But they'll never know the pure, unbridled joy of a 96th-minute equalizer away at York by Steve Palmer in 3rd/4th Division days, in front of about 227 away fans, will they, lutonh8a? And I'm being serious when I post this.

Haven't we all being saying we are done with football for years? Yet here we still are.

There will always be more fans of smaller clubs than of the big 6, or whatever it is now.

Armchair fans supporting the big clubs isn't a new thing, there are plenty of people in their 50s who support Liverpool because of their success when they were kids.

I hate the Premier League, honestly can't stand it. The whole thing is about money, it'll buy you the title and it's why clubs like us want to be there.

And don't get me started on the way the media wet themselves over the big clubs. I could have thrown up listening to Martin Tyler going on during Liverpool vs Man City.

Least that sounded like a decent game which kind of lived up to all the hype unlike so many.

Mind you did take Liverpool till half time to turn up apparently and Man City should have been well ahead.

You wonder if a takeover in October might have unintended consequences for Newcastle. If the manager, coaches and most of the players reckon they will be replaced by the start of next season, maybe even in January for some players, could performances dip to the point that they might be in a serious relegation fight come Easter? After all I think they have only won 7 out of the last 38 premier league games.

Could they be the first mega rich club to get relegated?

Add to that 19 other clubs having a greater incentive to raise their game against them between now and the end of the season. There’s a very good chance they could get dragged into a relegation fight.

I expect a few VAR incidents will be overlooked though

Just seen on twitter that Newcastle have set their sights on a move for Harry Kane...

My thoughts on this are that if it was Watford in this position I would embrace the added financial strength but I would like a stepped progression with the club not looking to just buy success with throwing money at recruitment. I'd want us to grow into a more appealing transfer option not just from a financial prospective. This is in an ideal world and we couldn't live in a more opposite reality. Newcastle will no doubt buy their way to trophies in the next couple of years easily

Would be a pointless move for Kane surely? He’ll be well past it by the time they’re in a position to challenge for the league and CL.

Yes - they were talking about 5 years or so.

Newcastle need to make sure they stay up first this season.

That’s probably right, but I don’t really understand Kane’s strategy (if there is one). He should never have signed his last contract extension at Spurs if he was thinking of leaving. They would have been much more open to selling him if his contract was running down and the likes of Man City would have been more likely to sign him.

I do love how the new Newcastle director is stressing that their partner is the PIF, not the Saudi state.....PIF being funded by the Saudi state and run by Crown Prince MBS, of course.

    Farcical.

If the reports are true it sound like he was a bit naive, in that he apparently had a gentleman’s agreement with Levy that he could leave at the end of last season. Unfortunately for Kane there was nothing written down and no figure attached to it, so Levy honoured part of the agreement and was happy to let him leave, but for £150m or whatever it was. If City go for Halland next summer he might be stuck there for the rest of his career, which ultimately serves him right for signing a deal and thinking he could get out of it with Levy as his boss.

Absolutely crazy, it’s the investment fund of the country chaired by the head of the country. Of course Saudi Arabia will have no direct control over PIF… just like when they directly lobbied the U.K. government to try and get the deal through. It’s a totally pointless rule if you’re just going to ignore it so pathetically like the PL have. Only worried about the piracy issue because it directly costs them money, once that was out of the way morals go out the window.

Yes, it is deeply disappointing. I was pleased to read that the other 19 clubs in the league are very unhappy about the takeover, though. I doubt they can achieve anything, but it's something.

Bachmann made a bit of an error against Tottenham (I don't think it was a horrendous error, and certainly not one of be confident of Foster making), and Wolves was another disappointing one, but I'd back Bachmann to make those saves against Norwich and Newcastle, and everything else Foster has done has been fairly routine

I suppose so, but it would be very hard to give a good reason to block this takeover when other dubious ones have been allowed. As someone has already said on here: that ship has sailed.

Shearer’s reaction was a bit weird: the concerns about the Saudis shouldn’t be swept under the carpet, but it’s a great day for the Geordies becoming the richest club in the world. Isn’t that sweeping the concerns under the carpet?

I just don't subscribe to that line of thinking. Making a mistake in the past shouldn't mean you just handwave making it again in the future. If anything, you should know better and should have learned from it.

The key is though, that the PL don’t want to block it. The way they’ll see it is the more money being pumped into a club the better it will be for their product, with better players being attracted etc. They needed the flimsiest of excuses to wave it past their own rule, if they’d wanted to have blocked it they would’ve, because let’s face it, its farcical, and if you were inclined to think the state could have an element of control if they wanted it, you’d be entirely correct to draw that conclusion. The only reason you wouldn’t draw that conclusion is because you don’t want to draw that conclusion. The only thing they were worried about was the piracy issue, once that went they couldn’t care less.

To be honest, I doubt many of the Geordie fans would be aware of the atrocities of the Saudi state, unless it was a headline in The Sun of course.

Now they probably are aware that something went on that people didn’t like, but hey, who cares. They’ve got loads of money and as long as bin Salman doesn’t go around bumping off Newcastle fans, it’s all good.

Agree with everything except blaming Sky. The EPL are the ones selling their product all over the world, they have caused the move to armchair fans. They don't care about the fans who actually attend matches.
