https://twitter.com/talkreading/status/1392108750702579721?s=21 Mike McGrath from the Telegraph has reported that we are one of three PL sides monitoring Reading forward Yakou Meite, who could be available for around £5m. He has a very good goal record for a winger (28 Championship goals from 70 appearances across the last two seasons) and can play across the front line, although he’s played mainly on the right this season.
He's kind of decent. I particularly like him for lashing wide against us in our 2-0 win their this season. Excellent work. Meit 'e be worth a punt for £5m?
Decent enough footballer, but another that is well within the depth category rather than the starting category. Would have made sense if we were not promoted but makes little sense if we are. The fact that he is a striker Brighton are linked to should be warning enough.
I reckon we’ll see a lot of “Watford, Crystal Palace and Brighton are monitoring Striker X” this summer.
Don't forget Wolves - journalists seem to get pretty confused that there is more than two clubs that start with a W.
Genuine question: how has he only made 19 starts and 6 sub appearances this season? Transfermarkt only has him down as missing 1 month through injury. Turns out he actually has the best open-play goals scored per game ratio in the entire Championship for the season out of players who've played more than 1000 minutes. He has 1 goal every 141 minutes.. 2nd is Dike on 1 goal every 143 minutes. Armstrong 4th on 1 goal every 151 minutes. Pukki 7th on 1 goal every 164 minutes. Danjuma 8th on 1 goal every 167 minutes. Toney 9th on 1 goal every 176 minutes. This is despite the fact he's made most of his appearances as a right-winger. He has made just a few starts as a CF. Reading fans seem to acknowledge he's a good goalscorer, but say that his crossing and passing isn't that good for a winger (only 1 assist this season!), while his hold-up play isn't that good for a striker. He's good in the air though. For around £5mil he could be a useful bench option in that he seems capable of providing cover as both CF and RW, but he's unlikely to be a starter anywhere. We'd also best hope he doesn't suddenly get called up by Ivory Coast if he does sign to be Sarr's back-up (he seems a bit too far down the pecking order currently at least). Some Reading fan comments: "Difficult one - certainly a player tailored to a particular style Don't think his attributes are suited as a striker, particularly a lone striker, his work with his back to goal leaves a lot to be desired - for a guy of his stature, he goes too ground too easily Playing off the right though, he's a handful for any defence and his scoring rate (with the exception of his first few months) has been consistently exceptional. He's also got a great work ethic and seems a very good character for the dressing room Think he'd do well at Palace - not so sure about Watford or Brighton - although would be preferable to keep him as our most effective spell came with him in the side" "I like him, but he's not a Premier League striker ..." "I hope that this doesn't come to fruition.... Yak always seems to play with a lot of passion. Good intensity, causes problems for defenders and has popped up with some great goals" "I have never understood Yaks. A target man style inside forward with a ridiculous knack for scoring goals. Life and soul of the dressing room. I'd sell him if I was the manager and regret it from that day onwards" "Real issue is lack of natural width in the team. Meite would feed off decent crosses. Too many of the squad naturally want to play in the centre rather than out wide." "Yep I agree with that. Play Yaks as a centre forward. He is good in the air but we have no one to put in decent crosses from out wide." https://hobnob.royals.org/forum/vie...sid=c1c44d416f0755c4bee90ca883637506#p5110003 https://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=188507&p=5108793&hilit=meite#p5108793
On 4 July 2020, he scored four goals in a 5–0 win away at the Scum. Just for this it's a massive yes and is already a legend in my eyes. Seems like a right decent fella who works his socks off. Cant knock his stats either.
"Palace, Brighton and Watford are monitoring..." - no need to read any further, that means "this is a made up story..."
Yeah - Ejaria is an unbelievable dribbler of the ball but doesn't do anywhere enough in the areas that count really. Would have been a decent enough signing in the championship for us, but don't see he would be anywhere near good enough for the PL at the moment. Olise on the other hand looks like he is already good enough
Both have played a lot of football off the left. In fact Meite has played more on the left than right
Not for Reading (for whom he has made the bulk of his senior appearances)... According to Transfermarkt, in the last three seasons, Meite has played 45 games on the right, 42 in the centre and 15 on the left.
Depends on what you want in your team though, wingers aren’t set on a side. Sarr was used a fair bit on the left at Rennes, plays mostly on the right for us. If the link is true with Meite, he’d becoming in to compete with Sema
Sure. I’m sure he could play up front or on the left. But you claimed that he’s played more on the left than on the right and that doesn’t seem correct.
Is that per Wyscout? Transfermarkt says otherwise (15 times on the left for Reading and 45 times on the right) and he’s been almost exclusively deployed on the right this season (with a couple of appearances up top). Every time I’ve watched him he’s played on the right as quite a bulky inside forward. Obviously we could definitely use him as a more conventional winger - as we do Sarr - but that sort of undermines his primary strength which is his goal threat.
