You're spot on... That will be an unpopular opinion!! Seriously though, even if you think he should be sold, the club have failed to protect his transfer value by letting his contract run down to the final year. It will be shame to lose yet another player (circa Capoue, Deulofeu etc) for only a fraction of what they should be worth under better circumstances.
Been disappointing since he's come back, but Jesus, it would be nice to see him in the middle rather than out wide...
We bought all those players you mention for a fraction of what they were worth. Agree though he should have had an extension sorted out 12 months ago.
What's Hughes contributed in his time here? He was also an integral part of a similarly gutless Derby team that couldn't get promoted.
You obviously have an irrational downer on Hughes. Which 5 current outfield players would you keep at the club in preference to him?
There's nothing irrational about me not seeing the value of keeping a player who has spent the majority of his career playing for underperforming teams. He's a good player Hughes but he is dispensable. We need to clear out this team of f**king weaklings and start again. It's the only way (bar a playoff miracle) that this club can bounce back.
I would have thought Hughes would be one to keep as he is mid 20s, probably not a high earner and a good footballer if fit and played in the right position.
I dont think we play to Hughes strengths ..... he has barely played centre mid since being here - always deployed in other positions to plug gaps. I think he should be our first choice CM with either Clevs or Chalobah along side him...... I would be more inclined to sell Chalobah and Clevs than Hughes. Unfortunately Chalobah has never been the same since his horrific knee injury and Clevs is just a very average midfielder now
Probably discussed in various places on the forum, but just checking Deeney’s contract situation. Says on opening thread it ends 2022, but there was a BBC article the other day about the best free agents to pick up in the summer and Troy was one of them (well he was one of the ‘also free’ players).
All contracts have been updated on the first page. Below are those with their contracts expiring in the summer.
Don't think many will be kept on! The keepers I'd imagine will, along with a couple of the defenders and few midfielders.
This is from the start of the season. How reliable do you think this is? We know about the top 2 but Sarr on 70k seems unlikely and it’s a big gap to the rest . https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/watford/?fbclid=IwAR0-XCw6jVgrvVntQeQFUakfjQsPnuK-nnNmM1PP3WoQPuNCd5gtFq9alYY
I wouldn’t have thought Sarr would be on that much, but that’s nothing more than a guess. The rest look to be in the right ball park.
Yes that is probably just a guess. He wouldn’t get 70k at a top club yet potentially. Mind you if we can give Andre Gray that much .
Troy signed a 5 year deal 5 years ago. An extension has never been announced. Maybe Gino and Scott are looking for an excuse for keeping him that makes them look less incompetent/insane.
In serbian media it is suggested that Filip Stuparevic will become a free agent after Watford didn't give him his salary in the last 9 months. Apparently he is going to sue Watford. He is set to join Partizan Belgrade as a free agent. What a terrible piece of business from Watford. What was the point in signing him in the first place?
Really? Why would we not pay someone unless there was a deal where the club he was at were expected to.. Or is this typical Pozzo treatment because we do sign a lot of young players then never actually seem interested in every having them at the club?
Mozzartsport who is usually pretty reliable reported it. It seems weird that they wouldn't pay him as I don't think he was on high wages... If it is true what a dumb way to loose money and what a waste of money has he been.
9 months and he only mentions it now. Maybe more to this than meets the eye or he's just upset that Watford have told him he doesn't have a future. Pozzo has made mistakes but if he has a contract we wouldn't have a leg to stand on so this seems very unlikely to be true
According to the article, there is an ongoing legal case that started in June 2020. Not sure if it is true, but mozzartsport is really reliable, so I think that at least the suit part of the story is right. I just don't get why Watford signed him. He was always average. Even in Serbia.
