The players hated Jose, so ran around for Ole long enough for him to get the job. That never, ever lasts though, but it lasted just about long enough for him to get the job full time. It’s what you see happen with the vast majority of caretaker managers, but their lack of tactical know how always catches up with them. Given his record prior, it was daft the powers that be at Utd believed there could be any other outcome, or perhaps it was just blind hope.

Don't blame him, he must have taken one look at Louza in training and thought 'I don't fancy that!' ;)

Ole didn’t get sacked solely because of the Watford result. He had clearly lost the confidence of the players, who had been putting in embarrassing performances for some time now. I am a little miffed that sports journalists and pundits are overplaying the embarrassment or humiliation about losing to lowly Watford. Watford tactically exploited the Utd malaise and targeted particular players and got the deserved rewards. We have a team with current and former internationals who worked to a plan and tried very hard. Our record against Utd has been ok in recent times, unlike our record against their near neighbours. Utd are a soap opera of a club, and we have an extra’s part occasionally.

Without their bright start Man Utd would be in a relegation battle, in the 20+ years I've been a football fan I don't remember a sequence of results as bad as the one they've had in all competitions since they beat Newcastle 4-1 back in early September:

    14/09/2021 (Champions League) Young Boys (a) 1-2
    19/09/2021 West Ham (a) 2-1
    22/09/2021 (League Cup) West Ham (h) 0-1
    25/09/2021 Aston Villa (h) 0-1
    29/09/2021 (Champions League) Villareal (h) 2-1
    02/10/2021 Everton (h) 1-1
    16/10/2021 Leicester (a) 2-4
    20/10/2021 (Champions League) Atalanta (h) 3-2
    24/10/2021 Liverpool (h) 0-5
    30/10/2021 Tottenham (a) 3-0
    02/11/2021 (Champions League) Atalanta (a) 2-2
    06/11/2021 Manchester City (h) 0-2
    20/11/2021 Watford (a) 1-4

That's P13 W4 D2 L7 F17 A26. Just one clean sheet in that run and two all season - shocking. And even in the Champions League where they are top of their group and Ronaldo seems to be in his best form they haven't been convincing.

No, I like this. It puts pressure on clubs bigger than Watford when they play us. If we are well set up by the coach and play well we can surprise the opposition so they panic when they realise it’s not going to be that easy. Only the real top teams can overcome this.

How many points can you see us getting from the next three games?

    Leicester A
    Chelsea A
    Citee H

I think Leicester (on paper) is the easier of the games, Chelsea are blowing everyone away and, well Citee. I think we'll beat Leicester next week personally.

I think like with Everton and United there is unlikely to be a better time for us to have the chance.

Edit. Though i still see 3 defeats

Talking of Everton. Moshiri has spunked about £500,000,000 of his own money on Everton and they are currently two points above relative paupers Watford. He must be ecstatic (or severely deluded). I think he has been mugged off on a grand scale.

Leicester have actually been worse at home than away in recent times, as I understand it, and are in maybe the biggest rut they've been in under Brodge - they're still a better team with better players than us, though, and as TomWatford has already put it, we never ever 'capitalise', whatever the situation.

So, with that in mind, my heart says an absolute maximum of three, a relatively possible hope of one, and an also possible zero. I genuinely don't think we should be viewing this Leicester side at this exact moment as 'one of the five' in this crazy run, though; rather another team who on paper should beat us, but may just be exploitable enough if we manage to lift ourselves extraordinarily/carry out a game-plan to perfection.

Looking back at our results since QSF took over the first time, here are all our wins against the big 6 and the result in the next game:

    Watford 3 - 0 Liverpool
    Chelsea 2 - 2 Watford

    Arsenal 1 - 2 Watford (FA Cup)
    Watford 1 - 2 Stoke

    Watford 3 - 1 Man United
    Burnley 2 - 0 Watford

    Arsenal 1 - 2 Watford
Watford 2 - 1 Burnley (We actually won!)

    Watford 2 - 1 Arsenal
    Chelsea 4 - 2 Watford

    Watford 4 - 1 Chelsea
    West Ham 2 - 0 Watford

    Watford 2 - 1 Tottenham
    Watford 1 - 2 Man United

    Watford 2 - 0 Man United
    Sheffield United 1 - 1 Watford

    Watford 3 - 0 Liverpool
    Crystal Palace 1 - 0 Watford

    Watford 4 - 1 Man United
    Leicester ? - ? Watford

So we have only followed up one win against the big six with another win since the start of the 15/16 season, and that was against Burnely who played 84 minutes with 10 men!

Fairly impressive to follow up that Liverpool thrashing with a draw away at Chelsea back in 2015, at least!

It was (I was there and it was a cracking game in which we came from behind to draw 2-2 in Hiddink's first match at Chelsea, far better than most of our subsequent away games under QSF that season) though with the qualification that Chelsea were underachieving incredibly (they were "defending" champions) and ended up winning only five games at home in the Prem.

I think we may well get a point at Leicester, but I would not rule out a possible win. As for the other two games I don't expect anything, but I have a feeling we might actually scrape a point against at least one of them.

Therefore on that basis we could easily end up with zero points or at the very best though probably very unlikely 5 points.

It’s time the media stopped referring to the ‘Big 6’. Three of them are miles behind the others.

Yes, but he is, I think, not a bad coach. He did well keeping Newcastle up, as well as Rafa I think, despite what their crappy fans thought.
So, we don't want that, do we?
I'm all for a long period of second-rated-ness for Man U.

Back up the table we go. Interestingly the table I've just looked at has put us above Villa, whereas yesterday it put us below them!?!

Edit: Looked at the rules for clarification, they are as follows:

If any clubs finish with the same number of points, their position in the Premier League table is determined by goal difference, then the number of goals scored. If the teams still cannot be separated, they will be awarded the same position in the table.

So us and Villa are both 15th as it stands.

    Good point. I graciously concede.
I don’t think we will get any points from these three games. Any slim chance of picking up anything will be v Leicester, but you never know. If we get three wins in these games, we will survive relegation!!!
