plus back Ranieri in the market come January. It's not all doom and gloom.

    I’m never too good at picking up the words to songs / chants, but are you talking about this one;

    Ruben Diaz, our number 3
He cost us millions, around 60
    We’ve bought the cup,
    we’ve bought the league,
    We’ve paid off FIFA
    We’re ******* cheats.

Your last paragraph l agree with.
Only a blind person can't see that there is a serious problem with Rose.
You say that you have experience in mental health field. You will know that some people are very clever at hiding any issues or simply will not admit to a problem.
I accept that being grossly overweight as a professional footballer cannot be hidden.
So why aren't Watford addressing the issues? It's December and he is still totally unfit and he looks vacant on the pitch.
Spurs and Newcastle knew of these issues and they appear to still be with him.
You will know that once you've had a breakdown of soughts, you become much more aware of the signs that could lead to another breakdown. You are rarely the same person as before.
Everyone watching yesterday, on their TV, at the ground and in the TV studio noticed something wrong. The pundits were amazed that he stayed on the pitch.
I also agree what you say about the contract signing. Did Watford do their due diligence on Rose? If the public knew of his issues, then Watford either ignored it or weren't bothered.
I hope he seeks help as he clearly does not want to be on the pitch.
    Goid luck to him.

I don’t think it’s a question not of doing our DD, it’s our transfer policy. They know the problems he had previously but decided to sign him anyway and hope for the best. As I said in his dedicated thread, I don’t have too much of an issue with that because it is what it is in terms of our budget, and it’s the same strategy that got us Dennis, but I think it’s more we actively seek out players like Rose that are damaged goods and hope to turn them around, rather than it being a question of failing to spot the issue in the first place. Having an issue with that type of transfer policy is a different debate entirely or course.
