If we were a mid-table side and looking to progress then I wouldn't be that bothered about missing out on Yokuslu, but he seems like the perfect signing for a team who is going to be up against it next season. He wants to come and is cheap plus I can't see his wages being enough to seriously trouble us. Obviously I don't know the state of play and we might have someone even better lined up, but I'll be disappointed if the club manage to miss out on this one. It'll be even worse when he turns up at Palace!
It was absolutely worth the tweet as it generates a few clicks for an article he's written. That is after all the point of working for the Athletic - driving users to subscribe.
End of the day we would be worse off without him as he is the only half decent Watford correspondent, and I understand that he needs to make a living, but some of his articles / updates really are utterly pointless.
There is no new article. He’s tweeted a vague statement and then linked an old article (which is also vague).
As good as done as far as I’m concerned. Welcome Okay! Mods please change from reported to confirmed.
Why would he be at the ground though? Maybe being lined up for the vacant assistant groundsman role ?
Pretty sure I saw him today on the Celta Vigo pre-season Instagram videos. I could be wrong, the guy doesn't have a lot of standout features.
l wont believe it until that bloke goes jogging to London Colney and sees a refelection in one of the windows that looks a bit like how he thinks Yokuslu might look.
Don't believe it until you spot him pedalling alongside our Cycling GK in Vicarage Road. You know the ropes. "Okay! You are a ledge...you little beauty...sign this training top. Believe me this man is a baller" etc, etc, etc!
From Sky’s transfer centre: Watford and Wolves are interested in signing Celta Vigo’s Okay Yokuslu. One source has told Sky Sports Watford are preparing to make a bid for the Turkey international. Yokuslu is said to be valued by the Spanish club in the region of just £5m and is keen to return to the Premier League. He impressed on loan at West Brom last season despite their relegation.
Yeah not great if Wolves really are interested although that report suggests that our interest is a little more concrete. I’m still surprised that Wolves haven’t picked up Mendes client Florentino Luis who was going to be Portugal next big thing at CM but has fallen out of favour and didn’t have a great loan spell. Wouldn’t mind us going for him if they don’t.
This guy is being mentioned in every other post, but I had never heard of him, and he has mostly played in Turkey and for a relegated West Brom. I doubt he is the saviour
As I remember, it was reported at the time that we actually sent Ellington out on a couple of loans with relatively decent fees (memory says Derby was one, can't remember the others). I think we got close to what we paid for him back in loan fees. Ellington was undoubtedly a worse player than Gray, but worst player and worst transfer aren't necessarily the same thing. I think Gray has been by far the worse transfer once you factor in cost and wages.
Wales were absolute ****, but Giggs was incredibly good. Even the best players can't make a crap team into world beaters by themselves.
It's a well known fact that if a player is relegated they are automatically a shyt player, for example Sarr, Danjuma and Buendia.
If I’m being positive: Wolves aren’t interested and Yokuslu’s agents / Celta Vigo are trying to encourage us to hurry up and open the bidding.
We should definitely buy a 34 year old and put him on a two year deal over coughing up a couple of extra million for a younger player who's proven he can handle this level. Ponzo and Duckberry know what they're doing, as ever.
They are very different kinds of players and would fill different roles for the team. Kucka would be one of the 8s getting in the box etc and Yokuslu would be the DM breaking up play out of possession. I hope/suspect we are going for both.
Kucka will be a useless old waste of space who we'll be lumbered with until he's 36 because our board are completely insane when it comes to handing out contracts to pensioners.
How long does it take to prepare a bid?! We've been linked with this guy for a while now and have even met his agent already.
