New European Super League

I think if the clubs that want to join the Super League also want to stay in their domestic leagues and all other football competitions such as cups etc. they will probably have to run two separate teams, and the players would not be able cross between them .unless they are formally transferred.

E.G. You would have something like Liverpool Domestic and Liverpool Europe. If they did that this idea might just work?

I agree that this subject should be a separate thread.

I hope that these clubs simply uproot and play their matches in China and let all the other clubs in Europe quietly get on with our own leagues as we have done since the 19th century.

I agree @The Voice of Reason. I said as much this morning on one of the other threads. It would probably need different managers too. No way a club competing in the Super League would accept a loss there because Pep or Klopp were distracting preparing for Wigan away in the FA Cup three days later.

Return all European completions to straight knock out cups.

Isn't it the same as preparing for a Champions League tie sandwiched between an FA Cup 4th round away at a League One side? They'll play their strong 11 against Real Madrid and play their kids against Wigan.

Maybe we could be on their radar for purchase to be 'Liverpool South'? Personally, I'd prefer to be 'Arsenal North' in line with most of our fans already.

No. They'd still have more TV money coming in to unbalance the domestic league. They could swap funds around in a Udinese-Watford way, but with more of it.

Exactly, so what's the point in them still being in the domestic completions if they are not playing their first team.

Throw them out and let them enjoy their ESL

Oh yes UEA they should have different managers etc. and the players who are in the European team will have to accept that is the only football they will be able play and that should include NOT being able to play for their countries.

If the players want the financial gain they will have to accept the footballing pain.

That's the solution, yup. But then given the number of SL games proposed and way its apparently structured, these sorts of conflicts are going to arise 20 times a season rather than now where it happens genuinely maybe once or twice in Feb/March for a team competing in three or four competitions. And sometimes it'll be Wigan away in the cup, and their fans won't care, but I guess other times it'll be the Merseyside derby that could be seen as the one to put the kids into.

This would be a competition for telly-watchers. Fans of the big London clubs who enjoy a day out in Birmingham, Leicester or Southampton for an away match won't be able to afford regular trips to Madrid or Milan, and with few away fans there will be the lack of atmosphere which players are already complaining about.

The football authorities should play hardball and deny these clubs entry into the domestic leagues. Ideally, players who play in unapproved competitions would get a life ban, as happened when English players went to Columbia in 1950, but I guess that would be ruled out as a restraint of trade now. Even without that, exclusion from international football would be a disincentive for some.

Well I think I heard on Sky or somewhere else that the plan is for the football pyramid to gain financially from it as well, and if that is the case I can see UEFA/FIFA/The FA and all the clubs coming round to the idea :D

Ah yes, the bribe on similar terms to EPPP, which loosely translates as "Let us do our thing, we'll throw you a bone.", once the bone is consumed then what?

See Mourinho has been sacked for refusing to take training this morning because of the super league. Fair play to him I say, this ESl is a disgraceful idea

Apparently he punched Levy on the spot and told Ryan Mason he was a 'sellout backstabbing fu*kstick'. Harry Kane was seen crying. Gareth Bale nearly missed his tee time. It's been a wild morning at the Spurs.

Joel Glazer is one of the main driving forces behind the European Super League. The Glazers borrowed huge sums of money to buy Manchester Utd. and then dumped the debt on the club. Does anyone seriously believe that they really care about financially helping the football pyramid? Can they be trusted?

The reason that the German clubs have not committed to the ESL is because of the 50+1 rule in the Bundesliga. Commercial investors are not allowed to own more than a 49% stake in a Bundesliga club so that "private investors cannot take over clubs and potentially push through measures that prioritize profit over the wishes of supporters."

Depends on how water-tight the clauses in the constitutions of FIFA/UEFA/FA are. If clubs have effectively accepted by being members that such membership can only continue if they only play in authorised competitions, then it may not be restraint of trade as they can still compete in their own little club from which they are excluding others from joining. That would be an interesting paradox for them to argue their way out of in court.

Not a fan of Jose but if that's true then fair to him. This ESL just sums up football for me currently. I've always loved football but right now if they said there would be no football ever again I couldn't care less

How do Arsenal and Spurs qualify for a 'Super' League?
Let them clear off I say and play in their money-grabbing version of the Inter-Toto Cup. All games will be played in empty stadiums with crowd noise piped over the tannoy and cardboard cut-out fans glued to the seats. Kick-off time will be in the middle of the night to maximise pay-TV audiences in the middle and Far East.
I'm going to start going to watch Wealdstone. or Kings Langley every week. A few quid to get in, drink a beer while watching, dogs allowed in, everyone's pro-Brexit... magic

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have said they and German rivals Bayern Munich both rejected proposals to form a breakaway league.

In a statement on Monday, Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said that the members of the European Club Association (ECA) had met on Sunday evening and expressed "a clear opinion to reject the foundation of a Super League".

He added that the two German clubs on the ECA board, Bayern and Dortmund, had taken "100 percent" the same position "in all discussions".

I think that the reason that the German clubs have not signed up to the ESL because of their 50+1 rule. "Under German Football League [DFL] rules, football clubs will not be allowed to play in the Bundesliga if commercial investors have more than a 49 percent stake. In essence, this means that private investors cannot take over clubs and potentially push through measures that prioritise profit over the wishes of supporters." (Bundesliga website)

Apologies that I am repeating myself because I have already raised this point in an earlier post on this thread.

There are spots reserved for the German clubs, I’m trying to imagine what would make the fans bend and change their minds to allow it to happen? Perhaps nothing in which case it surely makes it unworkable?

Well, it makes it not a 'super league', certainly - clearly anything purporting to be that has at least to include Bayern.

But then you could argue that the inclusion of Arsenal and Spurs already warrants a reference under the Trades Description Act.
