To add, in terms of this, I have read more than one Griffin Park Grapevine poster suggest that a fate of missing out on automatics was directly sealed by their own January window, given the players they did/did not sign and the state it left the squad in.

I did mean the three of the best players in their position in the league, of which there are somewhere between 11 and 15 (since some positions are arguable).

Henry is head and shoulders above every other LB in the league. Toney is too. Dasilva is arguable, but I’m not sure he is more arguable than Hughes if you take the golden-tinted glasses off.

I said that I think our squad is roughly on par with theirs. I said in an earlier post that one could that even Brentford probably have a better squad than ours. It’s arguable although I think you argue quite well that they do not.

Still, it is quite irrelevant to the original claim re Munoz which is that his unprecedentedly impressive PPG record can not be simply getting par for the course from a great squad as we do not have the best squad in the league currently or of all time. And that ergo any Championship side would be lucky to have him should he not be hear next season as seems likely.

I wouldn't swap anyone for Femenia this season, he has such an innate relationship with Sarr that we wouldn't get with another player of a similar quality. Ngakia has a higher ceiling, but we'll deal with that next season, whatever division we're in

Definitely time to kick this thread back into life.

It literally doesn’t matter what happens between now and the last game of the season. He’s got to go.

It seems that when he asked the squad for 1% more effort for this game they didn’t hear the word ‘more’.

We've been well and truly worked out by teams and Xisco hasn't got a clue what to do about it. Unless Sarr turns up like he did against Reading I can see us dropping points in every game now.

I predict he's got a maximum of 7 games before the end of his Watford career.

He's a good friend to the players, he let them do what they want, and due to the fact it was completely the opposite to Ivic, that resulted in the players having a sense of freedom and going for it. Now that initial fun is over and he has to actually innovate tactically, it's fallen apart.

He stumbled across 4-3-3 cos Deeney got injured. He stumbled across Zinc at CM cos Clevs got injured.

Does he think Success is a better option off the bench than Gray or Perica?

I'll give him props for trying to get Hungbo involved though.

Thanks Xisco, I don't dislike you like some of your predecessors, I just feel a bit sorry for you.

His big error today was not realising what a derby in the Championship would be like in terms of style of play. It’s not like anything he’d have experienced in Spain and I just don’t think he was prepared for the helter-skelter nature of it all. Losing Chalobah was a big blow for this one, but to try to take on a motivated scum team with a midfield of Hughes, Sanchez and Zinc was plain idiocy. Needed to have Clevs or Gosling in there from the start.

The Kids biggest attribute has been creating a feel good factor in the team, but all along his tactical nous has been questionable IMO. The team and formation has virtually picked itself since Deeney got injured, and all The Kid has had to is keep the feel good factor going, which to be fair is his main attribute.

However we have not played well since the international break because some players have clearly been losing a bit of form and others have been injured, however The Kid does not seem to have clue what to do about it and today really brought home his tactical inadequacies IMO.

We really must get back on track on Tuesday or I think we might not only miss out on automatic promotion but promotion all together.

Watford fans who were happy to cheer all our wins under Xisco that took us from 5th to 9 points clear in second place now queuing up to trash him after a (admittedly rubbish) defeat to a team that aren’t Brentford or Swansea so there isn’t a 6 point swing in the promotion race shock horror.

Judge Xisco when the season is done and dusted.

If we don’t go up, he deserves heavy criticism. Of course he does.

But don’t forget it was under stewardship that we’ve put ourselves in a position where blowing promotion becomes a slight possibility.

We could be sitting 5th or 6th now, or even outside the play-offs.

  15. It’s been obvious the side needed a refresh since the break, today was the wrong midfield again. A game like today did not need zinc. Not good enough from disco.

Much has been made of this elsewhere in other threads, we don’t have a premier league squad but we certainly have one good enough to get promoted from the championship. Norwich are proof of this, for the second season in a row they’re getting promoted on 90+ points but only got 21 in the premier league. The difference between a 90+ point championship team and a 37+ point premier league team is the £100m prize money if you spend it all, but there is a huge gap in the middle in which we sit.

Munoz has a a squad good enough for promotion, after ivic all he had to do was point them in the right direction. The quality we have for the championship in a lot of cases is enough to overwhelm teams who simply don’t have players that will hurt you in every single game. A good example I think is Birmingham, I genuinely do not think we played at all well, but we’ve got the players to put the ball away and we win comfortably.

When we come up against a team who have figured out how to stop us Munoz is clueless, he simply does not know what to do.

He would be an absolute disaster in the premier league, when you have to think about what threat the opposition will pose in every game you play amd adapt accordingly.

He had no concept of what an EFL derby game would be like. He didn’t realize players like Zinc would be totally submerged in the hurly-burly brutality of it all.

If we drop into the playoffs I could genuinely see Gino sacking him and bringing someone else in.

We seem to hit new, seemingly implausible levels of farce when it comes to managers every season, so I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if it happened.

F$$k me...this bloke has taken us to the edge of promotion. Not a scenario I would ever have seen anybody do last Xmas.

whether he’s right or not for the Prem is a question in 4 games time but at the moment I think he’s great

Sometimes in games you need to change formation to get the upper hand, they had an extra man in midfield who all wanted it more he didn't do anything about it ,we could of played all day today we were poor we would get battered in premier league with him he has no plan b during games ,and still plays the goalkeeper with concrete i

This chap seems to know the score.

We are second despite this out of his depth weapon, not because of him.

Any manager with a shred of managerial nous would have romped this league.

Thanks pozzo you useless ****. Where's the ***** Italian managers??

I feel it's all on the line with Gino. We go up then all is forgiven. We screw this up, then he's in for a bumpy ride.

He progressed the club, there's no doubt about it, and is now the victim of his own success and fans may have become a little bit spoilt. However, last season's relegation was inexplicable. The decisions unfathomable in stupidity over the past two years.

No way that side should have gone down and no way should this team fail to gain promotion. We did go down though and so far making it a lot harder to gain promotion than should be the case. I believe Pozzo ignored glaring defensive deficiencies last season and trimmed the squad back too far this. If we don't go up, it's all on Pozzo and the debt he would have levied on us will put us in a far worse position than we were before he took us over.

If we don't go up this season, we're in for a very bleak future, IMO.

As much as Xisco is a genuinely lovely, wonderful, fantastic bloke - what happens when we get promoted and we lose our first five games?

Thankfully, we are staying in the championship for another year. **** knows who's gonna manage us.

Yes we have progressed. At the cost of huge debt. I think we will go up and get the chance for reset even if we have to do a Norwich.

What is clear though is Xisco has done brilliantly. Before he came in we thought we might miss the playoffs.

When we likely do go up it will be interesting to see if Pozzo is frugal with the finances this time.

I also agree that if we don’t go up we are in for a very poor future due to our debt.
