Watfords clear, meticulous and detailed transfer policy would have a quality replacement lined up at 1/3 the price of Sarr. We'd be making a move within hours. Right? Or "Ken mate, you'll be starting wide right the weekend".
One things certain, we’ll be wanting to get him to extend his deal if we don’t want it to be his last season with us. Would be mental to let an asset like him go down to less than 2 years.
Agreed, I think with Hughes there's a small chance of us being able to get a replacement in (or keeping Chalobah, which would mean our midfield wouldn't be so thin), but Sarr is a lot harder to replace. Danjuma would be pretty much like for like, but a) I'm sure other, bigger clubs are interested, and b) would Bournemouth want to let him go late in the window when they can't get a replacement for him?
Last I read, Villarreal had bid £13m and been told the price was £35m. If that’s in any way accurate, I’d say he’s going nowhere and it’s likely Bournemouth are gambling on keeping him financially.
I think the £35m piece was bs. Local journos and the Athletic repeatedly reported that they were looking for £20m or so if I recall correctly.
Maybe you’re right - but I’d be surprised if £20m gets Danjuma. I think he’d have moved by now it it did.
Don't Bournemouth need to sell? They've got King off the wage bill, sold Surridge to Stoke for a fee of £5.5m apparently (though who knows what the initial fee is), but has anyone else gone?
They probably do, but this season is their last realistic chance of going for promotion, next season will be their final season of parachute payments if they don't go up, so they will need to reset from scratch.
Don’t think many there are too many clubs out there who Danjuma would improve and are willing/able to spend say £25m+ on a single player this summer. Maybe a few PL clubs but that’s it. Think they’ll sell him and it’ll be less than £20m personally.
Then we should flog Hughes and Chalobah and get what we can for all our other dross and be the club that does it. That said, I don’t agree with your stance. I’d place a wager with you but I’ve been stung on that before!
Well, I saw four making their debuts on Saturday who were neither mediocre nor poor. But who didn't cost a bomb, if that's your criterion. Admittedly we didn't offload Gray.
Indeed, they're in a precarious place, but there's a very good chance they go up. Early days, but I'd make Fulham big favourites for promotion, but the other two relegated teams look to be works in progress...can they get themselves sorted out like we did, or will they leave the door open for Bournemouth to get promoted?
Yes to some degree it's subjective until we get relegated or we stay up with ease. I have to credit Dennis and Etebo. They really did play well. I will be happily proved wrong about them (they are only part of the transfer window though.) If they play like that all season then they will prove me wrong. Especially Dennis. Cucho and Kucka i've not really included in my previous criticism but were also excellent. Dennis the biggest shock though and was much more effective playing in that central forward role. The question is still out there. Whilst I never subscribed to the management building a team to the championship theory, I still hold that week in and week out we need better quality than we currently have and that's where my opinion and the management's diverge. I enjoyed saturday though and long may it continue.
We certainly need more quality (if not necessarily better quality) in the midfield, as it currently stands if we pick up an injury or a card, we're much weaker for it
Liverpool's hopes of signing Watford winger Ismaila Sarr have been boosted with the 23-year-old Senegal forward telling the Hornets he wants to leave. (Express) I really hope this is the usual BBC + Express idiocy. Why would Liverpool even want him? Why would he leave now? I hope this isn't where the Tufan and Lyanco money is coming from. I imagine that all those hopes will be wrong. He's probably going to V*lla for 20k.
It’s says their source for saying he wants to leave is this: https://m.transfermarketweb.com/pre...still-interested-with-watford-s-winger-218084
Let's be honest his first half performance alone will have bigger clubs interested. I still believe we will get one more season out of him. If I were Gino I'd have a new contract for him with massive incentives and a buy out clause installed for the end of the season.
I dont think £40 million is enough now, add another £35 million on top and a sell on clause then we can talk.
Sarr is an outstanding player, the only reason we have him is because we took a chance on him, if we sell him there is very little to no chance we will turn that cash immediately into as good as replacements for the team, he is the one player we have that can win us points on his own! He is to us what Saha is to Palace!
That would be a complete forward line missing for the AFCON. Admittedly they will still have Firmino and Jota.
Zaha gets paid mega bucks, and is essentially trapped at Palace. I'd like to think Sarr, having stayed and toughed it out in the Championship, sees the merits in having another season in playing 38 games in the Prem rather than sitting on Liverpool's bench. If we paid £15m for him then £40m is a decent return. Making a £5/10m profit on him seems almost pointless
I'd be alright with him leaving for 55-60 mil at the end of this season if we stay up, so the Pozzos could get quality reinvestment all over the pitch (especially if Pedro and Louza both turn out well, we get Lyanco and Tufan and the new signings are as good as their first impressions). In that scenario we could have a quality top-10 side, but it relies on staying up this season, and for that we need Sarr. His value is also likely to rise quite significantly this year.
Ha ha, a week ago we were talking about relegation the most likely outcome of this season and now the top 10!? Simple steps, but I have no doubt that our final position this season will rest heavily upon Sarr's performances/contribution. That is enough for Gino to say no to any offer. January will be the time to assess, if we are bottom 3 it could be that Sarr leaves as we would get more in January than we would next summer if we go down again. If we are clear of the drop zone, no money could be offered to effectively endanger our chances of staying up. In which case he will be gone next summer.
I can see the days of massive transfer fees coming to an end in the next few years. It is already starting to change. Barcelona and Real Madrid have been playing fantasy football on the transfer market and they are in serious financial trouble. This will have a trickle down impact. The Clubs owned by oil rich states, will keep prices somewhat inflated for a period, but I believe financial fair play rules will eventually be implemented properly and that will again reduce the transfer fees. If you time the disposal of valuable players (assets) correctly, you can find yourself in a comfortable position. There is some hedging going on at the moment and I would be surprised if Liverpool offer big money for Sarr, but we will see over the next two weeks. I sincerely hope he stays, but that will depend on the financial mindset of the owners and of course Sarr’s own attitude. He seems happy at the moment .
