Plus how many people aged 90 end up in a private care home shouldered at their own expense, through selling their house etc. Whereas you’d assume anyone at non retirement age in ill health through obesity would almost exclusively be the burden of the NHS.

Well considering the Tories are increasing tax on everyone significantly (except pensioners) to pay for care, I imagine it’s quite a burden!

Also it's not actually even going to reach the care sector :)

That's very interesting, thanks - I am suggesting that, but only in the context of multiple conditions being more likely if you are unhealthy/overweight and not looking after yourself, and that stretch out from that bon vivant age of (roughly, as Jumbo suggested) 65 into older age, rather than just doing for them straight off the bat at that kind of earlier age and thereby removing them from NHS care requirements altogether.

I am not in any way a medical professional so I could be talking bollox and you're coming in with some factual information, so that's good.

Yeah, I deleted my message in the end (and went for something a bit more frivolous) because I thought I had misunderstood you.

One of the reasons health care costs are increasing is precisely because we have seen a shift from communicable to non-communicable diseases as a cause of death. Cholera kills you off much more quickly - and cheaply - than cancer. If you throw overweight/obesity into the mix then, as you say, the number of multimorbidities increases and the cost is likely to spiral. It's not age in itself that causes rising health care costs.

Honestly seems like the perfect man for the job. Ticks every box for me.

Some of the teams this guy has created. Leicester will take the cake but my personal favourite is his Batistuta/Rui Costa Fiorentina side.

If we beat Liverpool, can we do something for his 70th? Like sign a big virtual card? Or is that just pushing it a bit too far as fans... ;)

Just hope it's not a Fulham repeat but as you say he has mostly done well in jobs before and since.

I'm looking at his time at Fulham as others might look at GT with England or Clough with Leeds.

We're still in the top three favourites to go down no matter who is manager but I do think we've got a decent squad - just had the wrong guy managing it. Fingers crossed.

It'll be interesting to see if Grandpa Claudio has managed to teach Troost Ekong to pass to one of his own team mates. I'll take my hat off to him he has

I don't think that is naive, I would say that this is the general consensus of the majority of watford supporters. To be honest this is exactly what I hoped we would do last season if we went up. We may even stay up as the competition aren't brilliant, if we do then that is a bonus and if we get relegated the plan is still on track and the club should be in a hethier position financially.

I said before the Pozzos and fans shouldn't expect too much from the next few games but never know with better organisation and performance we can surprise a few again.

No doubt the media will be saying "when will he be sacked" after each game if we lose.

I see Klopp has had his say...

Again, in what possible world is planning to get relegated and lose tens of millions in Premier League cash, alongside all our top players and most promising youngsters for well below their optimum value and have to redevelop a squad for the third time in three seasons, a better position financially - or, indeed, an intelligent business move?

Given T-E has been away on international duty for the majority of these two weeks then that would certainly be some doing already!

Because it is cheaper and more sensible than coming up and spending more money that we do not have. Of course in an ideal World we would like to stay in The Premier League and get the financial rewards. However, to have a good chance of staying up we need to spend a lot more, which in my opinion would be a massive gamble.

I don't think we are going to stay up either, but I would like us to give it a good go. If we do go down, then you would hope Gino would not have spent our remaining funds on panic buys to try and retain our Premiership status if, say by April it seems a lost cause. That small portion of money, including any sales from Sarr etc. would be a nice cushion to rebuild next season (along with any Parachute payments). If we don't go mad in January, spend what we can within our mean (get a bloody RB) and stay up - then we are even better positioned to not be in a relegation scrap next season, especially if we manage to retain Sarr, Dennis, King, Bachmann, Pedro, Etebo and Serrialtra. My assumption is, if we do survive this season, the pre-mentioned players' may consider staying with us.

Having a "decent squad" in the prem isn't usually enough to stay up.

Haven't seen what he's said but he usually manages to spin each game they play such that anything better than a 2 goals for defeat for his side would be a major achievement and wholly down to his superb management. Something along those lines ?

No, but it's better than some of our squads that survived.

And in my opinion we now have the best manager of the lot. No player is going to think they know better than Claudio Ranieri. They should feel honoured to work with him.

To have a decent enough chance of staying up, we would have had to spend relatively very little more than we did - we could even theoretically have recruited further on frees - just bringing Nkoulou in in the summer, when he would have cost us exactly the same amount of money, would have improved our chances of staying up, considering the situation we now find ourselves in.

It's a fallacy that we either had to throw the kitchen sink at transfers and bankrupt ourselves, or immediately accept relegation - we just had to be a little smarter and a little more active in a few key areas (to be said to have a 'decent' chance).

Also not to have allowed the ultimate competition winner's dream to turn into all of our nightmares - that would have helped, too.

Hope you are right but not expecting much in the next few weeks with the injuries around and our squad not being as good as some think going by recent performances unless we are just basically saying it was all down to Munoz.

I think over time Ranieri can get us more organised and tactically aware but he needs the players to be on the ball - as you say they ought to have respect for him.
