Two year contract is interesting. Does that mean if we end up getting relegated he stays with us in the Championship? I'm delighted with this appointment overall, got to be our biggest name in football since, well Graham Taylor.
I appreciate and even admire the fact he's taken the contrary position and is determined that ranieri is doomed to fail. But surely he can do better than quoting talk fhukin sport for support?!
All I was saying is it’s amusing how history tends to get rewritten. We won promotion. Leicester won the title. Both are facts (sorry to sound like a Benítez lol). But it’s the way of the modern world to rewrite everything to suit an individual’s chosen narrative. If you didn’t want Xisco to start this season, it’s fashionable to take the ‘anybody would have got that side promoted’ line. If you don’t want Ranieri now it’s going to be fashionable to take the ‘well he won the title but really it was his coaches and players not him’. The sad thing with that is it denigrates achievements. Xisco achieved promotion when we were drifting but was then found badly wanting at a higher level. Ranieri spearheaded the most incredible title victory ever with the help of others for sure, but he was the main man. He’s then gone on to have mixed fortunes in his managerial career, but contrary to Simon J’s comments, most people think he did a good job at Sampdoria. He took a team rock bottom and kept them up. In fact I don’t think he’s ever been relegated, as he left Fulham before they dropped. That’s what we need now.
You need to separate the two tasks. Xisco did well to get us up, but there were enough alarm bells to suggest he wasn’t up to the task of managing us in the PL. You’re certainly right that not necessarily every manager could’ve done the same thing and got us promoted, but that is irrelevant to Xisco’s ability to take on a completely different task in managing us in the PL. He was given a shot and the alarm bells many of us noticed last season turned out to be 100% accurate, he wasn’t up to this particular task, even if he was up to the task of getting us promoted.
Fair enough, but using the term “body count” and effectively bragging about yours is weird and, honestly, a trait that most women would find extremely unattractive in a man.
I think he was beaten by Monaco that season, who were then beaten by Mourinho's Porto (who had knocked out United famously at Old Trafford previously)
I'm hearing Ranieri to be announced at 3 because that's how many months he'll have in charge. Might send that one to Paddy Power.
Again, you are quite the expert at disingenuously misunderstanding/reframing any comment made in your general direction. It's almost... delusional
The fact that this thread has been moved into an area named 'Former Players Archive' is just too perfect for words - which Mod did this? Bravo/a.
You should know by now that praising Xisco for the fantastic job he did in the Championship is against the rules
Should have won by 15 points rather than coming second etc. Threw away another title that was ours to lose etc. Only stumbled on winning formation and team ethos due to Deeney injury etc.
Yes, it's very good - a match report in the form of a proper full-blown article. Only slight criticism is that they're too generous with the Watford player ratings, especially in relation to Leeds' - the only thing to really fault about them was the finishing.
@a19tgg Hi mate. I think if you read my post immediately above yours you will see I did separate the two!
SSN Gary Cottrell reporting that Ranieri has now left the training ground around 10 minutes ago. He's met some of the players in the gym today to say hello etc. The announcement is now imminent.
To potentially find our best defender , midfielder (defensive wise ) and striker (if we don’t count Sarr ) injured .
It's like the Last Supper, with Claudio playing the Jesus role despite QSF having the beard. Judas looking menacing two places to the right.
4 of the last 11 managers to be sacked since September 2019 have been Watford managers. And we've not been in the league for half that time.
No....but he interviewed Will Hughes who said "f%^%*!£ hell. If I'd have known that I'd have signed the f%^%*!£ contract.......w&*****s"
