He didn't even say it properly. He was trying to do the "you 'orns!" but it came out as "you hornets".

I don't think we know what the terms are yet. If our contract was five years at his old pay, but only half if we get relegated, why not take two years at bumper pay? The key is what Fulham are paying him, what the whole package is. All being roughly equal, the chance to be key in a fresh project, with a coach he liked, even nearer family - all could be rational reasons.

What comments did Chalobah make about the fans?

I agree with all that but I think proximity to family is extremely tenuous, he could already base himself wherever his family are in London and get to London Colney or the Grove well within an hour.

As I said at the time, just seemed a silly naive thing to say about fans of the club you play for. The players freely admitted they had a clear the air meeting last season where some uncomfortable criticisms were shared - yet Chalobah seemed to take exception to fans sharing the same opinions online. Rather than just enjoy the moment fully, he wanted to dig out fans on his twitter. Just found it very odd.

    @Chalobah
@WatfordFC back in the prem. what a year it's been. Everyone involved with the club has played their part. Thank you to the die hard fans that stayed positive and stuck with us throughout. As for the keyboard warriors that were talking sh*t, eat your words and your keyboard too.

Well, that seems directed right at me, so I'm glad he's gone. The Fat Turkish guy would never be so insulting.

Not sure he could afford London house prices, after all he was only playing for little ol'Watford. Now he's at a massive London club I'm sure he'll be able to afford a modest abode, maybe even stretch to a nice quaint cottage in Fulham.

I wonder how much appearance bonuses come to, even if he took a basic pay cut, would he be better off financially at Fulham given that he wouldn't be first choice here?

Tbf, I've seen pretty reputable websites like Transfermarkt quote around £3m, and LouOrns has been pretty spot on this window, he basically broke the news that we were planning to offload Deeney on the day of the Palace game

This is like football fans who abuse an opposition player relentlessly, usually with offensive slurs thrown at his wife and then go completely apoplectic with rage when said player scores and mildly cups an ear at them.

Plenty of WFC fans have dished it out to Chalobah. Take it on the chin if you did and stop whining.

Eh? He’s not mentioned personal abuse in his message once. If he had alluded to targeted personal abuse, then I’d be fully on his side. But he clearly thanked those who were relentlessly positive about the team whilst being critical of those who weren’t - despite the players themselves being open about their standards not being good enough.

The fact he deleted the post also suggests he knew it was stupid.

Sorry but it’s nothing like the same.

Nonsense. For anyone remotely in the public eye criticism is par for the course, as long as it’s not racist, sexist etc. then it goes with the territory.

Any professional athlete who looks up, takes to heart and goes to the trouble of commenting on fan criticism at a point when they should be celebrating a moment of success is a moron.

Definitely less disappointed than losing Hughes but injuries robbed us of a great player and him of a potential England career.

I think there is a fairly high chance Fulham will get promoted so potentially a backwards step to move forward but perhaps he hopes his stock will be higher in a years time.

Think he's been replaced in midfield proactively. Where we've failed yet again is boosting defence. That's where our 2 missing senior player slots should have been filled

I thought Chalobah's comment was spot on.

It can't be nice reading such nasty bile on social media every day, whether in the public eye or not. Expecting them not be affected by it is no better than expecting black players to put up with racist comments. They are only human. Good for him for speaking out, rather than keeping quiet about it like some keyboard warriers prefer.

Keyboard warriers (and let's face it, are a bunch of anonymous nobodies) ought to be able to take it as well as dish it out. Any of them that feel they need to make an issue of it, must be as soft as ****.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is thinking that the majority of Fulham supporters might actually support the team and club on social media. Maybe it helped him in his decision to move from Watford.

Again, he hasn't alluded to any personal abuse. He is obviously alluding to criticisms of the team despite the players being open about a meeting where they criticised themselves. Why can't fans do the same?

And to suggest Watford has more critical fans than any other club is a bit of a reach!

It’s a pretty self-selecting group isn’t it? Keyboard warriors talking sh*t. Is it a team you want to go into bat for?

And before you answer just pause to think what actually gets written on Twitter and elsewhere, the frequent description of certain players as ‘dog turd’ etc.

Well, I don't think Fulham fans will have much reason to complain this season...

No, it really isn't. He's had a lot of personal stick as he has recovered from his injury and it could be that he thinks he will get a fresh start from new fans. It might be a forlorn hope if he doesn't play too well initially, but it isn't laughable if he has strong enough feelings to have hit back publicly.

  34. zztop

    zztop Eurovision Winner 2015

They can, He hasn't said you can't, but he has just given some of it back. Take it, don't wimp out.

And it is vastly different to a team criticising each other in a constructive effort to improve matters from a bunch of anonymous nobodies hurling personal abuse, most of whom were either not good enough to get past a weekend local league or kickabout, or have never played at all.

For one thing, the former actually works, and the second actually makes things worse.

  35. a19tgg

    a19tgg First Team

The laughable thing is the ‘Keyboard warriors’ aren’t complaining because they can’t ‘take what they dish out’ they’re just amazed online fan criticism would even be in the same galaxy as the consciousness of a pro-athlete. That’s the point, that’s what people are questioning. Do you honestly think people take his comments personally or are hurt by them?

It’s utterly bizarre that a professional footballer would place 0.000000001% of their consciousness into even acknowledging comments on Twitter or an Internet forum, it’s even more bizarre to suggest it could be why they’d move club.

But most bizarre is imagine getting promoted to the premier league and your first thought is some Twitter trolls? He’s doing life very wrong.
