Won't see a penny for him but at least he's gone. What a complete waste of his career so far, disgraceful that we've kept him so long and disgraceful that he hasn't asked for a move, that we know of.
You can blame him for a lack of effort, but I'm not sure if you can blame him for comfortably sitting on a stupidly lucrative contract, any of us would do the same if we had £30k a week thrown in our face!
That's exactly what I'm blaming him for, he's a footballer for **** sake! You can tell a lot about a player if he's happy to sit on his arse and do nothing while collecting the money.
I won't believe a word until WDsport and AL have both announced it. I have heard we have a compulsory buy-back for £15m at the end of the season if he scores <25.
On his way to the airport hopefully. Feet on the seats and made sure everyone sees his expensive bags. He's all class.
Sky Sports reporting this is a three year deal. It is absolutely bonkers that the Pozzos have signed him up for an extra two years. Has contributed so little for the entirety of his time with Watford, and now earns two more years of money. Even if it's a scheme to spread his current contract over more time, I'm just stunned.
Another one where we paid Udinese a boatload only to give them the player back for free. But of course, it's all the same pot of money, so they can go off and sign big fee players for their first team, whilst we can sign free transfers and loans to try and keep us up. But it's all the same pot of money.
Saw this on Twitter and haven’t fact checked it but hell, that’s mad if true: “@BaitVic Isaac Success started twice as many league games in his final season at Granada (28) than he did in five years at #watfordfc (14). What a waste of everyone's time.”
If he gets his head right and realises to date he's pissed his career up the wall, I actually think he will score a lot of goals in Italy.
Of course the other way to look at it is that at least having a relationship with Udinese means there's someone who will take him off Watford's hands because clearly there's been no interest in Success at his current cost. Even if there's little benefit financially, at least he's not hanging around not contributing anything. I imagine the 'additional' year at Udinese was the sweetener to persuade him to go, otherwise he could have just sat tight until his Watford contract expired. The difficulty of shifting high-ish earners on long-ish contracts who do not need or want to go anywhere is apparent.
Notwithstanding the fact Success came from Granada, with Pereyra, Deulofeu, Pussetto, Okaka and Zeegelaar all in and around the Udinese first team their supporters may well still see it differently. Someone I know who goes to a lot of Udinese games said that a couple of years or so ago there was considerable bitterness that Watford was the Pozzos' favourite child. The fact we could relatively easily offload two high earners after relegation without having to rely on the whims of the open transfer market was undoubtedly a plus. I suspect that, like most things, the relationship between the two clubs has its positives and negatives and is neither wholly good nor wholly bad.
And the fact that we have had to take out a loan because they can’t afford to pay us for them - is that a plus too? And that’s before even going into whole Pussetto debacle.
Surely still better than having them both fiddling around in the Championship, no? Strikes me as more of a cash flow issue
I really would love an explanation of what was going on in the mind of the person who decided to give this **** a 5 year contract when he had 3 years remaining
Wasn’t the only one was he ?’ Seemed the ones who played the least celebrated the most ! And Chalobah who probably won’t play again.
Can't wait for the next accounts to come in order for us to make an educated guess at how much we got for him
I remember watching him, Peñaranda and Doucoure at Granada. Doucoure was already near to being the finished article but Peñaranda and Success looked like such promising talents. It's such a shame that both of them appear to be mentally weak because there is no doubt in my mind that there was/are decent footballers in there somewhere. Poor decision making both on and off the pitch has cost them, and us, dearly.
A shame. As said above, there's a great player in there that's been nearly wasted completely now. Weren't there whispers of Man Utd interest in him at one point?
