I saw them, live, in Leicester. 1967/8. I vaguely remember not being all that impressed/wasn't fond of their music. There was an electric violin in there I think, which didn't help.
He's our top scorer, however. But surely could be better, as has been much discussed (certainly by me for a long time). Needs coaching, etc....
Agree with this. It could be a blessing in disguise for the club and him personally. He has looked off the pace for a while and the two penalty misses and overall lack of effort in games was pulling the side down almost as their main outlet. A good rest and a talk from Uncle Claude could be just what he needs to re-ignite his season, right before his move to Newcastle in January.
Certainly more concerned about Nkoulou; the drop from having him as the senior dragging up Cathcart to Cathcarthorse being led astray by WTE is seismic - it hardly bears thinking about, and as Burnsy has already said in here and plenty of us have been continuously saying, it exposes just how poor and not-fit-for-purpose our defensive lineup is, and how one desperate (good) free transfer has not magically solved that. We literally need reinforcement walking through the London Colney door, glass of champers in hand, at 0001GMT on January 1st.
In fairness, the way you presented the information gave no indication whatsoever that you were claiming it was privileged, and that you had been told it by someone who you had some reasonable expectation of possessing insider knowledge - you said you 'heard it on the rumour mill' and 'not on the internet'. What the **** is anyone supposed to do with that? Seems purposefully obtuse to present it like that and then come back swinging about not being judged as ITK as you are then claiming to be, to be honest
It is a very long time since we have done anything but lose in Leicester. We've lost the last three games 2-0 and the one before that 3-0. In our first season back in the EPL we did score but still lost 2-1. Someone should write a book or a film "Lost in Leicester". It could let the world know that we have something in common with Richard III. Thinking about it like Richard III we don't have a horse. Something else we have in common.
Nkoulou being injured already is an absolute f**king disaster. That's far and away our two best centre backs both crocked at the same time.
As frustrating as Sarr is he still adds a fear factor to our attack. I think him being out just means teams can double up on Dennis now.
Not sure why anybody is concerned about Nkoulou and Sarr being injured. We were reliably informed by FTRE and AL before the season started that CB was an area of real strength and depth, especially when you consider that Masina is so versatile and could operate as a third CB if needed. I mean, we had SO much depth at the position, we didn’t even have to sign Nkoulou until unforeseen, and entirely unpredictable circumstances, left us short. Thankfully, crafty Pozzo had an upgrade waiting to be signed, a mere 3 weeks from full fitness, and we’d managed to avoid paying unnecessary money through the first 8 games when he wasn’t needed (despite our defensive woes). In addition, we signed Morris from Southampton U23’s this summer, so we’ve also got plenty of depth at the LB spot if Masina moves inside.
People being unconcerned about a serious Sarr injury is similar to the divot who thought losing to Villa in the last minute in the relegation season was a positive as "it would be a reality check for the team".
I can only think that with Sarr they need the inflammation to go down to decide whether he needs an operation or not. It might be it will heal with rest, let's hope it's short term.
I think the reason people are less fussed is likely because, despite the goals, Sarr has been frequently underwhelming and lazy, and we have Dennis and King both performing generally well. We then have two good players in Pedro and Cucho ready to step in, even if they aren't going to offer quite what Sarr can. Nkoulou, on the other hand, is lightyears ahead of any of our other defenders and a bigger miss right now, in my opinion.
Wonder whether Nkoulou's injury is down to him not having played any football for five months then being rushed into playing for us without his equivalent of a pre-season? Had a quick look at his injury history on a website and showed that he'd only had one injury and one bout of sickness in the last six years.
Not sure what was wrong with that statement - it was a reality check and a reminder that despite our great form before that match there are no easy games for us in the Premier League. It would've been a positive if we hadn't picked up only one away point from less than stellar opponents Brighton, Palace, Burnley and West Ham, thus condemning us to relegation (in fairness having Sarr and then Deulofeu out for all those games didn't help).
It was utter idiocy. The most stupid thing ever posted on the internet. A 3 point swing to the ultimate relegation rival. And the goal that would send us down all things being equal. Whoever posted that was a moron of the highest order. I don’t remember it being you but maybe
WTE and Cathcarthorse playing!! Two very poor defenders. One is Championship level, the other is League one. I fear the worst, but hope for the best.
I didn't post anything like that, for one thing I avoided the Villa match thread as I often do after a miserable defeat and only read a few posts on it some time afterwards. But Villa themselves lost to us and Bournemouth and still stayed up (they got 7 points from their next 4 games after their 3-0 defeat, including the win against us) so sometimes losing to a relegation rival can be the kick up the ar5e your team needs to make them up their game and remind them they still have work to do to stay up. I haven't seen the post you refer to, but maybe the problem was the way it was put and the timing?
No. It was moronic. Suggest we leave it as seems a complete waste of the weekend to debate a post you didn’t even read.
Hopeful Sarr will be back soon. Make no mistake, we are down if he misses a lot of the season. He’s our best player regardless of this weird narrative that he’s struggling. Like people expect him to single handedly win every match and anything less is failure. Optimistically he seems to be a superhuman in terms of fitness, this is his first injury of any kind at Watford. He did limp off the pitch so can’t be a serious cruciate injury at least.
Apart from his hamstring injury that kept him out of the team for three games in 2019/20, during which his absence turned out to be fatal to our survival.
I don't think we're down if he's out for any sustained length of time at all, and that's not to put shade on him at all (as it's become fashionable on here to do), as it would certainly be a blow, but merely a reflection that we have more depth in the forward areas than before
There's nothing weird about this - overall he clearly is, it's fairly undeniable. We still can and do recognise when he's capable of good, but his overall game contribution has been severely lacking and he's playing within himself - he has been all the season. I don't really get the need to childishly misrepresent that as some kind of ludicrous magic expectation not being fulfilled - especially when you're apparently incapable of even recognising anything about his performance over a sample of 12 full games other than 'HE SCORES GOALS (sometimes), HE'S DA BESTEST'.
I think his form has been a bit patchy recently, and he's looked a bit low in confidence. But just his mere presence on the pitch causes every side, even Liverpool and City to make plans to deal with him. Without him I feel like we're likely to be even more defensively fragile. Still it's a good opportunity for Cucho or Pedro to stake a claim, so compared to Gerri's injury we're probably in a better position to cope
We'll have no more of this defeatist talk, no wonder we we lost an empire, such surrenderism is quite beyond the pale. Remember... "'If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.' Tally-ho!
couldn’t agree more, we are great anybody that can’t see this is clearly a toss pot I really see very little reason to believe we are out the European places yet
