I love it when you get wound up and proved wrong, you just turn angry and start questioning other people’s brain power.
You didn’t like it when we signed Sarr saying we should have signed a few players instead of one. You now say we should put all our eggs in one basket and sign one expensive player rather than a few cheaper ones. Would you prefer we signed somebody for £20m and nobody else?

So in answer to my final question, your answer is 'no,' you don't comprehend. Got it.

There is a middle ground between spending all our money on one player, and spending all our money on 10+ players. I think that was the fairly simple point being made.

16 goals in the prem in a season must be the best record of any player we have had on our books in the Pozzo era?

We should have signed him for sure.

Until he smashes the Prem and it looks like another genius move from Gino.

    Partly true.
He was not the only player to going knocking on Eddie Howe's door at the beginning of that season. The wage structure unsettled a number of players as promises made were not met.

Having missed out on Balotelli, i think this is a good rebound signing. He has quality, he just needs to kick start his career. If he looks at the move as a stepping board to maybe one last lucrative contract, he might grab the chance and prove to be a very astute signing.

I think, for free, he is a very good signing. He is a player who can score goals in the prem (can control a ball) and who could thrive in the right team, and who at his stage of career knows he will need to do well. It seems that several on here merely look at the stats they see in their football computer game and draw their conclusions without any reference to the player's proven ability.

I wish there were loads of proven, in form, goalscorers just queuing up to join our newly promoted club. I wish their current owners were all desperate to let them go for far less than their market price so we could afford them. I also wish I could end world poverty and stop all wars and violence. The chance of any of these wishes coming true is absolutely nil. So we have to compromise, just like 99% of the teams in the league

So far, we've gone for a mix of young players with potential, and proven players that have shown a lack of form recently, whilst improving the depth of the squad.

I don't see what else we can do.

And, looking at the current squads, I don't see us being relegated.

That's a fair point about Wilson - he did also look crap in his last season at Muff but turned it around at Newcastle.

However, King didn't look like similarly rediscovering his form at Everton.

I guess it could still be that he just needs another PL-level pre-season where he actually gives a crap this time.

It will get bumpy at times but I’m sure this squad can reach 40 points, and in parallel Gino and Dux can get the clubs finances back on track

That will make it a successful season in my book

I think this is an excellent signing. Was valued at over £10m only 12 months ago, and we've moved in and landed him as a free agent. I'm sure he would have had other options, so we've done well in getting him.

He always gave us problems when we played Bournemouth. I remember being happier when his name was not on the team sheet when we played them. Ok, he may have lost his way a little and it didn't go well for him at Everton, but we all know what type of club they are. They don't value decent players if they don't pull up trees every week. Look at how they treated Cleverley?

This has reassured me that we've upgraded the forward line. With Dennis and Sarr on either flank, this could actually be quite exciting. Certainly we'll have some pace going forward.

I'm actually amazed how well the club have recruited on such a low budget. We know the players we're signing are presumably agreeing to a 50% salary reduction if we are relegated, so that's quite a good selling job we've done on them.

Have we finished with our recruitment? Maybe, however, I'm not convinced we've replaced the quality of Doucoure, Capoue and Deulofeu just yet, but we may have enough to avoid relegation and that's all that matters this season, although the AFCON absentees could have a negative impact.

No, you just clearly can't understand anything outside of a totally black or white division between 'sign expensive players' or 'sign **** players.'

That's your call, but I'm not going to fit into those neat boxes for you just because you lack the imagination to understand wider concepts beyond that.

No, not the club shop worker, security guard, tea lady or a disgruntled fan.
It became common knowledge in the end. I believe it was 6 players seeking better wages.
This insider is also lukewarm with the appointment of Scott Parker.

Very good signing given the circumstances. You would have to be unintelligent to think we could do better than this.

A lot of pace in our team, should be fun to watch!

I never could quite understand the hype over King, always seemed to me that bournemouth had a better forward in Wilson. Was confused when Man Utd wanted him tbh. Having said that hes got a good record for someone costing nothing. A better record than Gray for example and I suspect can swing a banjo and hit a barn door better than Gray. If we spent 18m on him I would be worried ita another Gray, but for free? Great signing.

You can view 2 sides of it, signing many players for free or low prices might mean they're all ****. Or it might mean your eggs are spread across many baskets. Comes down to glass half full or empty.

I've always had a philosophy that as a club we can't buy the very best players so need to spread our bets a little. I would certainly feel more comfortable if we had a signing like Deulofeu incoming and not just players who were good 2 years ago or have potential to be good in 2 years time.

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Was linked with United because of the Norway connection with Solskjaer (not sure if he was at the club at the time, but he's always had that connection with them). Was pessimistic when I first heard about him, slept on it a bit and, well, it's about as good as we're likely to get, not expecting another 16 goal season but if he's got anything left he could be alright. Surely better than Deeney in 19/20 which is something, and Sierralta is an upgrade on that defence too, but I'm a little concerned about the midfield and left-wing

I think we went down partially becauae our real quality got injured or wasnt interested (Deulofeu, Pererya, Capoue). I think we now have a squad that is likely to be in the bottom 5. Who knows if Sarr or one of the unknown new guys can provide that extra magic regularly to make it 15th or not (18th-20th).

I wouldn’t say Capoue no, he performed as well for us as he did for Spurs, but a lot, lot more was expected of him under a Poch managed Spurs than at a Watford.

Not sure about that? He came with a very high pedigree from Toulouse with the Bale money and Spurs fans didn't seem to rate him at all.....

  35. a19tgg

    a19tgg First Team

He cost Spurs under £10m, he cost us a few million less. He didn’t quite have the drive to make it at a top team team, but served a small team like us very well. He was great value for us, but I don’t think we got anything extra out of him or got him back to a level he’d been at before, we got what we got.

I think it’s entirely different to player who has at some point scored 16 goals in a PL season and then entirely gone off the boil for one reason or another.
