Looking at prices for other arenas the cheapest tickets are likely to be £150-ish each. I'll give this a miss.

As ever, the registration process already presented an issue. We have 3 season tickets, all tied to one email address, but the registration form won't allow you to enter the same address for more than one Fan ID. The club email says that they need the Fan ID and the correct email associated with it for ID purposes.

I am sure there is going to be a usual, stressful nightmare clamour for tickets now and it's all going to be horrible.

I work in the music industry and it’s something that we have always pushed upon ticket sites etc - that these places know the ticket prices and dates well in advance of them going on sale…but rarely, if ever, show the prices until they go on sale and normally only give a weeks (and sometimes just a few days) notice. Expecting people to suddenly have £100’s of spare funds is really quite unethical, along with all the other practices they fudge.

So, you register on the link in the email, which tells you that you are entered into a ballot for a code for presale, which means you might not get one. If you do get a code, presale doesn't guarantee you can buy tickets (presale is also for SEJ fan club members, the Rocket Club). But with tickets not being cheap*, will many ST ticket holders be bothered anyway?

    * If you look at the Swansea gig, the cheapest tickets are at the sides of the ground at £129.50 which means restricted view, but don't forget to add on another £30+ for 'processing fees' (Don't get me started on that rip-off practice!). There are 'package' tickets available at the back of the ground for £300+ and if you want to sit right at the front, £1,200 is the official price . Still, no doubt you get an exclusive lanyard and other such tat in a SEJ paper bag, so that's alright then.

With all that in mind, perhaps Elton is planning to buy us Mbappe with the proceeds of the two gigs at The Vic...

Having researched what you get for a top-price ticket, £1,200, this is the list, complete with unnecessary capitalisation of every word

So, as I thought, essentially a bag of tat, a seat at the front and free food & drink. You don't even get to meet SEJ but you can sit at his piano. Well worth £1,200 (cough). still, there must be some people out there willing to pay!

I love him for what he's done for our club, but real talk: he's got about 5 good songs.

Tickets available in May in Oslo for 65 quid.. tenner each way flight with that Irish airline. Hotel for around 50 quid if you shop around. If it really is £150 at Vic Road you'll save money by travelling to Norway!

I still love his early stuff, but he doesn't sound anything like that now so I won't be shelling out all that dosh to see him again.

He won’t do this to us. He loves this club and fans and I would expect the tickets to be at cost, perhaps even lower.

Again, working in the industry, I’ve asked around some contacts this morning - been told tickets ‘won’t be £150 and will start much lower than that’.

    Fingers crossed.

Also told additional date(s) may well be added if demand is there.

People will pay it though. I fancied going to see the Swedish House Mafia comeback tour but couldn’t believe the £150+ for floor tickets, surely people would see through it and not pay that sort of money to see 3 blokes playing music off their laptop?

Sold out in 2 minutes worldwide.

Oh of course they will pay it. In one of my past roles, I was a tour producer - some of the utter sh*t I produced went around the world with barely a seat unsold - and those people paid handsomely to watch it. (I have never been involved with price setting, I will say that!)

Ha! True. Though I've noticed prices here havent gone up as much as the UK in recent times. You can get a beer (0.5ltr) locally to me for about a fiver these days.. though it can cost a fair bit more and would do in Oslo, unless you went to a proper dive bar.

Don't qualify for the priority tickets for this but going to try and get one in general sale.

I imagine general sale tickets will be a nightmare to get.

Love him to bits for what he's done for the club and much of his music but he was "past his use-by date" in 2010, god knows what shape he will be in in 2022. The equivalent to going to TringFest to have a giggle at how those 80s bands look today. Except it's Elton so it would be sad rather than funny. Prefer to remember him as a performer at his peak not at 75 so it's not one for me.

I saw him in Las Vegas in 2019. It was a good show, still great on piano but he doesn’t have the same power in his voice any more, and obviously not as much energy around the stage. Still good though.

Well, you're obviously not getting the best quality 80s artists, then. A show here a couple of years ago had ABC, Mark Almond, Billy Ocean, OMD and Human League. All were quite superb and I would say Almond, Ocean and OMD actually sounded better than they did back then.

The list is pretty much the same so we shall see next summer. Note I said "look" rather than "sound" though I'd be surprised if they genuinely sound better in their 60s and 70s than they did in their 20s and 30s.

  22. Keighley

    Keighley First Team

Well, I noted you said "look" but who goes to a concert to "look" at a band/artist? Except, perhaps SEJ in his pomp.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised although I daresay that they do have more frequent bad days now than they used to do. On the other hand, sound quality has probably improved. Billy Ocean was the revelation, not really a fan but his set was excellent.

A mate has also reported that Heaven 17, touring 'Penthouse and Pavement' were top draw/drawer.

OK I hope to be pleasantly surprised next summer !
ps I think everyone who goes to a concert goes to "look" at the band, otherwise you might as well just put your iphone on full blast at home and shut your eyes but let's not start one of our infamous 15 post arguments :).

  24. Keighley

Well, they do but that's not the primary reason, just as 'looking' at WTE or the Cycling GK isn't the main reason you go to the Vic.

Phil Oakey has lost his luxuriant locks.

Well least they have gone early with selling tickets so got time to sort out the issues that will no doubt occur!

Bad analogy ! Looking at the players perform is exactly the reason you go to the Vic when you could just listen to the commentary remotely. Watching how a band/act performs is a massive part of attending a pop concert, it's not just about the quality of the noise which will never been as good as the heavily produced original recording anyway. Watching a bunch of 60/70 year olds move around a stage like sloths would certainly put a dampener on the evening for me but we are already 3 or 4 posts into our usual debates so I agree with you 100% :).
ps Gutted to hear Oakey now looks like a guy.

It can cost you £80 to see the Human League on their current tour, so £150 seems about right to see Elton squelching and burping out his hits....

    ...I've still signed up though.

Is it? I go for the collective live experience of being in a crowd.

Can you really watch how a band performs if you are in an audience of thousands, some way from the stage?

  31. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

If you just love the "collective live experience of being in a crowd", I recommend you pop into London tomorrow for a bit of Black Friday shopping.
You don't think it matters how the act looks and performs on stage, I do. We clearly disagree, and that's fine.

Well that's not what I said at all, is it? I said that wasn't my main reason for going to a live concert or sporting fixture. As for the first sentence, well that is just a plainly daft analogy.

Anyway, I do agree - to get this back on track - that it's probably not worth forking out vast sums to attend an SEJ concert at this late stage. Either visually or aurally.
