I wasn’t aware of that, but yes there was. 5.1 on IMDB

I’m not sure the concept is wrong though (even if this film looks awful). All horror films subvert some familiar setting or other to make it a place of terror. And though kids TV in the 70s and 80s was often fab, it had clearly had its darker side too.

But Scooby Doo shouldn’t be made into a slasher as that series was primarily devised to produce a cartoon that was less violent for children. FACT. And they’d have gotten away with it if it wasn’t….etc.

Whilst The Sweet's 'Blockbuster' (see earlier) is the tune that reminds me of my childhood, my earliest music memory is this. We had to do 'free movement' to it at primary school for exercise! Pretending to be albatrosses or something.

 

Ah, yes, the REAL Fleetwood Mac....

The iconic song that blew it all open that I can remember was 'She Loves You'...although I was only just 7 at the time, the impact it had was incredible.

Fast forward to 1968 and I can recall the sheer buzz and excitement when they showed the filmed clip of the Stones doing 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' on TOTP....
A few months later I realised things were changing for me when, to my horror, my Dad got up and turned off the TV whilst we were watching the Doors doing 'Hello I Love You' on TOTP, informing us he was not willing to watch 'that sort of bloke peddling that sort of stuff' in his house. Conversations between us were progressively less frequent from then on.

 

School kids of that age couldn’t also help but love The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and ‘Fire’ and its complete opposite ‘Sugar Sugar’ by the Archies with the cartoon video.

I found Arthur Brown a little scary when I was six, but did like the tune.

 

A man with his head on fire. What's not to like? Perhaps Ed Sheeran should give it a go. Might cheer him up.

 

Still burning his bonce in 2017 on tour with Alice Cooper.

 

I found Sugar Sugar truly vomit-inducing, even at just 13....interestingly one of the main players in 'The Crazy World....' was Vincent Crane who went on to found Atomic Rooster...no doubt their album 'Death Walks Behind You' owed a lot to the paranoia caused by a bloke with a brazier on his head prancing around you as you played the keyboards.

 

Other Holiday Favourite - The Flashing Blade

 

Never thought it was possible to recommend a Channel Five programme, but its series ‘The Greatest Hits of 1970/1/2’ etc is actually quite entertaining. The talking heads range from good like John Robb or David Grant to awful and the clips are clearly budget limited, but it still provides a few little known facts and some reminders of epic music.

Featured ‘Stoned Love’ last week. What a fantastic song.
