Bodies in the door at this point, apart from anything else - I'd definitely take him, anyway, though as lr has said we're probably fishing in an entirely different pond finance-wise.
We need to shift some bodies, especially midfielders as we need more quality here but have a big stockpile. If Hughes is refusing to sign, then let’s find a suitor. Can’t be that hard to find someone willing to pay? AL says he’s in talks with a couple of teams. Same goes for Chalobah. TDB needs a good loan. Re. Quina, it’s time to s*** or get off the pot. Is he a prospect? Then tell Xisco he’s staying and we have high expectations. Not up to it for whatever reason? Then get a good fee. No point loaning him out in his final year of contract or leaving him watching from the stands all season. Does Zinckernagel have much chance of playing? If not then Forest seem keen to take him. The squad is so bloated and we have to address that before we address the lack of quality.
Midfield isn’t where the squad is bloated. No point in shifting out midfield depth. Attack is where we need to lose players most. That’s just a given at this point.
Unfortunately it's not as easy as clicking a button saying 'Offer to Clubs', none of these players are good enough for clubs to be falling over themselves trying to sign them way before the close of the window
We have 10 with Kucka - how is that not bloated? I don’t disagree that we need to shift attackers as well but it would seem our recruitment of forwards is done, at least. We still probably need another midfielder.
We need to accept that we’re better off being rid of the wages than being stuck with players that don’t want to be here. Clubs will always be interested if the price is right.
Looks like Gino’s about to pull off an amazing signing: https://www.marca.com/en/football/barcelona/2021/08/05/610c11f9268e3e1c058b45dc.html
So I said that I thought Joveljic didn't look all that, and to prove the point he's just been sold permanently to LA Galaxy in the friggin MLS. "Super talented" my foot. https://mobile.twitter.com/eintracht_eng/status/1423316750666448898?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1423316750666448898|twgr^|twcon^s1_&ref_url=
Lionel "Blair" Messi is available on a free as Barcelona are not allowed to sign him due to being more or less bankrupt. Gino would be foolish not to attempt to sign himimho. Ok, I know he isnt the proven Prem quality a lot of you crave but from what I have seen of him he could be quite useful even at his age. There are videos of him on youtube if you want to go look.
I’ve been reading the threads with interest, but I’m confused over one aspect of what our transfer policy should be, for this season. Could someone clarify for me? We have have a young player in position X who shows promise. We identify an much older player, who we can afford, who club believes is better in position X, and who is willing to come to Watford. Do we: a) Buy him to strengthen the squad, or b) Not buy him because to do so would block the younger player’s route into the team?
Imo it wouldn't block the younger player if they're good enough. Kucka has come in because of two midfielders who have left the club in limbo. Not saying they shouldn't do this but it's making it even harder for us to recruit with our very limited budget.
Does anyone know if Walace at Udinese qualifies for a work permit? I wouldn't bet against him making the move here later in the window mainly because he'd cost Gino the square root of **** all. Except wages obviously which will probably be less than what Hughes is on now.
Yeah I think I mentioned him last week. No issue with WP any more under the new system as noted above. A similar profile of midfielder to Yokuslu (I think @reids posted his statsbomb radar and they were similar in style and quality) but Yokuslu would probably need less time to adapt given his experience last year. That said, the Pozzos generally haven’t transferred players who are first choice at Udinese here. WTE maybe an exception.
True. Bonifazi I think. But he was still a fixture of the first team. My point was mainly that it’s quite rare for is to actually get the pick of the Udinese litter so signing Walace might not be that simple.
The pick of the litter? Well there aren't that many to chose from as some have already left and there were many games they started with up to 6 ex Watford players. So not many to choose from.
Sargent seems set for Norwich for £8.5m, seems a pretty poor signing for a fairly substantial fee. https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/usm...ahead-of-imminent-/1ol5a1iwxotyb1bhy2woz2hipm
yeah I would never want us to pay that. I think he will become a decent striker, and I’m interested to see how he does. Less than £5mil, I would have wanted us to do it.
Sargent, 5 goals last season = £8.5m Joelinton, 7 goals in the season before his move = £40m £8.5m might seem like a lot, but you could do far worse.
