So we won there in the FA Cup in February 1986 and then in the league the following month. I'd forgotten it was the 2nd replay...god 2nd replay...how times have changed.

I remember the first game at Maine Road, they scored with a diving header and Kenny Jackett equalised from the spot.

Sorry Mate, We always thought you were stuck up your own arse to be honest. Anyway no hard feelings we've moved over to the Elton John now. Much better clientele in the SEJ, tbf.

Multiple replays is not the only thing that has changed since those days. There was a big freeze that winter and the 2nd replay was played in bitingly cold conditions. A friend and I drove up a completely snow covered M6 to get there. The game was only on thanks to City’s undersoil heating. Ironically there had been a brief thaw that coincided with the first replay which was played on a mud bath at Vicarage Road.

You went to an away game at Maine Road when you were only 5 or 6??

I wish, it was a featured game on MOTD - I think it's on YT.

My first away game was Shrewsbury, we drew 1-1, I was 9.

Yer, it was quite a difficult manoeuver but I managed it. Don't worry, those issues that afflicted you should still allow you to lead a relatively normal life. Good luck with that.

GT always had a good word for him when he was England manager and Walter was in charge of Rangers, who had 3 England players: Woods, Butcher, and Steven, playing for them. They would always be released for international duty with no argy-bargy unlike other club managers at the time.

No I didn't. Perhaps we'll draw them away in the FA Cup now. That would please one of my brother's mates who's a big Bantams fan. They really don't like Dirty Leeds.

Tough tie v Exeter first up next week for them.

    Who does like Leeds!?

Bradford are a club really in the doldrums but still get pretty decent crowds.

Speaking of FA Cup and Man City I remember playing them mid-week in 1997 (must have been re-arranged) and we lost 3-1 with Steve Palmer of all people being sent off for violent conduct (think it was a little slap tbh!)

I was going to say we seem to do better against them in the FA Cup against them (2 up losing 4-2 and a creditable performance in a 3-0 defeat) than in the League but then remembered...and quickly forgot you know what!

As for v-blogs - each to their own but it does set you up to be laughed at.

    Here it is:

Also, unusually in the Man City archives is brief highlights of us beating them at home in the 1988/89 season with Iwan Roberts up front and the fantastic Glyn Hodges in the side:

Cheers - ok it maybe was more than a slap!

Such a shame GNW was hit by injury as that goal showed his quality and ability at such a young age.

Yep indeed. Arsenal were always sniffing round him so we might not have had him for as long as we did but that thug Paul Butler saw to that.

Remember his partnership with Wayne Andrews when there was almost nobody else to play up front. Wayne ended his career at Luton. This final ignominy must have shamed him into retirement.

The commentary of the cup game refers to Watford as a "second division side" but it's worth noting that that was the third tier at that time. The reason the game was played midweek was that the FA Cup schedule had been heavily affected that year by bad weather. Does anyone remember the saga of our 3rd round tie with Oxford that season? The game was postponed twice, the second time just before kick-off with everyone in the ground. We all had to wait in the cold while the club distributed vouchers as we left to enable entry to the rearranged game. When that was eventually played there was a floodlight failure! Would the game ever be finished? On the night an Oxford fan who was an electrician came forward and fixed the problem, only to see his team knocked out.

I remember that, Devon White scored...wasn't it the week before or was it the same game he tried an overhead kick and missed the ball?

Forgiving as ever, Watford fans only laughed for 10 minutes.

    WWtW - remember it well.

Was a good win eventually then !

Yes they were quick with the vouchers - wonder if they knew the first effort to play the re -arranged game might be called off late on ?

In what world is Cathcart rarely injured? He’s had numerous significant spells out. Compared to someone like Mariappa he is unavailable far more.

Has been less injury prone in the last couple of seasons but did have that period where he seemed to be out a lot and had a long period with a knee injury which the club sent him here and there to be treated a few seasons back ( under Walter and Silva)

I remember the lights coming on pylon by pylon and everyone holding their breath that it wouldn't trip during the process. Bloody cold nights. There was also that Burnley game during GTs second spell that got called off just before the actual kick-off when the mother of all deluges hit the ground and made a game impossible.

We were a 2nd Div side at the time. If memory serves me, when the Prem was formed, they called the leagues below 1st Div, 2nd Div and 3rd Div. They rebranded/renamed and The Championship came into being early 2000's I reckon and we then got what we know today and 2nd Div became League 1, clear as mud.

That's a great video. I loved Dennis' antics during the celebrations for his goal. He's really got something about him. Let him have first pick of whichever seat he fancies on every coach trip...just keep him happy!!

Bloody ridiculous that the second tier is called "The championship" and the 3rd tier is called "league 1" rather than "League 3".

TUT, I just have a slight suspicion that you probably aren't a big fan of the naming of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League either. How on earth did the wonderful UEFA bigwigs manage to come up with that lot? Clear as ****ing mud o_O
