I actually used to do a paper round in Bushey when I was a teenager. Best part of it was around Xmas time you would get the lovely old people come out and give you money. I quite enjoyed it, even though I was earning
£10.75 a week, back then that could buy you a lot more than it can nowadays.

Bit late to this thread and to be honest haven't read all 20 pages so apologies if I'm repeating what others have said. First half except the opening 10 mins was awful. Second half was how football should be played. End to end stuff with loads of chances, really enjoyable to watch. Gutted that Kings goal was ruled offside even if correct but how did the linesman not spot it. Taking Kucka off was strange as it left us with two midfielders and got completely overrun. Bringing Etobo on solved the issue but shouldn't have happened in the first place. The ref was about as bad as I can remember and looked totally out of his depth. Why can't a ref book players for time wasting as soon as they start doing it rather than do it in the 90th minute when it's pointless. Tufan is exactly the player we need. Always looked forward when getting the ball, driving in to space, trying to make things happen. Very promising indeed. Why did Sarr, when clean through, stop on the edge of the box instead of carrying on and then shooting in to the crowd. Massive chance wasted.
A draw was about right but either side could have nicked it in that frenetic last 10 mins.
On the subject on The Bloke from Chile, I though he was below average against Stoke and on that performance could see why he's not playing although surprised he wasn't on the bench.

I suppose in total, far-reaching fairness you could make the allegation that we do bear at least some of the responsibility for him, however...

He could have booked Darlow after about 20 minutes!

The ridiculous one was when the ref trotted all the way up to Darlow in front of the Rookery to make a show of telling to hurry up, then as he walked away Darlow did a comedy act of letting the ball roll underneath his foot and past him towards the goal, thereby wasting more time.

    'Remaining united is key'.

That's right - not having a coherent game plan or starting lineup, any control of the midfield, ability to affect the game in a non-negative way through the use of subs, defensive organisation, or attacking cohesion.

    It's 'remaining united'.

Interesting on Ref Watch. Dermott Gallagher, who always sticks up for the referees basically said he was sh1t. He said "I certainly think he'll be a stronger referee for it this morning then he was on Saturday morning. I watched the entire game and it was tough. He'll go through the game with his coach but will be better in the future". Rob Wotton said "that's very diplomatic....let's move on".....chuckle, chuckle.

I wasn't there personally so cannot comment directly, but according to most fans' who did, saw a referee totally out of his depth at the highest level, brandishing his fave yellow card and not sending off at least
one Newcastle player. He also seemed to be very biased against Watford in general (which, given our prior experience in this league is not surprising), and bottled almost every key moment in favor of what the
linesman thought instead of coming to his own conclusions.

I doubt he'll get another Premier League game for quite some time. He missed booking a Newcastle player for booting the ball away, who was already on a yellow. He allowed time-wasting, especially their keeper until deep into injury time. He played on to Watford's advantage before giving Newcastle a free kick quite a few seconds after the initial coming together. He gave Newcastle a free kick after Darlow punched Cleverley in the face, who later went off for concussion. He lost all control over player power and Newcastle were certainly taking advantage of this knowing they were getting away with it. He didn't booked King for taking off his shirt in celebration, even though that's mandatory. He awarded Watford the goal after the VAR checked, but then changed the signal to a free kick to Newcastle. He allowed Newcastle players to hack down Sarr every time he got the ball, without booking them.

It was probably one of the most inept displays I think I've ever seen. He was almost as bad as Jon Moss, which tells you how incompetent he was, although I might be taking it a little too far with that.

If a referee is good enough to officiate a Premier League match between Watford and Newcastle, he is good enough to take charge of Chelsea v Man City or Arsenal v Tottenham but we know that new officials get eased in with lower profile fixtures. It exposes entirely the idea that the Premier League is a level playing field. Some matches are clearly more important than others.

Exactly. 3 points are just as important to Watford as they are to City, Chelsea, Liverpool or United. But once again Watford are seen as the soft touch you can guinea pig an official for. They did they same to us when they gave Andrew Madley his Premier League debut three years ago against Cardiff. We all know the EPL pander to the big boys and try their best to engineer situations to benefit the bigger sides. They are not even all that subtle about it either.

The funniest one was Kucka’s elbow which he didn’t see as a foul, he let us play on until realising it was a head injury 10 seconds later so he stopped the game which is fine.

However play then resumed as a Newcastle freekick rather than a drop ball despite him never blowing for a foul? Absolutely laughable, the occasion got to him because I’m sure he’s aware of the rules.

