Bailey isn't even close to the player Grealish is. Surely they have another transfer up their sleeve.
I wonder why the Sarr to Villa stories only surfaced once the Bailey deal was almost done? I get that there's been progress on the Grealish to City front, but that deal has always been possible
BTW, what's with all this business with clubs announcing that the deal has been agreed but not finalised? Up until now haven't deals only been announced when they're finalised?
And to think we dealt with Norwich rather easily twice last season, without him they'll really struggle!
Nonetheless he's still our best hope of scoring and creating enough goals to stay up. By far our biggest threat.
Pretty obvious I would’ve thought? Because he’d be our only saleable asset of any value and we’d have no choice but to sell him to plug the financial gap again. That and the fact he’d only have two years left on his contract at that stage means it would no longer be a choice not to sell him like it was last relegation season, we would have to sell him which would naturally affect the price fairly significantly. The power would’ve shifted to the buying clubs compared to this season or last season. Obviously we wouldn’t be able to tie him to a new contract as a championship club and he wouldn’t sign one, so if we don’t sell him in that window then we find ourselves in the Hughes situation and he goes for next to nothing a year later. That would dictate the price being somewhat lower than it would be now when we still have the choice not to sell him. That and the small matter that it would be his 2nd relegation in three seasons, we’d hardly be in a position to get £50m for him would we? £25m would be the absolute maximum all things considered.
I reckon it’s got something to do with social media. The club announces the deal has been agreed, so get one round of hits from interested fans, and then get another when they announce the transfer is complete.
I know United used to have to announce things in this manner because they were listed on the stock exchange and it was something to do with that.
I look forward to a month's hand-wringing over whether Sarr will be sold or not... followed by a brief 1 month respite, whereupon it will commence again until February
Apparently Spuds are willing to take Sarr for 50M plus. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/08/10/ismaila-sarr-tottenham-watford/?amp
I hope the plus is one of those machines that fill a pint glass from the bottom. Having those at the Vic would make it feel like a proper Premier League season.
I can’t envisage anyone would pay what we did for him in the post Covid landscape, but you are right if we can break even then we will snap their hands off.
If they sell Kane for crazy money it might not be impossible, they could do with another right winger. They've also been linked with players like Damsgaard and Madueke though so hopefully this comes to nothing.
£50m deposited straight into the bank in one go. Or £50m in instalments and Bergwijn for the season. Deal or no deal.
