94 is the average for first place, I’d say we’d be 90% likely to get promotion with 90 points (given that only one team hasn't with that number) which is only 12 more. You’re right in that 16 will certainly do it, but it’s almost certainly not what we’ll need.
90 points will be enough We needed 15 after the international break and we’ve gotten 3 of those so far. 12 more points needed
I meant that promotion would hopefully be done and dusted before the last two games. We need 16 more now, but this time next week we might only need 8 (assuming we beat boro and Reading and both Brentford and Swansea drop points in one of their next two matches)
But that’s on the basis Brentford win all their games, and as one of their games is against us that means we would have to win every other game aside from one which we’d have to draw to get 16 points. Neither Brentford winning all their games from here and us finishing W5, D1, L1 are at all likely.
I read somewhere 85 points is the average to get automatic promotion. If that’s correct we are a lot further down that road than the other teams in the pack behind Norwich. West Ham once got relegated with 42 points, similarly not getting automatic with 90 was a one off. My guess is that 87 will be plenty, and 84 will be enough
I agree-ish, I think 10 more will be enough. That means Swansea and Brentford would both have to get 19 more points from 24 available to equal that. On their respective form, I can't see them achieving that.
To be honest, we are as much as likely to go on a bad run, as either Brentford or Swansea are as likely to go on a good enough run!
I think the run in for all the top 7 is looking like a real ding dong, with all sorts of strange results going on. This season there are 16 battling teams with nothing much between them, then a top 4 with more "quality" on the ball. I refuse to get over confident at this moment but with the pressure heaping on I can see the top 4 struggling to maintain best form. With my honest hat on I am expecting 3 wins and between 2 and 4 draws in the remaining games, so I have us finishing on around 90 points.... (very happy as usual if the team ram that down my throat.!!!!)
It is certainly going to be interesting, every game means so much more when you have something to play for, the only thing I would say is the momentum is with us we have been winning games, not drawing, not losing, so I see us to continue going all out to win, until it is mathematically impossible for us to not be promoted, then we will possibly see some strange results, whether we need just 3, 4, or 5 wins because of the current run I don’t see us falling apart now!
Win on Friday and we are pretty much there. Brentford and Swansea are in poor form, and can’t see them winning more than 4 games
Just as we accept the most probable outcome is we WILL be promoted, I think we have to accept it wont be as Champions.
We aren't catching Norwich ffs. Who cares anyway? Winning the second division means very little. It's all about the promotion.
Irrespective of our own form, there is no logical reason why Norwich would drop to a level of form significantly lower than their worst 6 game period this season, which is still pretty good.
I think as we’ve not been genuinely in the title race it’s not much of a fuss this season. But the Championship title would be the biggest trophy in our history and so I’d personally not write it off as meaning very little.
Well, we aren't winning it, so it's not worth concerning ourselves with! Norwich are far too consistent for us to make up 8 points in 6 games.
Promotion is 99% the prize, we only care about it because of what happened last time. Nobody else remembers about it or cares about it, you either get promoted or you don’t. I can pretty much guarantee that if we were in Norwich’s position, once mathematically promoted our players would relax and barely care what happened after that. No doubt they’d like to win the league, but if they didn’t they wouldn’t give a ****.
The way Swansea and Brentford are choking I don't think it now really matters how many points we end up with. If we'd stayed within 6 of Norwich it might have given us an outside chance at the title, but think that horse ship sailed bolted on Saturday.
Can’t wait to see our boys lift the trophy at the end of the season! Norwich’s downfall is right around the corner. They will lose to Bmuff, we will beat them. They will then bottle it in their last three games against QPR, Reading and Barnsley. If I knew the companies name who inscribes the trophy, I would tell them to start putting our name on it. Of course if we lose or draw to Reading, then I won’t feel like this anymore. Beat Reading, and we go on to win the league.
Basically need to be 7 points ahead of Brentford when we play them and its over even if they beat us. Can we do that?
As it stands if Brentford equal our results in the next four games and they then win their game in hand on the Tuesday before we meet, we will be 6 ahead. As long as we keep winning the harder it will be for them to keep up.
Just did one of those predictors and I had: 1. Norwich - 97 2. Watford - 90 3. Brentford - 84 I'm always right so that's how it's going to finish. Fact.
I think we were so keen to be champions last time so we could finish above Muff & all their obvious cynical antics. Coupled with the 2-0 defeat at their place due to Nobert's ridiculous reffing. Not only the 1st minute ludicrous red card, but also not giving us a penalty when a goalbound shot was clearly stopped by a Muff arm when it was still 0-0. We have no real negative feelings towards Norwich.
Not winning the league last time was awful because we lost it in stoppage time on the final day + we lost out to a horrible side who cheated their way to promotion Neither is applicable this time, 2nd place will do nicely
Time to wheel out this thread from a month ago: With 2 games to go we are on 88 points which is joint 4th best points tally so far. Hopefully we can get 4-6 more points to reach our second best total (or best when you ignore the 2 points for a win in 78).
Second is fine by me. In all honesty I would be giving the cannon fodder an opportunity to prove themselves to us or to future buyers. Let Sarr, Sema, Pedro, Hughes, Nate, FS put their feet up and see what the others are capable of.
