Their loss. Not worth more than £2mil. If Rangers want to pay more than that, let them.

He will be a starter for them in the SPL, so makes sense. If we sign him, we will loan him to a championship club, which is a level above the SPL, to see what he can do.

I really don’t think we will be buying many players to loan them out again. The squad is quite thin as it is!

Agree, that’s why we won’t do that with many players, if at all, that’s the point I’m making.

He’s not worth more than £2mil because a signing like that, will literally be to loan out to a much tougher league than the SPL (the championship) and see if he can do it there.

If he can, we would make a tidy little profit on him or see if he can do it in the Prem (if we’re still in it). If he can’t, some SPL 2 years from now will buy him back for £2mil.

Either way, he’s definitely not Prem ready. So safe to say this story is poop.

I don't know much about him - and I've never rated the SPL at all. But he's been named the SFA Young Player of the Season and seems very highly rated. I suspect he'd be coming as a squad player and told to prove himself in training etc.

It's certainly a signing that fits the mould of other names we are hearing about in profile.

Maybe. I would be very surprised, and concerned, if were pinning our hopes on a 21 yr old CM from Aberdeen to play a role in helping us stay in the Premier League.

And if he doesn’t prove himself in training/pre-season, he would be told to go on loan.

A few SPL fans have said on Twitter under the article, as well as fans that have retweeted/copied it, have said that he’s not terrible but he’s not as good as McGinn. Not finding much from SPL fans that seem to think he’s good enough for the Prem. The odd comment here and there seem to think he is. Most don’t though from what I’ve seen.

You’re right in saying about the type of player Giaretta has stated we want to sign. Just hope it’s better than this.

Spoke to someone who follows Aberdeen and they said the management has been woeful and Ferguson has been the standout despite playing long ball football up until Glass arrived. Also said his skillset is best as a 6 as he’s very good under pressure and good passer of the ball. Did say a loan to a Fulham or something would be best, and then he’d be ready. But I’m also skeptical in the link itself as it’s quite easy to make. But if we are in for him I do like these kind of deals

This is one of the most promising windows for quite some time. Very refreshing to see us being linked with young players, who are likely to come here with a hunger to develop and succeed at a higher level.

If we follow through, a welcome and necessary change in transfer policy.

Been reading the Aberdeen forums/other social media accounts. A part from a couple fans that think he’s worth £4mil, most are saying they believe they would accept an offer of £2.5-3mil.

Their fans seem to think that would be a fair price for him. Also seeing them state that they wouldn’t begrudge him moving to a Prem team, but feel the top half of the championship is probably more his level right now.

Really struggling to see any benefit in signing him. When money is already tight, £2.5-3mil on a player that doesn’t make us immediately better is a waste. That fee would approx. equate to paying a player a weekly salary of £48-58k p/w for a year. That sort of salary a year would get you a much better player. Would rather us spend that £2.5-3mil on a salary of a better player. Much better use of the money.

^^^ hopefully that makes sense to people what I’m trying to say.

Got no problem with this, we certainly need some younger legs in midfield.

True. Lots of good noises. We know we won’t sign anyone until deadline day when we bring in 3 peripheral guys from Udinese, but still, good links so far :).

Some very tidy finishes here. Yes it's a farmers' league but even so, looks a threat from corners, scored a free kick and quite a few improvised finishes that require excellent technique.

At 21 he’s at a good age, but would be one for the future. Can’t be earmarked as a first team ready player, because he’s not.

Giaretta did say we’d only be signing players who were better than what we already have, so Fergusson could only be for the academy I would have thought.

He's pushing 150 games in his career at the age of 21 and is an U21 international. I very much doubt he'd join to play in our U23s or be shipped out on loan.

Maybe, but it would be a strange signing on the face of it, after Giaretta’s quote. He wouldn’t be an upgrade on what we already have, but would be a cheap addition who could improve over time to hopefully become useful to us.

When have we ever spent any money on a player for the academy? They're all either our own or cast offs from elsewhere. We're certainly not going to buy someone for a few million and put them in our u23s, and don't think anyone that's playing regular senior football would accept that.

I enjoyed him somehow appealing for the goal despite it not being anywhere close. We need that kind of blind optimism in the face of all available evidence at Watford. Bring him in.

Who knows. They want to strengthen the U23’s, but yes, this signing would probably be for the first team. However, he’ll probably end up being similar to Quina or Wilmot. Not quite trusted enough to make the cut on match day.

A good punt of a signing but we have to be looking to sign a couple of oven-ready players to replace Doucoure and Capoue. Midfield is so important to get right. We need to be strong in this area if we are to remain in the EPL beyond one season.

This type of signing is building for the Championship. Young, lots of potential, worth getting in now for a couple of million while we have the lure of PL football and the money to fund it. We need to make sure if we go down immediately we have a good enough squad but which is also affordable. And this type of signing ticks that box.

I don't say that as a negative. We need to a bit of that and handful of first team ready signings too.

‘Oven ready’ means as yet not cooked or ready. I’d prefer sizzling, moist players ready to get out there with two veg and some stuffing, if we have to use such analogies.

Maybe they think he can make an impact? I don't know anything about him other than what the headline stats say, so would be interested to know where this idea that's he's not ready comes from.

One would presume he'd be coming in to compete with Cleverley who, despite a good season, feels more of a squad player than a starter back in the Premier League.

And I think he would be an entirely different signing from Quina and Wilmot who were both signed when much younger and with far less senior football to their name.

Maybe more analogous to Berghaus. Will divide the forum in similar ways.

Scotland still produces some good players. The best prospect in Scotland is likely to be a decent player and the highlights are entertaining to say the least.

With people saying he is a 6, is he not going to be more to compete / back up Hughes - especially as we don't really have anyone in that role now.

On the other hand we have Clevs, Gosling, Chalobah, Zinckernagel (and Quina and Dele Bashiru at a push) for the two more advanced positions.

But 'being better than what we already have' could well equate to meaning that he's better than Crichlow, Phillips and possibly an increasingly ageing Carlos Sanchez as well. Gently upgrading the squad in the background with young players who have impressed elsewhere and have plenty of scope for growth is no bad thing at all.

Money may well be far tighter than in previous years at this level - but I doubt £2.5m is a huge issue at all and wouldn't affect other deals whatsoever.

Do you seriously think he meant that? It was clear he meant upgrading the first team so it would cope better with the higher standard of opposition we'll be facing next season. He didn't mean signing players would were better than Critchlow & Phillips.

We can buy players to strengthen the first team and players like this without one affecting the other, it’s what we’ve always done.

What makes people think he's not capable of playing Premier football? I've never heard of the fella or seen him play but just because he plays in the SPL doesn't mean he's unable.
Personally I like the way they're looking at the squad.

There are always a few well scouted players in lower leagues ready to slot right in. Dele Alli for example. Usually it’s well known how good they are.
