    Sterling getting a modern penalty..

With VAR might have not been given.

We do have a habit of giving away silly goals.

    Poor from Stones.

Maguire and Stones are very over rated imo.

That was the only way they were going to score so we dutifully obliged.

Southgate as always doesn’t know what to do. Hope Poland drill him a new one but imagine England will win 2-1.

According to Lee Dixon the answer is Jessie Lingard.

I only watched the last half an hour.
Poland looked more than sprightly and could have equalised when some chap ran amok down our left and pulled it back but no `Polish player was on the penalty spot.
Southgate seemed to be having a Woy moment as Kane appeared to be a left winger until he became err a right winger!
Good finish from Maguire but we've seen this movie before.

On 5live Southgate pretty much blamed the goal on Pope for a bad pass to Stones as much as Stones himself.

Have to agree it's so boring to watch. I wish they'd just turn the screw and really go after teams.

I saw some of this match.

I couldn't really care about England, or even perhaps marginally hope they'll lose, so that the English people don't do their celebrations (such as throwing beer and fighting each other).

Also a lot of the England players are such puffed up, egocentric, clack dishes that you hope for them to have their illusions of their own greatness shattered. I therefore had a hearty ha ha over Stones misfortune and was quite pleased Poland equalised.

A third reason for being on the Polish side was the boorish, biased and nationalistic commentary. I cringed at times. There are loads of Polish people in Britain who must have been watching. A more balanced and less foolishly jingoistic commentary was needed, with less cooing and fawning over England megastars and more respect for the opposition. I was therefore glad when the tub-thumping twosome had it stuck up 'em by the equaliser, especially the Billy Britain who was the assistant commentator. He was the worst whoever he was.

And yet, and yet. When the winner went in, there was a slight millisecond of something akin to pleasure. Subconscious I think. So it turns out I am a patriot after all. Who'd have thunk it.

    Lee Dixon, wasn’t it?

The ITV presentation is routinely awful.

Ah I couldn't even be bothered to look. I'd complain, but it'd be dismissed. In the same way the other million complaints I've made have been airily dismissed. And I get weary, caballeros.

Wouldn't it have been nice if rather than washed up Lee bloody Dixon (if he can play for England, so can I), they'd have got a Polish/English bloke in to be the backup. There's loads they could have chosen from, I'm sure. We would get much more analysis and balance, it would almost certainly be cheaper and it would do plenty towards integration and a sense of fairness.

Every England player with the ball was named, but almost always silence during Polish possession. Decisions almost always called for Ingerland unanimously by the patriotic pair.

Once Dixon (I think) howled for an England free kick which wasn't given and pleaded sincerely that he "wasn't just saying that because I'm an England fan..". Like I say, embarrassing.

There was little to no analysis of Polish formation and tactics. They were about as balanced in their commentary as Tommy Mooney. Absolute rubbish. I wonder who it was at ITV who made that decision. Some bloody Tory in a blazer I suppose.

Not much was said about Sterling’s efforts to make sure he won the penalty..

I guess it did look like a foul in real time but the replays showed Sterling made sure there was contact.

Had that been in the Premier league and VAR got involved there might have been more of a debate:

An interesting evolution over four paras. Clive starts off as a class warrior and turns successively into a Laura Norder-loving Express reader, a generous-minded internationalist and finally a true patriot.

I think he must be Moog.

Anyone else bored of the Trent Alexander Arnold debate? Only seems to be Liverpool supporters going on about it.

Monday night football has dedicated about an hour to it all in tonight.

He wasn’t picked as he cannot defend well - I thought that was the reason and also upset Southgate before by pulling out of a squad then playing days later?

It’s like Wan Bissaka isn’t picked as he doesn’t get forward well and Walker is as he can play in a central defender role in a back 3?

If Boothroyd's contract is renewed by the FA, I'd be absolutely appalled.

Consecutive disgraceful performances at major tournaments that he is 100% responsible for, and he claims it's an "impossible job".

    Pathetic excuse.

Time for a new U21 head coach.

Provisional squad named due to the usual pre tournament injury worries and the fact 3 of our clubs are in the European finals.

The usual suspect named with the rest made up of guys called up from the Under 21s (Ramsdale/Godfrey) as cover it seems and Ben White.

7 players to be dropped from the final 26.

Good to see Gareth is getting his excuses in early. I'm sure yet again we'll hear the terms "Young squad" and "Experimental" used extensively over the next few weeks before yet another "Brave" exit after yet another "great learning experience"........

Particularly when we have to play one of Portugal, France and Germany (you know they will turn it on when it matters..) in the 2nd round which is likely if we win our group as expected.

    Final squad of 26:

Got as many right backs as midfielders in the squad.

Lots of players who can fill a number of positions.

Might as well have Ivic in charge.

Southgate heading for a back 5, shoehorning Walker out of position into CB.

If it means getting to the final and a chance to win, its a small price to pay.

Room for 4 right-backs, yet only 2 Centre Forwards!?!

I'm not a huge fan of Watkins, but cutting him to just leave us with Kane and Calvert-Lewin as striker options is just bizarre. If one of them gets injured it will be a major issue.

It reminds me of Eriksson's crap decisions for the World Cup 2006 Squad.

Also although Linegard isn’t in the 26 he’ll play in the friendly tomorrow, because according to Southgate he needs to keep the standby players match fit just in case?

So in the actual squad of 26 who have actually been picked, there won’t be any players that need to stay match fit in case they play?

It doesn't really matter what squad of players he picks. Southgate's is just so boring and sets up to play negative turgid football. It's going to be another competition where we fail.

It is absolutely inconceivable that you guys would not win this competition easily with this squad of players, particularly with the Irish lads you have.
