Unless he has retired from international duty or has fallen out with someone, looking at the defenders called up to Cameroon’s latest squad, I’d say it’s very likely he will be going to AFCON if he gets up to speed.
Everything I want in a centre back - loves a header, thinks he can play a bit so takes loads of risks as last man, not averse to a cheeky dive when he's under pressure due to his overplaying. Calling it now, he'll be a cult hero. He does look very comfortable on the ball but I'm conscious that: a) these are the highlights so don't show any of the times he's been robbed by an attacker whilst messing about with it; and b) I confidently declared that we'd found our passing centre back after watching a video of Troost-Ekong.
He has retired: https://moguldom.com/138312/afcon-winner-nicholas-nkoulou-retires-from-cameroon-national-team/
Looking at that highlights vid of his above, I'd rather he tried to pull off those risky turns from the DM position than as a the last man CB in the PL; I don't think it will be long before he gets caught out and dispossessed from one of them. Also, he can't be any worse as an option there than Louza and Gosling.
So we decided we were full, and didn’t want anything else on the restaurant menu in the summer, then decided to root through their bins once they closed.
He does like a Xavi pirouette. I especially like the opening goal which comes off the back of his head and loops in, straight from Andre Gray book on finishing.
Will he play in the first game back after the break? Without knowing much about his fitness, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we saw WTE and Kabasele against Liverpool
Should have sorted the CB issue in the summer but fair play, thought we'd be waiting until January at best for a new signing
To be fair, if Tufan can get a start whilst being the same size as Rik Waller, then Nkoulou should be the first name on the team sheet.
Penny for the thoughts of the FTRE podcast lads who spent a chunk of yesterday pontificating against the need for CB reinforcements.
