I fully agree, but I still think the club did the right thing in giving Xisco a chance. He more than earned his throw of the dice in the Premiership, even though it did turn out to be Snake Eyes. He failed, we all knew he was out of his depth (I think he did too), but he hasn't left us rock bottom. Claudio is working off 7pts from 7 games - as PPG stands, that's "just" on track for survival. However, I am under no illusions due to our next awful run of fixtures, we will be playing catch up at least till after Xmas - unless we get some very good results.

It probably is, but the standard is improving every season and will continue to improve. I'm not sure this squad should be expected to finish above 3 other teams in this league.

I get what you're saying but for me, it was never about 'earning' it - it was always clear that what has subsequently happened was going to happen under him, and so earning it would have to mean he'd earned the right to have a play about at the top level regardless of being literally unqualified at the expense of the club, and to me no one is in a position to earn that. That's not how you run a successful club, in reality.

As many have said by this point, including myself, the problem this time was purely one of being too sentimental, at the worst time for sentiment.

You're right in that we're lucky the disastrous experiment didn't leave us with 1 for 2 points instead of 7; I said that exact thing myself in a post earlier in (presumably) this very thread. But also, as you say, that is really just a measure of how bad it was/got, and we really needed several more points than that to weather the storm that is coming in this next set of fixtures.

To be fair, I didn't necessarily mean that we needed to just accept relegation. Its just my opinion that the right approach is to try and stay up by spending as little as possible, so if we do end up gettimg relegated the club are still in a healthy and stable position. This has evidently been what Gino is trying to do. I think the board know that there is a strong possibility of relegation. Although I don't think we have accepted relegation, I actually think some of our buisnees has been quite good considering our budget. Are there free transfers out there that significantly improve our side? who would accept a reasonable wage? Genuine question. Agreed we could have signed another centre back in the summer, the club obviously thought we had enough in that area, they were not to know that we would pick up injuries. I assume we only signed Nkolou becaue of injuries.

I kind of agree with you regarding Xisco but arguably the competition winner did get us promoted.

But come on man, we all knew at the time that we didn't, and the idea that you'd embark on a plan for survival that literally relied on none of your defenders sustaining any serious injuries throughout an entire season is insane - genuine profligacy. We also knew that of our first choice defenders, one had never played at the level before and the other would be guaranteed to leave us for a time covering at least several games in the tight-enough-as-it-is post-Christmas/January period, alongside it being rather questionable as to whether he would be able to make the step-up having witnessed all sides of his game over the previous year in them first place.

To add to that, we (as in everyone ever who's watched them in several recent years) knew that neither of the backups were acceptable players to be playing at Premier League level at this point in their careers - they couldn't even get into a Championship team last season, for god's sake. If they would have claimed to have thought we had enough in that area, and that they couldn't have known injuries would happen and affect a squad that voluntarily went into the season two senior players lighter than it could/should have been, then they were demonstrably wrong, and the claim makes them look very stupid.

Agreed, which is a clear sign for me that the number one priority this season for The Pozzo's and the board is reducing the debt. Seems to me that they are content enough about relegation as long as the bank balance looks more reasonable.

  7. Chumlax

Fairplay, I think that's stupid and/or wrong, but it's perfectly possible that you may be correct.

I do think dismissing Xisco at this juncture takes us a step towards that being less the case; I was very worried they would hang on dementedly as Leventhal was cheerleading for until about half an hour after he was fired, but then again, even if you are sanguine about relegation there's still quite possibly only so far you can sink in terms of performance trends before it's too embarrassing not to act.

Could be right. At the start of the season I give us no hope of staying up. Leaving Leeds the other week as drunk as I was, my thoughts were we could be in with a chance if we bring in a better manager. Mainly because as **** as we have been we somehow have 7 points and other teams look no better. I was relieved and unsurprised when he was sacked in the morning.

I think the idea is that IF we go down, for the club to not be in as bad shape as it was last time with players wanting out all over the first XI. But it is in no way the plan for the club to go down.

If we go down, the season will be seen as a failure. Just not an abject one like 2 years ago.

They really didn’t Skyla. I think his smiley, happy disposition fooled a number of people. But the stark reality is that you need to be well-qualified or experienced to coach in the PL these days. Xisco was a disaster waiting to happen and should never have been given the chance. And I say this as someone who voiced their scepticism but ultimately felt he should be given a chance. I was very wrong.

True. I think after 65 mins against Villa we all thought the same. A false dawn - but his lack of a tactical plan against some of the best coaches in the world was shown up - even Graham Potter out classed him.

No the plan is not relegation, that would be daft. The plan is to reduce the clubs debt, unfortunately this means it will be extremely challenging to stay up.

