Age defying/lip enlarging/forehead paralysing "make me look good"procedures. Why do people feel the need to do it ? So many celebrities, mainly but not exclusively women, have clearly been tampered with in a way that makes them feel they look more attractive. Invariably it makes them look plastic, and frankly creepy. For example I watched the great Friends reunion 2 hr tv prog recently, which was great, but Courtney Cox esp & Jennifer A just looked wierd. Also pumped up lips, as with the Little Mix singer in the above post and pic below....it is just me of do they look terrible and fake, like an allergic reaction ?

It's the modern trend in eyebrows I find really odd. And hugely unattractive. See eg the two Apprentice finalists in 2019.

It’s totally bizarre. I fully appreciate that not everything a woman does is to attract a man, but at the same time, who actually finds a mouth that looks like baboons arse attractive? It must be such a tiny niche of the male population that I just don’t get it.

And those are actually pretty tame, I’ve seen some that you’d assume are a joke.

Eyebrows have taken on a life of their own. I look at some people and half expect the eyebrows to wander off and exit stage left.

Something compelled me to 'catch' the start of the new series of Law & Order: SVU. I get Mariska Hargitay's 57 but... the one that floored me was her co-star Kelli Giddish (who's 'only' 41) and has a face 'bottoxed' to the point where it was like watching a Madame Tussauds's waxwork who they've manage to make the illusion of actually being able to speak.

Yeah agree. I think women age well naturally, no idea why they do it and make themselves look inhuman. Absolutely no idea why anyone under 30 would have anything done - that is the particular head scratcher.

This ties in well with @Relegation Certs excellent post in the main forum about obesity in the UK and general laziness.

Why eat well and make the effort to do sport and keep fit if you can make yourself "pretty" by bunging someone a few quid to pump you full of fillers.

There's a girl who works in Aldi near me - perfect make up and hair, lips filled into a full trout pout and obese. Sums it up.

you tried your best to give a safe a supportive environment to kids who by their nature experiment at that age.

they’ll (must of us have) always push those boundaries as we did, as our parents did and people throughout history. We can’t wrap them in cotton wool completely forever and autonomy comes for many through experimentation.

and then you looked after them well.
im not downplaying the risks of alcohol but teenagers will drink
it’s doubtful that many 15 year olds could get hold of enough alcohol to do serious damage, the LD50 is much higher than the amount they could buy.
It’s much better if they are to have that experience of being drunk they do it with responsible adults on hand

you did it safe and hopefully some will learn limits that can’t be taught in a class room or from helicoptering.

also I’d add to my list of hate the vogue for high waisted swim wear on girls
I don’t get this huge hips and bum enlarged by Instagram filters is now the main thing to go for. To me it looks wrong

No, that's one of my points. It looks ridiculous, but people go for it because it's an easy option to "enhance" yourself.

I have no idea where "having a big arse = attractive" came from.

I can understand that some people find a big bum attractive that’s fine, may be cultural, certainly was in history, fertile, child bearing, rubenesque etc

it’s the weird side of the pants hooked up to past the belly button, almost to your armpits thing, just looks really uncomfortable and reminds of borat in a mankini

There's big round firm butts and there's the mis-shaped beach ball arses on an otherwise slim woman that look ridiculous. Invariably accompained by painted mega suprise eyebrows and fish lips.

I've seen a few pictures of Jesy Nelson before she was famous. She looks beautiful. I know she was bullied about her looks when she got into the band, she was labeled as the "fat one" and it destroyed her mental health. Thankfully she recovered. I only bring this up because some woman change their look due to peer pressure, wanting to fit in. I fully understand wanting to look pretty before I walk out the door. I have no shame in walking down the road with no makeup to get a pint of milk, some woman feel the opposite. Everyone in the world is body sensitive.

The overuse of some young women and makeup. I was speaking to my daughters friend out on Saturday night and all I could see was the copious amounts of makeup that was all over the collar of her blouse.

But what exactly is fitting in for a woman these days?

When in your teens as a young female, caking yourself in makeup to get noticed is generally the "in thing" to do. I was a teenager through the 1990s, and everything was the same then as well. Night clubs are even worse. Some of the outfits i've seen girls wear would make my cat blush. Not saying it's wrong, it's their choice, but surely some sense of dignity on how much 'flesh' girls nowadays show would be appreciated.

Well I can only give my opinion as a 50+ year old man. I find the way some of the younger women dress as purely comical. Why on Earth would they purposely go for the camel toe look? I for one don't find it attractive. Plus I find the fuller figure looking women attractive but the majority here in Norway really need a lesson in what outfits to wear. Jesus that sounds very harsh

It's not harsh it's your own view and you have every right to express it. As a Bi female of course I "look" sometimes just like any guy would. However I do agree that personally, for me anyway, looking at a nicely clothed man/woman who presents him/herself well is much more attractive than what they are wearing.

That's the thing - musicians today can't make money from their music sales. Lilly Allen has spoken openly about this - she gets her money from tour sponsors and endorsements. I imagine Jesy Nelson has to remain 'hi-profile' to have some sort of an income and that for her is looking like how her target market want to look.

Some of it baffles me - I have really thick bushy eyebrows that my 20 YO daughter inherited. But she still shaves her off and paints them on again - something I was discussing on Friday with a, frankly stunning, Eurasian A&E medic WHO DID THE SAME THING.

It’s interesting to consider why we each as individuals arrive at finding certain things attractive and certain things off putting. It wasn’t until my mid 20’s that I realised that I had a ‘type’. Its impossible to put your finger on why though.

I heard Dan Harmon (tv writer) explaining why he thinks he has a nylon fetish… He believes that we all have our first sexual thought and whatever ever the stimulus was it sticks from then on. He obviously doesn’t mean an explicitly sexual thought but he seems to think that one day when he was young he was playing with toys on the floor and saw a nylon clad leg and his brain will now forever associate that with pleasure or excitement or whatever.

Beauty standards change and I think the lots of makeup, revealing gym wear thing is a product of social media. Sadly it has encouraged people, men and women to spend far more curating their image because their is nothing worse than going unnoticed. Like leg warmers and perms in the 80’s it’s the fashion and it clearly works because young people are still banging.

Good points. Following on from that, it also appeals enormously to the 'Mass Market' and companies spend millions of pounds promoting their new "line" of whatever the new fad is. Remember shell suits? Material that was so brittle it tore at the slightest pull. Also, you get the "retro but still cool" appeal - like wearing five seasons old football tops - I still do that - so do a lot of fans of their clubs. I think my mate has a Leicester City top from when your lot played at Filbert Street. Pretty sure the sponsor was Walkers. :)
