There was that 18/19 season where he did score a few and some important ones but that was when the whole team played fairly well under Gracia till April time .

Imagine when he gets recalled as injuries and the AFCON take out Sarr, Pedro, Cucho, King and Dennis

The key thing is that even though he won’t be playing for us this season, we can still look people in the eye and say he’s our player for these last few months. Softens the blow.

…and then scores the goals to keep us up, wins the fans over, is offered a new 3 year deal, turns it down to join one of opponents. It’s Lee Nogan all over again.

In elite company with Trevor Benjamin in terms of players that couldn’t even trap a bag of cement.

I think Floella Benjamin was better than Andre.

Or Andre could form a three with Trevor Senior and Nathan Ellington. Defenders would either stand there shaking their heads or falling about laughing at the perceived goalscoring threat. Peter Beadle could then replace one of them from the Subs bench.

This may be a stupid question but why have we not sold Gray along with Deeney and Success? Can't see the point of this loan when realistically he'll never come back to us.

You can only sell if someone wants to buy.
If QPR bought him then they would of had to give him more than a 1 year contact.

No-one wanted to buy him. He’s on £70k p/w, so a loan was the best option we had. I think I read somewhere that QPR are paying him 50% of his wages. So if that’s true, that’s saving us a little over £1.8mil.

TBH I think Deeney and Gray are now much of a muchness in terms of ability (or lack of) and Success is probably even worse, but it seems the Brum factor and his greater street cred swayed it for Deeney, whereas Udinese probably see some still untapped potential in Success who is much younger than the other two.

QPR can't afford to pay him what he wants and probably don't want him for more than a year anyway.

This thread should be deleted and all trace of him should be expunged from our history. Can’t the mods also add a swear filter for whenever anyone tries to mention him, something like ******* **** **** **** **** **** ****!!!!! should do it.

As ever, you can decide how much credence you want to give to his insights; even more so in the light of the rest of the about-to-be-mentioned content, but regardless, on the much-discussed FTRE pod from yesterday morning, Leventhal said he couldn't imagine QPR were paying any significant proportion of Gray's wages.

You'd think that would be something he should know or could find out from someone who actually knows what they're talking about. Maybe the club don't want him saying anything in case we are paying 100% still and fans kick off.

I honestly think the club don't want him saying anything about almost anything, except for the party lines he is now so clearly peddling, like the extreme strangeness of going on about James Morris, and the amount he focused on the concept of 'getting players out of the club' during that pod like the chief driver of a club hierarchy is to play a game of 'Rummy' with your squad (to the point where in the section where he put on a 'funny' voice and impersonating those asking him questions about the club, the subject/grievance he chose to mock was the idea that the fanbase as a whole were fixated on 'all these players have gone now, what are we going to do without them' - which could, of course, not be more of a red herring if it had been plucked out of the Atlantic and dropped in a bucket of paint this morning, nor less reflective of anyone's concerns).

I think it's possible that he got rapped on the knuckles after one or two of his post-game Twitter lives and pod appearances last season in the dark forever-Deeney times leading up to Coventry, and as such has decided he has to literally chiefly play the role of PR rather than journalist to maintain his position. Even that is understandable, to some extent, as access is everything to access journalists and it's not like he can go round the back door with a club of our size and workings, not to mention the fact that he isn't of much use to The Athletic if he gets himself blacklisted by the Pozzo. It isn't half frustrating to witness, though, and the mild tones of gaslighting are dull to boot.

Tbf, even if we’re paying him 100% of his wages, we’re still winning simply by removing his hideous first touch from the training ground, and planting it on somebody else.

I notice QPR have started very well, carrying on their fine form from the second half of last season and are the top scorers behind Fulham and WBA without Gray.

Interesting to see (if only in a car crash sense) what role they find for him in the squad.

Yeah at the start of the window I would have taken getting him out of the club even if we still had to pay his wages!

It's no surprise. He's been on a downward spiral for many years now. He's done well out of the game though, for a player of his limited technical ability. I know some of the QPR fans who have changed their tune since signing him. In the beginning they thought it was a fantastic statement signing, but how they all think he's sh1te.

Still, he wont be our problem after 30th June 2022.

Lost to Peterborough the other day didn’t they? Which takes some doing.

In the last 16 of the carabo cup tonight, though.

Players decline as the years pass by. That's the way football is folks.
Almen Abdi only made 20 appearances in 3 seasons when he joined a Championship club from us. Players being not as good as they were is nothing new.

Please, don’t ever use Almen Abdi as a point of comparison in defence of Gray.

    It’s truly disrespectful.

If average players, who are coming to the end of the career, do not maintain an incredible focus on, firstly, staying astonishingly fit and, secondly, displaying a fierce mental determination/motivation, they will fall down the leagues very fast. Some supremely gifted players may get away with things at a higher level for a little longer. Andre has a celebrity lifestyle and no concerns about money. His interest in football, in my opinion, has gone for a number of years. When this contract is at an end, perhaps he will rediscover a hunger to prove himself on the pitch before retirement, but I think that is unlikely. I don’t feel that we should be too critical of him, as there are many people who would have lost the absolute hunger, if they were in his shoes. The club giving him that type of a contract was the upsetting issue.

    Nope. No comparison at all.

On one hand, you’ve got a majestic midfielder, who gave us his best years, helping change the culture of our club, and was instrumental both on and off the field in some of the most successful seasons in our history.

On the other hand, you’ve got a twice lockdown breaking, horrendous waste of money, who was part of a dressing room that took us down with barely a whimper.

Injuries finished Abdi, lack of talent and application has done the same to Gray. No comparison.

You disrespect Abdi with your comparison.
