Woakes takes a couple of wickets with India 200 ahead and 5 wickets left. Now if they can get Kohli out soon ..
Kohli gone. This match is still very much in the balance. Fantastic test match this and the sun is finally out now. Wonderful, what it’s all about.
England will hopefully have a day and a half or so to reach any target as I don’t think we will go out in the attack given our fallibility in the batting order.
Chasing anything more than 250/275 despite this pitch still being decent would be a long shot I’d say given our batting.
Yes, one more decent partnership of 40 or so would take it out of our reach esp with our batting line up.
Thakur will be up the order at this rate ! India probably wish they had put him in earlier in the series.
At what point do they declare ? England can no longer score the runs to win and they will surely want 90 mins plus tonight to make sure they have time to bowl us out ? Maybr they stop at a lead of 350 ? 375?
What a great test match but how do England go from here. Bat through to lunch without losing more than one wicket and that's the case try and go for it?
In that scenario (ie, not being 4 down at lunch!) I don't think they will push in the second session for fear of losing quick wickets. I think they will try and bat steadily until tea and see how many wickets they have in hand. After tea, if Root is still there, then they have Bairstow, Moeen, Woakes who can score quickly. First objective is to not lose.
Yes India win is still the most likely at this stage. Scoring rate needed is about 3 an over. Ok to fall below that for S1 and S2 as long as we keep wickets in hand and go for it in S3 as long as we have only say 3 wickets down. Could have down with Buttler and/or Stokes if that were to be the case. The likleihood is that we will lose a wicket or 2 in the first hour and the rest of the day will be about achieving a draw but you never know in this match...
If we can accumulate 75-100 without losing more than 1 wicket by lunch, then reassess. If it's reachable by tea it might benefit us to push Root down the order and get the one dayers to smack it around a bit. But it will be a very long day.
Think we'd still need Root to anchor the innings and he can score quickly too but sensibly. Not a bad 50 overs player but not reckless enough for 20 overs....
For India it's a tricky situation, they could of course play it safe and suffocate us into a draw as they know they are unlikely to lose the match given the target. However they could bowl a lot of inviting balls where we would press to take more risks and then lull us into giving wickets away, risk and reward and all that.
Yes but my point is which is the real pair ? Today's performance ? First innings perfomance ? Prior match performance ? One day they are great, one day they look incapable of batting/scoring
50's a dangerous score in this test. First time ever a player has been dismissed for exactly 50 in all four innings of a test match.
Although I'm only listening on TMS, it sounds like Burns was done by the only genuinely good ball in the first hour.
3 Indian coaches have tested positive for Covid. I'm sure it's fine for today but hope it doesn't affect the final test as it's been an excellent series
Run rate dropping and dropping and dropping. Less than 2 an over for the last 10 overs and Hameed seems to have gone into his shell a little like he did last time he passed 50. 3 runs off the bat in the last 4 overs. Fine if we are just playing for the draw now. Trouble is if we allow an england win to drift too far as an option, it will allow India to really apply some pressure in S3. ...and then a run-out. You couldn't make it up....
A ******* run out!! Really? That's what happens if you stop scoring runs. Need to keep the scoreboard ticking over