I didn't think at any point he was awarding the goal but he certainly gave a mixed signal, which the crowd didn't understand. Football crowds tend to be a bit stupid/inobservant in the heat of the moment but that one was all his fault. He had his hand up to indicate an indirect freekick, which is right for offside, but then pointed his other arm in the direction Newcastle were attacking, which is a direct free kick. In honesty though that whole couple of minutes was embarrassing for the officials. VAR can't intervene until the officials make a decision. Yet it took Jared and his assistant probably 20 (30?) seconds to decide to signal for offside. Meanwhile Watford are tearing off celebrating a last minute winner and Newcastle are halfway up the pitch for the restart. Ironically they'd have looked more competent (in my view) by awarding the goal on the field and then being overruled by VAR, rather than the shambles they went with.

I'm 99% sure he gave the foul. It was just very, very delayed.

He did have his arm up, but then pointed to the centre circle, which is the signal for a goal. From the other end of the ground you just see the arm pointing the to centre circle, which is what excited the crowd. So it was a mixed signal at best but was certainly completely wrong. He didn't even do the square box, to indicate it was a VAR call, which all referees do.

On the foul issue, but waved play on, or rather just ignored the coming together. He clearly allowed play to continue. It wasn't until the Newcastle players started protesting pointing to the player on the floor did he stop play. Then he decided to make it a freekick to Newcastle for some bizarre reason. Had the player just got up, play would have 100% continued, so it does pay sometimes to roll around in agony, especially with this guy in charge.

Right in front of where I sit, Darlow punches Cleverley in the face. Something white came out of his mouth. I thought Clevs had lost a tooth, but it must have been gum.

I didn't actually think it was a foul by Darlow, although many did. I just saw it as a coming together. Cleverley actually pulled away from it. But for the referee to give Newcastle a freekick for it, was just crazy.

To put on JP on in the midfield was weird, he's one of those more withdrawn forwards that drops deep, and he works hard, but it doesn't mean he should play in midfield! Even if he's playing as a more advanced #10, we're still lacking numbers and defensive solidity in the middle of the park

I don't think he was biased against us, I think he was just really, really bad. There were plenty of bad decisions made in our favor, there were just far more that went against us.

He was definitely bad for both teams, though. I think he was probably overwhelmed by the occasion: his first Premier League game, first non-British ref in the top flight. Lots of pressure....

The odd thing was that the linesman didn’t put his flag up immediately after King put the ball in the net, as he should have done if he thought it was offside. On the TV highlights you can see him still discussing it with the ref as King is in the crowd celebrating. So I can only conclude it was the ref who decided King was offside, despite not being in the best position to judge.

If this were to be true then it would be incompetence of the highest order. It's clear we don't have a squad good enough to gamble half a season away with money burning a hole in our pocket that could strengthen it. We were promoted nice and early, had the whole summer to find players. Seems far more likely we're broke and spent what little we had on Louza.

I watched on TV and he did look absolutely ****, I don’t think he was biased against Watford I think Newcastle were just better at playing him than us.

Not an excuse but must have been a bad game to ref , from the start it looked like it was going to be a physical game, I’m not sure I have ever seen so many people being taken off their feet , I think there were 31 fouls given in total and probably another 5 or 10 that should have been.

It’s interesting that new ref are given the less desirable games, but would probably have an easier time with a big match (where two teams were not trying to kick the **** out of each other)

    Desire?
I have the burning desire to beat my son down the slopes, but when the cheeky little s**t skis past me with just one ski touching the snow, l know that my time is up. He is 9 and l am past it.
Cathcart should realise this. In the end, desire, no matter how well meaningvitcis, counts for nothing over skill.

    Good one
Desire over realisation. Most of us know when our time is up regarding being productive in sports. We adjust, we play in the stiffs or in a lower league.
I accept that Cathcart wants to keep playing, but in the Premier league he is totally out of his depth.
As for Sierralta, l feel it is not just the own goal issue. It has to be more than that. No leaks yet, but someone will spills the beans soon.

Lots of rumors seem to circulate it's a commitment issue in training. Again, nothing is concrete but the Watford Observer had a story of Xisco suggesting Sierralta will be picked when he "earns his place".
If that is true - it would be interesting to be a fly on the training ground wall.

That season culminating in the play-off demolition of Leeds in Cardiff was one of my favourite seasons supporting WFC. Unfortunately, success went to various people's heads and the fall from grace was as steep and as fast as the rise to the summit.

God, his personality is summed up quite nicely in this brief Wikipedia article:

"In August 2019, White came under fire for his reporting style of the news that Bury FC had been expelled from the EFL. He was seen reporting for Sky Sports in front of a countdown clock.
...White was fined £750 and banned from driving for a year in 2005 after refusing a breath test.[6]

In 2010 he was stopped from boarding a British Airways flight due to being drunk.[6]"

Seems it's true what they say about there being no cure for being a c*nt.
