See him more as a direct replacement for DeeKnee. Decent control for a big fella especially on his chest. 8m€ seems far too steep imo for a guy who will be 30 next season. Half that value and it's difficult not to be interested. Again he's certainly better than what we have. I would still want better.
It's Euros that are being reported not pounds, so it's slightly less than that. 8m Euros is a bit under 7m pounds. I agree with your general point though. I'd rather they spent a bit more on someone who is probably better & a bit younger. However it might be that this is as far as our finances can stretch at the moment. He's a decent player though from what I've seen of him, better than we have currently in that position.
I’d wager a fair amount that this is nothing more than agent talk. Plant stories in the media, drum up interest and try and keep the player in the PL.
Guessing he wouldn't be being signed as an investment but more as an immediate impact player. If he scores about 8-10 goals next season and we stay up then it's immaterial what his longer term drop off in value is from the initial £7m. Would clearly be direct competition to Deeney though (given that he's going nowhere) so fair chance we sign him and then never really give him a chance, despite a misfiring front line!
#Watfordfc are close to signing striker Mbaye Diagne from Galatasaray The 29 yr old spent last season on loan at West Brom where he scored 3 goals in 16 appearances. Source [ @_hakankurt & @transferdahisi] EXCLUSIVE - Mbaye Diagne has accepted a transfer offer from Premier League club Watford. Galatasaray and Watford continue their negotiations.
True…but Leventhal has suggested a deal for a striker may be done within the week. I’m hoping we go for someone better but I wouldn’t completely dismiss this as nonsense. I’d love a starting striker who would be an obvious starter if fit - but I think the club want to operate with a bunch of strikers who will all feel like they could get a game. Diagne would fit in with that ethos.
Yep....I think this is the striker AL was alluding to. Personally, I'm not jumping up and down with excitement, however, I do think he'll be decent for us. I expect our central forward options will be Diagne, Deeney, Fletcher and Cucho. With Dennis, Pedro, Baah, Sarr, Hungbo and maybe Sema as options from the flanks.
He did seem to give West Brom something up front but wasn't a great team to play in. Think he had a few goals disallowed by VAR so will fit right in!
Hard to tell how reliable the source is - at first glance it appears to be one of the kind of twitter accounts that posts loads of random rumours every day to try and get clicks and in the hope that they're occasionally accurate.
Don't see it myself, especially when the club is coming off of 2 large loss making seasons and will hardly be flush with cash
If he signs, I'd expect it will be a similar deal to the one West Brom had last season. A loan with an option to buy. He's not a bad player and certainly an upgrade on Gray, Fletcher and Deeney. However, I am a little surprised at the profile of player we're going for, if this turns out to be true. With Deeney and Fletcher already on the books, that's the "target man" position covered. I would have thought we'd be looking to get someone of similar attributes to Gray, but with better technical ability of course. Cucho fits the bill, but I'd have thought we'd go for a similar type of player to him as an alternative. Seeing as we're in for another striker, that makes me think Dennis is coming as the wide forward/winger on the left side, even though he considered a central striker. I doubt we'd be signing another striker if we see Dennis as a centre forward.
Cucho's attributes are nothing similar to Gray's - Gray is a crap footballer but gets in to good scoring positions with a poacher's instinct, while Cucho is a decent footballer with good dribbling, but gets in to few scoring positions and lacks a poacher's instinct.
You disagree with Rous? Hold on to your hats people, a mirrored heatmap is getting knocked up as we speak.
With which bit? I've explained how their attributes aren't similar. Please explain how their attributes are similar.
That's a very polite way of putting 'a bunch of cheap alternatives, none of whom are quite good enough, but who are each capable of possibly one or two decent games per season.'
I have no idea, but I'll always believe they're shyte until they prove otherwise over a sustained period of 3-5 seasons.
Yes, but slightly less shyt than Gray, Perica and Success to fool the fans into thinking this is a good signing.
It’s the reverse Fletcher. He looks like a slight upgrade on what we have but importantly with the potential to go on and actually be worse than those we’ve already got. Let’s call it an un-calculated risk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If the club aren't able to bring in one CF who'll stand a very good chance of being decent (e.g. Abraham or Seferovic ), then I'd rather they signed lots of inexpensive alternatives who've shown a few glimpses to suggest they might do alright, as opposed to just sticking with what we currently have which is most definitely not good enough. It's not an ideal approach, but there might be a slim chance that one of them could hit a purple patch at some point. Worst case, if none of them are capable of more than one or two decent games per season each then we can just try and sign 19 of them and it should guarantee a mid-table finish!
