I am pleased with this signing. Has a point to prove.

Regarding Capoue I always got the impression he liked being a big fish in a small pond here.

Some Spanish media outlets today and yesterday stated that Real Betis were in for him. Whether it’s true or not who knows. Considering they finished in one of the European places, I think that’s a decent gauge to say, what kind of clubs were in for/looking at him.

Question for everyone, would you rather King or Toney as our starting striker?

Personally I would much rather King be our starting striker than Toney. King has proven himself in the Prem multiple seasons. Toney is an unknown. Can he do it in the Prem? Maybe, but I’m not convinced. Personally think he will struggle. Up against much stronger defences, will be manmarked in most games, Brentford will do more defending than attacking, and he won’t have the space he was given in the championship because teams were scared of him and Brentford. Of course I could be completely wrong and he bags 15 odd goals and this comment will look stupid, but that’s my thought right now.

King simply knows what it takes to be successful in the Prem. If AL article in the Athletic is true and King is fired up, ready to go, excited to be here and all that good stuff, then we’ve given ourselves a very good chance of staying in the Prem with King signing for us.

Would take Toney all day long, that’s not to say I think King is a bad signing.

    Why though?

Not arguing, genuine question. I’m interested to know your thought(s) behind that.

Toney is 25 vs King 29

King scored 6 goals in four seasons in the championship with Blackburn, Toney scored 30 in one season.

Now I know King scored 16 in one PL season which Toney has never done, but that was very much the high water mark and it’s been downhill from there.

I think all things considered Toney has the far greater upside potential at this point in time, just because King once scored 16 in a season there are no guarantees he’ll ever come close to that again.

it’s very much an opinion though, and looking at who I think could achieve more from here on in

Good signing. Probably the pinnacle of what business we can achieve with our budget and current status as relegation probables.

    Toney clearly.

Last season King didn't score in 584 minutes for Muff, while Toney scored a goal every 125 minutes for Brentford (or every 188 minutes if you exclude penalties). So Toney would have got 3 open play goals during the time King was blanking.

King has been good in the past, but he's probably beyond his peak.

Toney will for sure find it much more difficult next season, and looked a bit burned out at the end of last season, but I think he still has more upside in future.

It will be interesting to see how they fare next season of course. Though if King scores more than Toney it could just be because we currently appear to be strengthening our team more than Brentford.

Of course Toney . But it is not an option anymore than Kane signing is .
For sure tho King is an upgrade on Trondre Success .

On the contrary, he was on his hot streak prior to reverting to the mean with us! I suppose Ighalo's form came completely out of the blue, although he was younger than King at the time

I was joking, but perhaps his next club will get that hot streak again...

Ighalo had a freak 12 months for sure.

Yeah - their whole front 3 went off the boil at the same time. I also dont think we can really judge him too heavily on what happened at Muff this season. He went from having Man U interested in him to being relegated and Bournemouth blocking his exit despite some fairly reasonable bits for him. Capoue looked pretty ***** with us and then went on and bossed the EL final.

Its hard to really assess what happened at Everton without anyone of us knowing what happened behind the scenes. Ancelotti was supposedly interested enough to come back in for him in January having had bids turned down in the summer, but then he proceeded to basically never play him despite Everton being in ******* awful form.

I don't think we will necessarily see that 16 goal a season Josh King again, but I also don't think he is as bad as he has looked the last 12 months. I do think he improves our starting 11 which is more than can be said for most of our transfer business this summer.

I know Brentford are planning to sign Nigerian international Frank Onyeka from their sister club Midtjylland, but he doesn't automatically qualify for a work permit I don't think. Nothing better as a fan than a play-off final victory, but as a club, it's far better to get promoted automatically!

King hasn't been interested in playing for Muff ever since they blocked his move to Man Utd. As we saw with Capoue (and to a lesser extent Doucoure), an unmotivated player just doesn't perform.

Whether or not he'll turn it on for us remains to be seen.

As far as Toney is concerned, there's a bit of a question mark over him and Brentford at the moment. The Brentford team is set up to aggressively create chances for the striker. Gray would have scored a lot more with them than he would with us, for example.

Whether or not Brentford will be able to continue to play like that in Prem and enjoy success is something we're about to see. Brentford's approach in the Championship has essentially been to outgun everyone they play. Chances are that won't work in the Premier League, unless the teams outside the top 6 are a lot weaker than usual.

  24. Brentford are used to having the ball. They will learn very quickly in the PL it is the opposition who have the ball. How that affects Toney will be interesting to see.

This is a decent signing . Not sure what people were expecting but as far as getting a proven premier league scorer this is probably about as good as we are gonna be able to sign . If he can find his form again will get a few goals and could be vital
    in keeping us up .

Better than anyone we have, about as good a signing as I would have thought we could make

Interesting we are in for tall strikes. Fletcher and king are both close to 2m, I'm guessing that we can expect that to be a bigger part of our game next year

King is good signing and he is eager to prove people wrong after last season - he has a physical presence and pace …. Oh and he can control a football - he will do well for us and I can see him, as out main no.9 getting around 12 goals for us in the league which will be very welcome

Good point. They were fifth in the Championship for possession after all. Luckily, we were sixth with a fraction less possession each game, so we're on easy street. Wouldn't want to be in their shoes going forwards!

******* hell this has broken a dream for me, seeing his name on the forum. It was from a few night ago, I’m on a new antihistamine so I’m having weird dreams.

Him and Mason Mount combined for King to score a hat trick against us at Filbert Street for an unidentified team in blue…. Yeah I have plot holes in my dreams. It included a lovely one two and him blasting one in with his left foot.

Anyway, a good omen for you no doubt.
