Can I also please suggest a forum suspension/ban for anyone who continues to suggest Abraham as an actual serious option? There have been quite a few on here now who have said it already and it's completely nuts.

He should thank his family for their service and move to AC Milan.

I'm aware your comment might be a bit tongue-in-cheek, but genuine question - which potentially feasible striker(s) do you think we should sign?

I genuinely have no idea. I just find it extremely tedious being constantly linked to - or even signing, in Fletcher's case - strikers who are clearly complete and utter garbage and who are 99.9% certain to only add to our ever growing sh*t heap of woefully incompetent forwards, year in, year out.

At some point Pozzo is going to have to put his hand in his pocket and go out and spend some money on a forward who has at least a decent record in one of the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga or La Liga, and stop wasting money on crap from the Timbuktu league who scored 10 goals in 35 games.

It still might not work out, but it'll be far more likely to improve us than the constant desperate punts on the sort of bargain bin, circus clown strikers we've been bringing in for about 5 years now.

Pozzo doesn’t put his hand in his pocket. If we buy a £30m striker then it will be financed by debt.

Your permanent whinging without making any suggestions to the contrary is a major cop-out.

    Why is it?

We are just followers of the club. Not scouts or employees. It’s not our job to identify better targets - that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t offer opinions on the names being linked if we believe they aren’t up to the standards we personally expect. It’s perfectly fair to say there’s a minimum criteria we would want an incoming striker to fulfil without having to resort to names.

Paul Onuachu is probably the kinda punt we'd take, **** league, lots of goals, decent age.

Exactly this. I'm not a scout and, unlike some on here, I don't pretend to have huge knowledge on football outside of this country, but I refuse to believe their aren't some potentially decent options in Spain, Italy or Germany, who would likely come with at least a higher possibility of being a success here having already performed to some degree in one of the top leagues.

Signing players who are in their mid 20's and who have only ever scored a few goals in Denmark, Switzerland, Bosnia or whatever awful league we look for free transfers in - or who players who have an alarmingly crap record in the Championship - is probably only ever going to end in complete failure. This coming season is likely doomed if we don't find a striker who comes in and gets 12-15 goals.

If you know what standards you personally expect then it should be simple to name at least one or two players who would meet those standards.

If you can name those minimum criteria then, again, it should be very straight-forward to identify some players who meet it.

All @NathWFC is doing is giving himself carte blanche to moan repeatedly at whoever we're linked with or sign, as whatever the outcome he can just lazily claim that there should have been someone better we could have signed, when in reality that might not have been the case.

Only 7 players scored 15+ PL goals this season: Kane, Salah, Fernandes, Son, Bamford, Calvert-Lewin and Vardy.

Brighton, Palace, Wolves and Chelsea(!) all did okay with no one scoring over 11.

I don't disagree though, we need a decent striker as a priority or we'll be overly reliant on a defence that is outstanding in the Championship, but may be exposed at a higher level.

It was a freakish season, a lot of games in a short space of time (well, more than normal anyway, not like they had 46 games to play!), so I'm sure the goals will be flowing more freely again next season. A 15 goal striker will be hard to find, but I'm sure there's someone out there for cheap who can net double figures

12 players got 15+ in 2019/20, 8 got 15+ in 2018/19, 7 in 2017/18. This season seems fairly close to standard, it's bloody tough for players to score 15 goals at that level, especially for clubs outside the top 6.

I think the only player in our current squad who'll be threatening double figures is Sarr, as long as his finishing doesn't resort to how it was in the first half of the season. We'd do very well to find a decent PL-level striker for less than £15-20m, which I don't know if we'll be happy to spend

Are you still suggesting we should sign Daryl Dike, or are you concerned that after watching the Swansea game he may not be able to hit a cows arse with a banjo in the PL?

Some of my recent comments about Dike:

"Dike I need to see a bit more of before passing judgement for such a fee. I'll keep my eye on him in the playoffs (assuming Barnsley are in them, hopefully I won't be watching him against us as touch wood we'll be promoted before them)."

"Dike - Orlando/Barnsley - £14mil (though he was poor vs Swansea, I'm still a bit on the fence with him)"

"Hmm, yeah not convinced about Dike."

"Dike being dropped for such a big game is far from a ringing endorsement. Guehi did cometely have him in his pocket first leg"

As has been stated, we pay money to watch the club, we aren’t paid money to scout for the club. If a crap signing is made we’ll call it a crap signing, if a good signing is made then we’ll call it a good signing. Without knowing our exact budget it’s also very difficult to give decent suggestions, but it’s the clubs job to be as creative as possible with this. A free transfer from Boro with a 1 in 5 scoring record one league lower wasn’t a suggestion from any of the stattos on here, who know the inside leg measurement of every overseas player, so it cuts both ways doesn’t it.

Probably our only chance of getting this guy would be in a loan deal and it would still be expensive even then, however IMO if we could pull that off and get him it would be well worth the cost involved.

So after Ugbo decided he could do better and told us it wasn’t happening, I guess we had to set our sights on a more attainable forward of Chelsea’s?

Excellent thread Moog. Thanks for posting. It's good to keep up to date on this transfer.

Here's some recent videos of him.

I don't think he isn't an improvement on what we have right now. This is now fact.

I've just been told that it’s understood Watford will be watching the movements of Ugbo’s Stamford Bridge colleague Tammy Abraham closely with the England international seemingly surplus to requirements under new coach Thomas Tuchel.

This sounds pretty conclusive. They don't need him, we want him. Looks like things are close.