442 did not work, but at least he changed it back to 433 and we did improve a little.

A bit like Brighton then, the original plan emphatically didn't work, we did look better when we changed it up, but we could hardly look worse, and the opposition had taken their foot off the gas by then

Granted we were always up against it, but 3 at the back when we have two fit centre-backs who are, to put it lightly, no great shakes, and a left-back who's not good enough for this league in any position was always a puzzler. Again, it's hard to keep the ball against a team like Liverpool at the best of times, but when we got the ball, all we did was hoof it forward with nobody to hold the ball up, absolutely bread and butter for their CBs. Hopefully now wirh the fixture list and injuries we have for the next few weeks, that's enough experimenting and we start playing to our strengths again

I suspect the Pozzos would have hoped for a better performance but really cannot judge Ranieri on that.

That may be true amongst people you know but we live in a diverse society. In my view people who are uncomfortable talking about it are unlikely to be very good at doing it.

Some people like to talk. Some people like to do. In my view anyone who talks about "body count" as though it's something important, or a way to impress others, is likely to suffer from a low IQ and be attempting to compensate for an inferiority complex, but as you say we live in a diverse society.

The origin of this conversation was Steel City Moose claiming I am unsuccessful with women due to not flossing !! I merely responded with a statistic. I actually thought some people would be calling me out on my number being low. I didn't realise the forum was such a haven for shrinking violets. I dont think its bragging to reveal your number in response to someone you've never met making up horse$h1t about your personal life. Also as I've said before I don't consider my number to be that high so I don't consider it to be bragging. Regarding your point on bedroom skills, I get really good feedback from the horses mouth about 80% of the time. Which I'm very happy about.

Apparently according to the watford observer ranieri knows sarr is our best player so 1st game plays him out of position and against van dik ,baffling and when we went back to 433 and sarr on the wing we did a bit better ,makes you wonder if we would of done any better with munoz

Well, with Munoz, he was making bizarre calls on the regular, 3 at the back at least made theoretical sense, even though in practice it was a shambles. I'm not going to chastise Ranieri after one game, let's hope he doesn't try to be too smart in future!

What did concern me was that he apparently told the players to press (a la his Sampdoria team who were successful in their fight against relegation) yet we did the exact opposite...

Ha - yes that was stating the obvious but my point was will he be judged on that - or is it fair to?

Certainly might have learnt a thing or two and does seem to be pretty cross about the performance (in the WO at least) rather then trying to say it wasn't that bad like Munoz did.

You can be fat due to mental issues and certain diseases. But for most there is no excuse to be fat. It does however involve self control which is something many do not exercise. Or responsibility. Considering the burden being obese places on medical services with all the elevated risk factors for multiple diseases. Government is responsible too. For not acting to ban advertising of unhealthy food and taxing sugar and promoting urban planning that keeps on encouraging car use.

There is this also rather insidious campaign to try and have the word obesity banned as it is hurtful to fat people. There is no such thing as obesity and being fat has no effect on your life expectancy. Fat shamers should be the ones who ought to be ashamed. Be proud of your rolls and three hundred pounds of flab. Rejoice in your own body. Being obese is the same as being curvy.

Now there are the two extremes of course the other being the world of anorexia. Personally being of slender build myself I have always taken to those of the opposite sex and indeed my wife who are also slender and petite. But people are indeed different forms. Just eat in moderation, eat healthily and do a reasonable amount of exercise. I find it horrible to observe the number of obese indeed morbidly obese people of both sexes often flaunting it during the summer and the way they bring their children up the same way. People should not be judged on aesthetic beauty as is the case today as it is incredibly superificial. However my problem with obesity is the health problems it is causing and the pressure it exerts on the NHS.

These two videos are rather interesting seeing as one is about the 'politically correct' way some would like obesity to be treated as espoused by morbidly obese supermodel Tess Holliday and supposed scientist Lindo Bacon. These sort of people in the social media mad world of today are extremely dangerous individuals. And how those wonderful fast food firms in the US turned people into fatties. The same companies like McDonalds pretending to be all goody two shoes.

Suffice to say seeing as the first video is from a while ago most of the individuals filmed in it have since died from health symptoms related to their weight.

I'm sick of the lies peddled by the HAES movement.

Sure if you're a bit chubby and can still feel loved and confident, that's important, but they are endorsing living as a literal landwhale as a healthy lifestyle. It's a movement which is enabling people with addictive and self destructive tendencies.

Even former fatties like Adele got abused for being a traitor, by losing weight from these radical lunatics.

However they will all die out. So no long term worries.
