Match abandoned. Will wait to see the consequences. Brazil needs to be penalized.

Bolsonaro suddenly decides that four players pose a huge risk to the population at large after his own stupidity, ignorance and overweening arrogance in ignoring scientific/medical advice has seen Brazil suffer the second worst death toll in the world. Beyond credulity.

Messi and Scaloni asked the Brazilian health official why now ? And then Messi said to them get stuffed.....:D

No amigo but none of the PL Brazilians went over. So it's a weaker selecao without Becker or Ederson, Fabinho and Richarlison. Luiz, Silva and Firmino don't count. Smacks of them trying to even things up and avoid another defeat at home.

Looks like these problems are rather more serious than the Brazilian farce.

Vast natural resources in Guinea, which sadly always go hand-in-hand with coups and bloodshed.

They (and we) are very lucky to get out of the country as I know first-hand that you can be stuck for weeks if you happen to get caught up in a coup.

Well after lots of arguing that this abandonment was a political stunt pulled by Bolsonaro to try and boost his plunging ratings and with Independence Day coming up as well. The AFA have shown the paperwork. CONMEBOL agreed with all parties and so did the state government of Sao Paulo.

Then an armed health official comes onto the pitch as the game starts trying to deport three players. FIFA will also get involved. You cannot have governments pulling stunts like this in sporting events. Brazil will get fined, forfeit the game and even play their home games at a neutral venue as a result. Peru are already asking for guarantees from the Brazilian government prior to their arrival. What a circus. Even Tite normally a placid individual was livid after the 'game'. The referee asked Argentina to return to their dressing room for their own safety and I would expect to place the blame on the numpty official who stormed onto the pitch and thereby the Brazilian government who have been scrabbling around to come up with excuses for their actions.

An ARMED health official? Why don't we provide the NHS with guns? Something must be done!

England have played pretty well for most of tonight and probably should have been further ahead. But why has that dimwit Southgate not made a single sub? We’ve now conceded an injury time equaliser with the starting XI still on the field. Even just to waste time and disrupt the inevitable Polish last minute Hail Mary it surely would have made sense?

I find it utterly bizarre how he’s so good at setting up a team based on how he thinks the opposition will start the game, but he is utterly incapable of reacting to anything unfolding within a game.

Messi overtook Pele with his hat trick against Bolivia taking his total to 79 goals in internationals although in more matches. One has to remember at the time Pele was playing the standard of teams like Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Peru were much lower than now. It was an emotional night at El Monumental with the players celebrating their Copa America win with the twenty thousand or so supporters lucky enough to get a ticket in a lottery. Tears from Messi as well. It may have been Bolivia but the Argentine team played with a fluency, movement off the ball and switch in attack that I have not seen for many years. The weight of not winning a title for so long for such a talented football powerhouse seems to have been lifted. And a weight off Leo. They played with elan and joie de vivre and such a display of esprit de corps.

Argentina are playing their best football in years. Aside from a couple of very smart saves from Emiliano Martinez early on Uruguay were outclassed. In the end Argentina could have scored six or seven. The spine of the side from Martinez in goal, Romero in defence, de Paul in midfield and Messi upfront is world class.

Ecuador suffered a surprise away defeat to Venezuela while Chile beat Paraguay 2-0 to keep their faint hopes of making it to Qatar alive. Both teams had a player sent off. Paraguay were very fortunate to not have two players sent off against Argentina in their previous 0-0 game thanks to an incredibly lenient Brazilian referee.

Scotland playing their fierce derby versus local rivals Faroe Islands.

Scotland will be on a high after their monumental and historic win against Israel. Can they elevate this team onto even bigger highs with a derby win tonight .

Surely a breakthrough win against a massive country like Norway or Romania must be just around the corner for our plucky neighbours?

Sam Matterface is a woeful commentator. Completely unobservant. Ref points to the spot for a foul by Luke Shaw near the edge of the box and he’s banging on for 20 seconds about if it’s going to be a free kick or a penalty. He does things like that about 3 or 4 times a game I’ve noticed.

Edit: oh and followed up with the immortal line, “England are facing a penalty earlier than they would have liked.” U wot m8??

    And it was a penalty.

Anyway back into it with one of our famous set plays.

It was, though slightly jammy as it’s only a penalty if the Hungarian is savvy enough to go for the ball. He was but there was a slight delay where it obviously occurred to him going head first at Shaw’s raised boot would give him a good chance of winning a penalty. There’s almost an argument he endangered himself.

Haven’t watched the game but you have to love Southgate. 1-1 home to Hungary. Henderson for Sterling. Man’s a divot.

Hungary have dug in well and we’ve looked really sloppy. I don’t think Southgate really knows his best team or tactical setup.

It’s a terrible result but you can’t fail to qualify these days so he’ll get an easy ride. I think he’s awful despite his strong results.

Reckon he’ll go after Qatar. Deep down he knows he has run extremely good so can go with great record whatever happens this World Cup.

Far from doing a great job managing England, I believe Southgate is in fact stifling the incredible array of footballing talent we have at our disposal in England right now. The England team should be winning tournaments NOT blundering through them and ultimately ending up with inglorious defeats.

IMO England got to the final of the Euros against Italy in spite of Southgate being in charge not because he was.

We have fantastic talent in England at present and we need a manager who can nurture this talent and not stifle it like Southgate does. Give England a manager who will bring out the best in our current crop of talented players instead of stifling their natural flair and talent then we will be the dominant force in the football world at least for the next few years.

However in order to do that Southgate must go NOW!!!

The lack of any pace apart from Sterling cannot help.

Ok have good technical players who can keep the ball and dribble but there was no one to get in behind particularly against a strong defence sitting back.

We need more of a alternative game plan when struggling.

Argentina and Brazil unsurprisingly the first two non European countries to qualify for Qatar.

Ecuador are looking good after win v Sierralta’s mob in Chile in 3rd whilst it’s pretty tight for that 4th spot - Colombia, Peru and Uruguay all involved .

Like in Europe Africa are at the play off stage - only 5 teams will qualify so we could see a WFC clash within Sarr facing WTE and co or Louza and Masina.

Canada topping the group in Central and North America - would be their first World Cup since 1986 if they make it .

I used to like watching Mexico play as we were pretty good. Not anymore though.
Yesterday's match was a disaster. Starting to feel like we will end up in the intercontinental play-offs.

    Reminders of 1977/1985 potentially?

Scotland got to get past Ukraine first and Wales beat Austria.

And one of Italy or Portugal will be not be going to Qatar .
